Infernal retainers: Dante and the juridical tradition
This dissertation examines the doctrinal relationship between Dante and contemporary legal scholars, particularly Cino da Pistoia. The study positions Dante's work within ongoing debates between French (Orleanese) and Italian (Bolognese) jurists at the turn of the fourteenth century, arguing that Dante's representations of positive law and its practitioners arise out of his longstanding engagement with the Justinian Corpus.Ph.D.Includes abstractVitaIncludes bibliographical referencesby Loren Michael Valterz
Aligning footprint mitigation activities with relevant stakeholders.
Corporate footprints are growing in complexity and becoming more difficult to fully mitigate. We propose a framework for managing the unmitigated portions of corporate footprints, which distinguishes four types of mitigation activities. The assumptions underlying this framework include a) all companies should work to optimize the mitigation of its footprints, b) footprints cannot be fully mitigated by satisfying any one set of stakeholder expectations, c) effective stakeholder relationships consume organizational resources, d) appropriate relationships with different stakeholders leads to optimal footprint mitigation and e) both broader societal and directly impacted community interests need to be satisfied. After discussing the four types of mitigation activities, we review the stakeholder relationships associated with each of them

An exploration of fiscal sponsorship policy and practice at human service agencies
Bibliography: p. 139-145Some pages are in colour.Fiscal sponsorship is an American term used to describe partnerships between registered charitable organizations and non-registered groups or individuals. A generally accepted practice in the Unites States, it is now emerging in Canada in response to trends in the voluntary sector such as: challenges to the definition of what is charitable, a lengthy registration process, lack of capacity within the sector, and citizen engagement through community development practices. This study explores fiscal sponsorship from two perspectives. Through interviews with fiscal sponsorship practitioners, it provides a description of the practice. The practice is then considered from a legal perspective. The legal interviews provide an understanding of how current policy and guidelines can be interpreted and applied to fiscal sponsorship practice as described by the practitioners. These opposing viewpoints highlight the gaps between policy and practice. This study provides guidelines of practice and policy recommendations to address these gaps
