No full textNella breve riflessione qui proposta ci si concentra su di un testo specifico, la Topographia Hibernica2 di Giraldo Cambrense, e in particolare sulla sua ricostruzione del passato recente dell’Irlanda.La Topographia, opera scritta all’indomani della conquista anglo-normanna dell’Irlanda, oltre a offrire una descrizione fisica e etnografica4 dell’Irlanda ne ricostruisce anche la storia passata e presente. Questa riflessione si propone di confrontare la narrazione di Giraldo in relazione ai suoi rapporti familiari e le relazioni dell’autpore con l’ambiente della corte di Enrico II e con il vescovo di Hereford William de Vere; un confronto che ha come obiettivo quello di leggere la comunicazione politica interna all’opera. L’idea è che la Topographia, espressamente dedicata a Enrico II, ci dica molto più degli interessi di Giraldo che di quelli del re plantageneto. Per i conquistatori dell’Irlanda, di cui la famiglia di Giraldo era parte, era infatti necessario avere l’appoggio regio nel momento in cui i funzionari regi – mandati a controllare, e a fermare, la conquista – inziarono una politica di insediamento ai danni dei primi arrivati. Seguendo la narrazione storica e i temi profetici della Topographia e legandoli alle relazioni e ambizioni di Giraldo – che includevano la posizione della sua famiglia, la corona inglese, i nobili Gallesi e il vescovo di Hereford – si cercherà di leggere quali messaggi potessero essere veicolati da questa prima descrizione dell’Irlanda
A comparative safety review between GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors for diabetes treatment
No full textIntroduction: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) and sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) are of particular interest in type 2 diabetes treatment strategies, due to their efficacy in reducing HbA1c with a low risk of hypoglycaemia, to their positive effects on body weight and blood pressure and in light of their effects on cardiovascular risk and on nephroprotection emerged from the most recent cardiovascular outcome trials.
Since it is therefore very likely that GLP-1RA and SGLT2i use will become more and more common, it is more and more important to gather and discuss information about their safety profile.
Area Covered: adverse events and the safety concerns most often emerged in trials with GLP-1RA namely, exenatide long acting release (LAR), dulaglutide, liraglutide, semaglutide, lixisenatide or SGLT2i, namely empagliflozin, dapagliflozin, canagliflozin and SGLT2i with an attempt at comparing the safety profiles of molecules of these two classes.
Expert opinion: GLP-1RA and SGLT2i, although each associated with different specific side effects, share a 'similar' safety profile and are both drugs relatively easy to handle. The potentially complementary mechanisms of action, the cardio and nephroprotective effects demonstrated by molecules of both classes, make these drugs potentially useful even in add on to each other

Cluster structure of functional networks estimated from high-resolution EGG data
No full text(* the first two authors equally contributed to this paper.) We study the topological properties of functional connectivity patterns among cortical areas in the frequency domain. The cortical networks were estimated from high-resolution EEG recordings in a group of spinal cord injured patients and in a group of healthy subjects, during the preparation of a limb movement. We first evaluate global and local efficiency, as indicators of the structural connectivity respectively at a global and local scale. Then, we use the Markov Clustering method to analyze the division of the network into community structures. The results indicate large differences between the injured patients and the healthy subjects. In particular, the networks of spinal cord injured patient exhibited a higher density of efficient clusters. In the Alpha (7-12Hz) frequency band, the two observed largest communities were mainly composed of the cingulate motor areas with the supplementary motor areas, and of the premotor areas with the right primary motor area of the foot. This functional separation strengthens the hypothesis of a compensative mechanism due to the partial alteration in the primary motor areas because of the effects of the spinal cord injury
