Top-cited articles reflect high impact of JMTP across many disciplines, not just marketing
It is with pleasure that we introduce the Top 20 cited articles in the last decade of Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice (JMTP), and announce their free availability to the viewing public. With this special issue, we celebrate the wide-ranging impact and influence of one of marketing’s younger journals, with JMTP a spritely 24 years old. In terms of overall impact factors, taken from 2014 figures on Scopus, JMTP (1.467) ranks fourth among the broad-scope marketing journals. Ahead of JMTP are Journal of Marketing (7.332), Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science (3.769) and International Journal of Research in Marketing (2.434), while Journal of Business Research (1.183) and European Journal of Marketing (0.940) are just below
Rewriting history : postmodern and postcolonial negotiations in the fiction of J.G. Farrell, Timothy Mo, Kazuo Ishiguro and Salman Rushdie
This thesis is a study of the rewriting of history in the work of four novelists: J. G. Farrell, Timothy Mo, Kazuo Ishiguro and Salman Rushdie. I argue that their work occupies a particular position that is both within contemporary British fiction, yet at one remove from it.
Their work is situated within the context of critiques of history that are the source of a conflict between postmodernism and postcolonialism. I suggest that each writer engages with postmodemist aesthetics often in an attempt to produce critical histones that bear witness to the voices of those hitherto silenced in conventional historiography. However, these novelists remain anxious as to the potential consequences of mobilising postmodernist models of history, particularly as to the problems this creates concerning historical reference. The thesis aims to
identify the range of related attitudes to postmodernist critiques of history at this particular juncture of contemporary fiction in English.
I approach the specific position of the novelists under study through Homi Bhabha's work on the confluence of the postmodern and the postcolonial, focusing in particular on his suggestion that the postmodem refutation of Western epistemology enables a postcolonial space where a new range of histories emerge. Because each writer works between at least two cultures, and primarily within Britain, they negotiate from within received epistemology in an attempt to locate a space at its boundaries where conventional forms of knowledge no longer have efficacy. However, in contrast to Bhabha, these writers struggle to reach this space and remain sceptical as to the usefulness of postmodernism in making available new forms of
historiography. Ultimately, their work enables a critique of current ways of theorising the relationship between the postmodem and the postcolonial in literary studies
Hemingway: for whom the bell rarely tolls In college curricula
This capstone discusses the possible reasons for the virtual absence of any college class curricula devoted to or including the works of Ernest Hemmingway. Hemingway was the recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, a Nobel laureate in Literature, and an author whose writing talent in his early years garnered the praise and literary master recognition of other iconic literary figures of his time like Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein, James Joyce, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Sherwood Anderson. This capstone will examine the Hemingway legacy both in his perceived hedonistic lifestyle and misogynic labeled writings and formulate an argument that might explain why, despite recent decades of critical reviews revising the negative myths of his legends and literature, the study of Hemingway‟s art is rarely found in the majority of college curricula.M.A.L.S.Includes bibliographical referencesby Michael Mullane
Mixing of the Seneca and Blue Lake waste water treatment plant effluents with the Minnesota River
Eight field surveys, forty five laboratory experiments, and several types of analyses have produced information to understand and predict the mixing of the Seneca and Blue Lake WWTP effluents with the Minnesota River to a reasonable degree. Both discharges are from submerged pipes, 7 ft and 6.5 ft in diameter, respectively. The mean annual discharge rates are at present on the order of 23 to 25 cfs and at velocities on the order of .6 to .8 fps.METROPOLITAN WASTE CONTROL COMMISSION
