Two-photon detachment cross sections and dynamic polarizability of H\u3csup\u3e-\u3c/sup\u3e using a variationally stable, coupled-channel hyperspherical approach
We present a generalization of the variationally stable method of Gao and Starace [B. Gao and A. F. Starace, Phys. Rev. Lett. 61, 404 (1988); Phys. Rev. A 39, 4550 (1989)] for two-electron atoms and ions that incorporates a coupled-channel adiabatic hyperspherical approach. Using this approach, we report results for two-photon detachment of H-, in which we have coupled one, two, three, and four adiabatic hyperspherical channels within each term level of the initial, intermediate, and final states. We present results also for the dynamic polarizability of H- as well as for the one-photon detachment cross section. Comparisons are given with results of prior work
Recensione a F. NASTI, L'attività normativa di Severo Alessandro I. Politica di governo. Riforme amministrative e giudiziarie, Napoli 2006
The recension offers a critical lecture of some important points of F. Nasti's monography about the Severo Alessandro normative policy, the last emperor of classical age, that brings clear prodromes of the developments of imminent Late Ancient age. A particular attention is aimed to some law provisions in matter of litigation about freedom and in criminal matter
COVID-19 disease Emergency Operational Instructions for Mental Health Departments issued by the Italian Society of Epidemiological Psychiatry
During the current COVID-19 disease emergency, it is not only an ethical imperative but also a public health responsibility to keep the network of community psychiatry services operational, particularly for the most vulnerable ones (subjects with mental illness, disability, and chronic conditions). At the same time, it is necessary to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 disease within the outpatient and inpatient services affiliated with Mental Health Departments. These instructions, first published online on March 16th 2020 in their original Italian version, provide a detailed description of actions, proposed by the Italian Society of Epidemiological Psychiatry, addressed to Italian Mental Health Departments during the current COVID-19 pandemic. The overall goal of the operational instructions is to guarantee, during the current health emergency, the provision of the best health care possible, taking into account both public health necessities as the safety of procedures. They could represent a useful resource to mental health providers, and stakeholders to face the current pandemic for which most of the Mental Health Departments are not prepared to. Those instructions could provide guidance and offer practical tools which can enable professionals and decision makers to foresee challenges, already experienced in Italy, which in part can be avoided or minimized if timely planned. These strategies could be shared and adopted, with the appropriate adjustments, by other Mental Health Departments

St John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum)-induced psychosis: a case report
Abstract Background St John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) has been known for centuries for its therapeutic properties and its efficacy as an antidepressant has been confirmed by a growing body of evidence. During the last two decades it has also come to prominence with a wider public, due to advertising efforts across Europe and United States of America. However, its availability without prescription, as an over-the-counter medication, raises some concern regarding its clinical management and unsupervised administration to individuals with psychopathological risks. To date, the evidence available regarding the administration of Hypericum in people with severe mental health problems is still meager and refers mainly to affective disorder spectrum or psychotic relapse in people with established diagnoses. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report regarding the onset of psychotic features in a patient presenting with psychotic diathesis. Case presentation The case discussed in this report is a 25-year-old white man, not known to the psychiatric services, with a history of brief and self-remitting drug-induced psychosis and a positive family history of psychotic depression. He was admitted to hospital due to the onset of florid psychotic symptoms concomitant with self-administration of Hypericum perforatum. Conclusions The aim of this report is to promote further systematic research, draw the attention of clinicians to the potential risks of Hypericum precipitating psychosis, and raise awareness among health professionals to investigate and caution their patients on the haphazard use of phytotherapeutics such as Hypericum
Two-photon ionization of the Ar atom and detachment of the F\u3csup\u3e-\u3c/sup\u3e ionv
Theoretical calculations of the two-photon ionization cross section of argon and of the two-photon detachment cross section of the negative fluorine ion are presented for the energy region from threshold to the single-photon ionization or detachment threshold. Detailed analyses are presented of the effects of various kinds of electron correlations, whose contributions to the two-photon transition amplitudes are evaluated using variationally stable procedures to sum implicitly over intermediate states. These variationally stable procedures enable us to give much more reliable predictions in the region of the first few intermediate-state resonances in argon than were provided by previous calculations of one of us [A.F. Starace and T. F. Jiang, Phys. Rev. A 36, 1705 (1987)]. In addition, we show here for both argon and F- the large corrections to the p (1S) final-state channel cross sections provided by certain intermediate-state shake-up interactions, which we show to be essential for obtaining good agreement of dipole length and velocity cross sections. We provide detailed comparisons of our results with those of previous workers; in particular, our results for the negative fluorine ion are in excellent agreement with the recent absolute measurement of Kwon et al. [Phys. Rev. A 40, 676 (1989)]
Comment on Length and Velocity Formulas in Approximate Oscillator-Strength Calculations
A previous paper by Starace showed that the length formula for the electric-dipole matrix element is the only consistent one for calculations that solve for the exact eigenfunctions of an approximate Hamiltonian containing a nonlocal potential. It is emphasized here that disagreement between such a length-formula calculation and experiment indicates inadequacy of the approximate Hamiltonian and not that the velocity formula may be preferable
The concepts of order, organization, certainty of law, usually characterizing the phenomen of codification completely implemented in Late antiquity, revel theyself advantageous for retracing the historical development of ius civile in Pomponii Enchiridion. This interpretation shows the finality of the author to emphasize jurisprudence’s role in contrast of the bully imperial trend to use the same concepts for political reasons, that is put into effect centralization and command of law’s production and application
Angular Distributions for Near-threshold (\u3ci\u3ee\u3c/i\u3e,2\u3ci\u3ee\u3c/i\u3e) Processes for Li and Mg
Distorted-wave calculations of the triply differential cross sections for electron-impact ionization of Li and Mg are presented for the coplanar, θ12=π geometry in which the final-state electrons share 2 eV of excess energy equally. Our theoretical approach, described in detail elsewhere [C. Pan and A. F. Starace, Phys. Rev. A 45, 4588 (1992)], employs a partial-wave expansion of initial- and final-state wave functions, treats direct and exchange interactions of initial and final electrons with the target core, and treats the final-state interaction between the two continuum electrons by a screening potential. Li and Mg targets are found to have more complex (e,2e) angular distributions than either H or He targets, stemming in large part from significant p-wave and higher one-electron phase shifts in the former elements
