Learned Helplessness and Mastery Orientation: the contribution of personality traits and academic beliefs

    No full text
The present study examined the contribution of personality traits and academic beliefs (e.g. school self-efficacy, quality of life as a student) that may exert a role in predicting mastery orientation (MO) and learned helplessness (LH). The sample consisted of 196 students (111 males, 85 females) from a middle school (M age = 12.22; SD = .98) in the city of Messina in Sicily, Italy. Results show that the traits of conscientiousness, extraversion, openness to experience, and agreeableness correlate positively with high school self-efficacy, quality of life as a student, and MO, whereas they correlate negatively with LH. The trait of emotional instability correlates positively with LH and negatively with school self-efficacy, quality of life as a student, and MO. In addition, regression analyses showed that personality traits and academic beliefs (in particular, school self-efficacy) play an important role in explaining helpless behavior and mastery-oriented behavior. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed

Danno non patrimoniale e responsabilità civile dei magistrati

Starting from the Constitutional Court’s ruling 205/2022, the author analyzes the civil liability of judges in respects of facts occurring in the performance of their duties. The decision establishes the constitutional illegitimacy of the art. 2 comma 1 of the law 117/1988 because, in its original formulation, the article limited the compensation of non-pecuniary damages to the ones resulting from the privation of personal freedom. Once outlined the fundamental junctures of the motivational process of the Constitutional Court’s ruling and after a brief examination of the reference discipline and case law on gross negligence of judges, the paper critically dwells on non-pecuniary damage and its compensability under article 2059 of the Civil Code

Rafforzare la scrittura con il Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Model (CIRC). Sfide e strategie inclusive

The developmental journey of writing skills in students’ school contexts has often been described by neuroeducational and pedagogical studies as characterized by heterogeneous challenges. Writing represents a complex process that goes beyond graphic transcription, con- figuring itself as an expression of thought and a means of communication involving diverse cognitive and metacognitive processes (Filippello et al., 2009). Its development depends on the simultaneous acquisition of multiple skills (problem solving, working memory, selective atten- tion and planning). Therefore, the difficulties reported by students in learning the mechanisms of writing can be traced to at least two causes: the non-exclusively linguistic nature of cogni- tive processes, ideation and organization of texts, and the fact that-as indicated by the neural recycling hypothesis-the ability to write, along with the ability to read, are relatively recent mental functions from an evolutionary point of view (Dehaene, 2007). In order to synchronously en- hance the different cognitive components involved in writing, a number of instructional models based on cooperative learning (Johnson, 2003), including the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Model (CIRC), have proved effective. This paper aims to investigate, from an inclusive perspective, how CIRC can foster the development of writing skills by modulating its processes

Tra il pensare e il fare in architettura: le arti del disegno e le metodologie BIM nella gestione del cantiere

    No full text
There is, in Architecture, an intellectual responsibility that involves each author-designer about the relationship between time of conception and practical realization; the cycle of construction activities is a crucial stage in this production process. The most advanced procedures of Building Information Modeling (BIM) are an added value not only for the design but also for operations and controls on site during construction. To assess dynamics, opportunities and achievements of representation language supported by BIM technologies we will expose some experiments carried out by the research group who have achieved significant savings in production and adopted important amendments to construction process

This paper covers an area of research that aims to represent on digital maps from Gis system the transformation of construction, the environment, the social evolution in the city of Milan from 2007. These studies where carried out during the project e Mapping from ANCE Milano where the author was coordinator. The purpose of the research was to share data bases collected from the city planning offices of the Municipality of Milano, their processing to give an overall representation of the volumetric dynamism of the city

La mia recensione del volume di Jacob Edmond sottolinea l'attenzione costante dell'Autore verso il superamento dell'opposizione binaria che caratterizza il pensiero occidentale anche nell'analisi del prodotto poetico. My review of Jacob Edmond's volume underlines the continuous attention of the Author towards the possibility of overcoming the binary opposition that characterizes the Western way of analysis also when even taking into consideration a poetic work

Noise accelerates embryonic development in a key crab species: Morphological and physiological carryover effects on early life stages

    No full text
Anthropogenic noise is considered one important global pollutant. The impact of noise on marine invertebrates has been less assessed. The present study evaluated the chronic effect of the motorboat noise obtained from a lagoon´s soundscape, the natural habitat of the key crab Neohelice granulata, on its whole embryonic development, considering morphological and physiological carryover effects on embryos and hatched larvae. Results demonstrated that embryonic development was shortened under noise exposure. The effects on advanced embryos, larvae and adult females were: increased heartbeats and non-viable eggs, and decreased fecundity. Biochemical responses showed lipid peroxidation in embryos while antioxidant enzymes were activated in larvae and adults, indicating a counteracting effect related to the life stage. The negative effects on fitness offspring may imply ecological consequences at the population level. Results are discussed in terms of the ecosystem engineer species studied and the habitat, a MAB UNESCO Reserve lagoon, suggesting the urgent need to develop mitigation plans.Fil: Sal Moyano, María Paz. Gröbner bases and Hilbert schemes. I

Let <σ be a sequential term ordering of the set T of all monomials in the variables x1,…xn.The author studies the family A of all ideals in K[x1,…,xn], that have the reduced Gröbner basis with respect to <σ with the same associated monomial ideal. It is shown that all such ideals have the same dimension and they are parametrized by an affine scheme VA over K. Furthermore if <σ is a degree preserving term ordering on T, then all such ideals have the same Hilbert function. The author also shows that VA is connected and the set of all prime ideals in A and the set of all smooth ideals in A are in one to one correspondence with open subsets of VA. Finally it is shown that if J, J'∈A, then Top (J) and Top(J') can have different associated monomial ideals. Since it is possible to find the Top of the monomial ideal associated with J, then it is possible to decide if this ideal is the same as the monomial ideal associated to Top(J)
