The performance and application of cross flow fans for automotive engine cooling systems
No full textThe work reported centres on the application of cross flow fan units to provide forced air flow over the radiator used for engine cooling. It is shown that a cooling system in which the airflow is ducted through the vehicle would lead to a significant reduction in vehicle drag. A ducted system allows more exact prediction of performance, and can be more easily designed in conjunction with across flow fan, that has rectangular inlet and outlet sections, and an ability to form 'S', 'L' and 'U' airflow geometries. This shape advantage of the cross flow fan also allows the use of radiators with a higher aspect ratio that could in turn permit lower bonnet lines on vehicles with a further reduction in aerodynamic drag. At higher vehicle speeds adequate cooling is usually provided by ram airflow through the cooling system. An airflow by-pass arrangement controlled by a balance valve has been devised and tested. The operation of this valve was found to be stable and smooth, and extremely beneficial in reducing the total system resistance and increasing fan performance under ram airflow conditions. A computer model has been developed and a programme produced to facilitate matching of the air circuit, fan and motor. Examples illustrate the use of this in the design of a system for a 1,6 litre passenger vehicle, with maximum b.h.p. in second gear being taken as the most critical engine condition for cooling performance

―Analisis Strategi Social Media PT XL Axiata Tbk Dalam Meningkatkan Jumlah
Fans Pada Fan Page Facebook ―XL Rame‖ (Studi Kasus Photo Xploration Periode
Juli–Agustus 2013). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apa dan
bagaimana strategi social media yang dijalankan oleh PT XL Axiata Tbk dalam
mencapai tujuannya meningkatkan jumlah fans pada Fan Page Facebook XL Rame.
Aplikasi Photo Xploration sendiri dibuat dengan latar belakang bahwa kecintaan
terhadap fotografi dan meng-edit foto tengah mendapatkan sambutan hangat dari
masyarakat Indonesia. Konsep dari Photo Xploration ini pun sederhana, yakni
berusaha memenuhi keinginan dari khalayak di social media dengan menyediakan
sebuah aplikasi yang dapat memberikan ucapan pada hari-hari istimewa dengan
menyertakan foto pribadi yang juga dapat ditambahkan ornamen-ornamen khusus
sebagai penghias. Berbekal hal tersebut, maka diadakanlah perlombaan foto dengan
menggunakan aplikasi Photo Xploration ini.
Melalui pendekatan kualitatif, penelitian ini menjabarkan bahwa perlombaan dengan
mengunakan aplikasi Photo Xploration dijalankan melalui strategi social media dari
Breakenridge, The Social Media Strategy Wheel, yang meliputi Tracking and
Monitroring Strategy, Distribution Strategy, Content Strategy, Engagement Strategy,
dan Measurement Strategy.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi social media yang dijalankan
memperoleh peningkatan jumlah fans sesuai dengan KPI yang telah ditetapkan yakni
sepuluh persen dari jumlah fans pada saat itu. Sebanyak 228.808 fans baru berhasil
diperoleh dari perlombaan yang menggunakan aplikasi Photo Xploration tersebut
yaitu perlombaan Bagi-Bagi Maaf Ramadhan bulan Juli 2013 dan Bebas Merdeka
bulan Agustus 2013

Does Internet and computer 'addiction' exist? Some case study evidence
No full textIt has been alleged that social pathologies are beginning to surface in cyberspace (i.e., technological addictions). To date, there is very little empirical evidence that computing activities (i.e., internet use, hacking, programming) are addictive. Anecdotal evidence indicates that the typical “addict” is a teenager, usually male, with little or no social life, and little or no self-confidence. This article concentrates on five case studies of excessive computer usage. It is argued that of the five cases, only two of them describe “addicted” subjects. Addiction components criteria were used in the assessment. The excessive usage in the majority of cases was purely symptomatic and was highlighted how the subjects used the Internet/computer to counteract other deficiencies
The tumble mode - where test pilots fear to tread
No full textFollowing a fatal accident in 1997 and identification of common patterns in several (usually fatal) previous accidents the AAIB (United Kingdom Air Accidents Investigation Branch) asked the BMAA (British Microlight Aircraft Association) to pursue a course of investigation into the tumble mode, which had been attributed as the primary cause of that fatal accident.
The tumble mode is a peculiarity of weightshift controlled aircraft - that is flexwing microlights and hang-gliders. It is a departure from controlled flight leading to a nose-down pitch autorotation: pitch rates of 400°/s are known. When a tumble occurs in a microlight aeroplane, it is rare for the crew to survive and loss of the aircraft is universal
