On Maxwell-Lorentz Equations in Dirac’s Symmetrisation and Their Analogs for Gravitation and Space-Time
In further discussion on the Maxwell-Lorentz equations in Dirac’s symmetrisation, I introduce the concept of magnetic monopole as an “act of electric current” in the 2nd equation (i.e. the analog of the “act of movement” in Classical Mechanics), I postulate a “magnetic displacement current” and a “magnetomotive force” in the 3rd and 4th equations, respectively (i.e. the analogs of the “electric displacement current” and of the “electromotive force” in the 4th and 3rd equations, respectively). As a consequence, I propose a generalised vision of the Electromagnetism in which inhomogeneous, microscopic, and relativistically linked equations describe the static and the oscillatory phenomena. Then, in the frame of Relativity, I propose analog microscopic equations to study the Gravitation and the Space-Time in terms of static and oscillatory phenomena: the static equations show the sources of newly defined vector fields (the generalised mass density as the source of the generalised mass field, the generalised time density as the source of the generalised space field, respectively), whereas the oscillatory equations describe the propagation of the gravitational waves and of the spatiotemporal waves, respectively. In other words, I propose to unify Electromagnetism, Gravitation, and Space-Time in terms of microscopic Maxwell-Lorentz-like equations in Dirac’s symmetrisation, where the unifying trait is c. Finally, using the concepts of the proposed generalised Electromagnetism, I discuss the conservation in Electromagnetism and the interaction between matter and electromagnetic waves
The UEMS training charter for pathology: a common trunk and a challenge ahead for the EFCS.
BACKGROUND: Primary aldosteronism is the most frequent cause of secondary hypertension and is responsible for an increased risk of cardiometabolic complications. A concomitant subtle cortisol hyperproduction could enhance cardiovascular risk. We prospectively estimated the occurrence of subclinical hypercortisolism in primary aldosteronism patients.
METHODS: In a large population of hypertensive patients without clinical signs of hypercortisolism, 76 consecutive patients with primary aldosteronism were investigated. Differential diagnosis between unilateral and bilateral aldosterone hypersecretion was made by computed tomography/MRI and/or adrenal venous sampling (AVS). Subclinical hypercortisolism was defined as failure to suppress plasma cortisol to less than 50 nmol/l after 1 mg-overnight dexamethasone, used as screening test, and at least one of two other abnormal hormonal parameters, that is, adrenocorticotrophin (ACTH) less than 2 pmol/l and urinary cortisol more than 694 nmol/24 h.
RESULTS: Three out of 76 patients had postdexamethasone plasma cortisol more than 50 nmol/l. Only one also showed low-normal ACTH and mildly elevated urinary cortisol. The patient had a right 4 cm adrenal mass. Laparoscopic adrenalectomy was followed by short-term steroid replacement to prevent adrenal insufficiency. In-situ hybridization showed CYP11B1 expression exclusively in tumoral tissue, whereas CYP11B2 was expressed only in a peritumoral region composed of zona glomerulosa-like cells, suggesting the co-existence of a cortisol-producing adenoma and an aldosterone-producing hyperplasia in the same adrenal. The restoration of hormone abnormalities to normal levels was confirmed at 12 months of follow-up.
CONCLUSION: Concurrent aldosterone and subclinical cortisol hypersecretion seems to be a rare event in primary aldosteronism patients; however, its detection by appropriate testing is important to avoid AVS misinterpretation
Biomaterials for Bone Tissue Engineering 2020
Over the last few decades, a variety of tissue engineering strategies have been developed to improve the regenerative properties of bone biomaterials (e.g., osteoinduction and osteoconduction). This Special Issue on “Biomaterials for Bone Tissue Engineering” will provide an overview of the recent advances and cutting-edge approaches in the field of bone biomaterials and bone tissue engineering, including the new molecular insights on the various aspects of the interaction of bone substitutes with cells and tissues. Contributions reporting innovative materials, osteoinduction and osteoconduction approaches, and examples of combination with biochemical and/or physical stimuli and/or different cell types (e.g., stem cells, macrophages, endothelial cells) tested for their application in bone tissue regeneration and engineering are welcome
