Letter dated 18 June 1969 from the California Institute of Technology to Lorenzo A. Richards
Letter dated 18 June 1969 from professors William A. Fowler, Jesse L. Greenstein, and Gerald J. Wasserburg of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California, to Lorenzo A. Richards at Riverside, California, regarding the Charles C. Lauritsen Memorial Fund and the establishment of a lecture series in Lauritsen\u27s honorC A L I F O R N I A INSTITUTE OF T E C H N O L O GY PASADENA, CALIFORNIA 91109 June 18, 1969 Dr. Lorenzo A. Richards 4455 5th Street Riverside, California 92501 Dear Dr. Richards: It is now one year since the death of Charles C. Lauritsen. During the year, voluntary contributions have established a memorial fund in his name. Sigrid and Tom Lauritsen feel it would be most appropriate if these funds were used to start the endowment of Charles C. Lauritsen Memorial Lectures in Physics at the California Institute of Technology. It is planned that a lecture or series of lectures would be given annually to our students, faculty and the interested public on a subject of current interest by an outstanding American or foreign scientist. The lectures would be primarily but not exclusively devoted to nuclear physics and its applications in astrophysics and geophysics. We hope that the speaker would spend one week or more in informal discussions with graduate students and faculty and, if he so desired, speak before the Astrophysics, Geophysics or Physics Research Conference. This would be in keeping with the old practice under Millikan which brought Lorentz, Einstein, Bohr, Ehrenfest, Kramers, Fermi, Bethe and others to the campus for short visits. It is the purpose of this letter to inform you that tax-deductible contributions designated for the Lauritsen Memorial Fund can be made through the Science for Mankind Development Program now underway. We hope very much that you will contribute to the fund and thus help to establish a fitting memorial for the man we all loved and admired so much. Melanotaenia nigrans Richardson
Melanotaenia nigrans Richardson Blackbanded Rainbowfish Extremely rare within the Kimberley region, Melanotaenia nigrans is only known from one small tributary in Dominic Creek near the mouth of the King Edward River (Fig. 21), and although WAM records suggest it is present in Yampi Sound, recent examination of these specimens by the senior author revealed them to be M. australis. The species is also found in coastal drainages of the Northern Territory, including Groote Eylandt and the northern tip of Cape York (Allen et al. 2002).Published as part of Morgan, David L., Allen, Gerald R., Pusey, Bradley J. & Burrows, Damien W., 2011, 2816, pp. 1-64 in Zootaxa 2816 on page 1
