No full textIl saggio scritto da Giuseppe Fallacara mira alla costruzione di una possibile e auspicabile più ampia storia sulla nascita ed evoluzione della “scuola barese” di architettura, ove per “baresità” si intende la specificità dell’identità degli studi della Facoltà di Architettura di Bari, voluta dal suo fondatore Claudio D’Amato Guerrieri, giunta al suo trentesimo anniversario: dal 1990 ad oggi. Per “dal basso” si deve intendere una molteplicità di significati, primo fra tutti il fatto che questa storia è scritta da un allievo di D’Amato, e quindi allievo della “scuola barese”, che dal basso della gerarchia accademica, ovvero da studente, ha vissuto tutti i trent’anni dai banchi di scuola sino all’ottenimento della cattedra da Professore Ordinario di Composizione Architettonica, avvenuta il primo di aprile del 2020. Dal basso indica anche geograficamente il luogo della pietra, di quella materia prima amata e studiata, costantemente e intensamente, al fianco di D’Amato. Pietra o cultura della pietra che hanno caratterizzato fortemente l’indirizzo formativo della “scuola barese” a cui tutto metaforicamente poteva riferirsi: dalla sua “durezza” alla “naturale” dolcezza dei suoi frutti. Dal basso indica infine, in termini nazionali, il nostro Sud, luogo della nostra facoltà, terra della koinè culturale mediterranea, dai caratteri e storia appartenenti a quel posto della Terra dove e identificabile la culla della sua cultura

No full textLe bâtiment de Fallacara proclame clairement sa volonté de se rattacher la grande architecture historique du passé, sans renoncer pour autant à la modernité des techniques et des formes. Il cherche, néanmoins, à renouer avec la tradition, certain que la grande architecture de l'Antiquité demeure une source inépuisable d'inspiration pouvant générer une architecture moderne, dont le lien avec le passé lui permet de s'élever au-dessus de la routine et de la banalité que nous montre souvent l'architecture contemporaine. La SNBR, une des sociétés pionnières dans le domaine de la restauration en France, a su comprendre l'architecture de Giuseppe Fallacara et sa signification profonde. Son engagement dans le domaine de la pierre et du milieu où l'on travaille ce matériau, l'a amenée à devenir une entreprise pionnière dans l'adoption des technologies les plus modernes pour le traitement et la taille de ce matériau. A la SNBR, on est conscients de ce que, tant dans l'architecture contemporaine que dans la restauration, l'avenir de la pierre et de tout un métier séculaire est lié à l'adoption des technologies les plus modernes. Ce bâtiment, siège de la société, résume très clairement les idées exposées ci-dessus. Architectural stone elements : research, design and fabrication
No full textThe examples in this book however let us project beyond those standard practices and common processes, and make the argument that there is a generation of younger architects that not only fully understand the potential of digital fabrication, but attempt to go deeper into the question of materiality, inscribing new forms into stone thus penetrating material with profound thought. ... Successively, the merit of each design lies in the ingenuity to develop a customized methodology, which joins cut stone blocks in an additive way such that the assembly of individual unit increases the overall structural stability by exploiting material strength through compression, typically known as stereotomic aggregates. ... It is in this respect that the designer Giuseppe Fallacara succeeds to devise methods that permit him to investigate a trajectory with each project, installation or prototype, and which open up new avenues in design by bringing stone to the edge of performance failure and exploit deliberately many current technologies. The projects are therefore also a great didactic example of advanced methods in architectural design with stone, which again shows the larger picture of architecture that is in continuous evolution enriched by the new means of digitization but more than ever affords a life-long apprenticeship instilled by passion

The students were given a brief for a new museum and multipurpose centre in Matera, Italy, which was recently nominated European Capital of Culture 2019. They had to deliver a design proposal, a rapid prototyped model and a short video
