Rev. Henryk Nowacki (1891-1968) and his research on the orthodox church music

    No full text
The author of the article familiarized us with father Henryk Nowacki, a distinguished musicologist, historian and a researcher of the Orthodox church music. The author made thorough critical analysis of the articles published by father Nowacki from 1929 to 1931 in Hossanna journal. Furthermore, he points out father Nowacki’s paucity on basis of content and elaboration. Next, the author of the article claims that father Nowacki’s main thesis were the result of making use solely from Russian sources concerning the Orthodox music. In spite of the above-mentioned reservations, the author of the article stands in a position that father Nowacki’s elaborations concerning the Orthodox church music became a stimulant to further studies on the Orthodox church music in Poland.W prezentowanym artykule autor przedstawił sylwetkę ks.

Law and values in the theory of law of Józef Nowacki

    No full text
The contents of the paper present the basic assumptions of Józef Nowacki’s theory of law. The author was a proponent of Hans Kelsen’s theory. The characteristic of Józef Nowacki’s views was the conviction that the foundations of the study of the law should be their „purity”. It is understood by him as freedom from any ideological assumption. This approach is consistently presented in his works dealing with issues of a specific nature. In the course of deliberations, the problem of the concept of law was discussed, as understood by Józef Nowacki. His works on the issues of the rule of law were also analyzed. Moreover, they presented his critical attention devoted to the jurisdiction of the Polish Constitutional Court. The conclusions highlight the validity of the author’s view that the consideration of the law should be free of any ideological assumptions.6225527610Filozofia Publiczna i Edukacja Demokratyczn

Cały ten zgiełk. O wczesnych reakcjach na uhonorowanie Olgi Tokarczuk Literacką Nagrodą Nobla

    No full text
The paper discusses selected reactions to the Nobel Prize for Literature awarded to Olga Tokarczuk. The author focuses on the dispute about the legitimacy and justification of the Swedish Academy’s decision, highlighting the sceptical opinions, in some cases challenging the Academy’s members’ verdict. Referring to a book by James F. English on cultural prizes, the author recalls the role of public controversies as an essential tool of influencing the general public. He also compares the situation of two winners of the Nobel Prize in Literature (Olga Tokarczuk – for 2018, Peter Handke – for 2019), announced on the same day. Concluding, the author seeks to present the most important aspects of the dispute on the position and influence of Tokarczuk’s literary output

Purpose: To report the results of a planned safety analysis from a phase III trial comparing capecitabine plus oxaliplatin (XELOX) with bolus fluorouracil/leucovorin (FU/LV) as adjuvant therapy for stage III colon cancer. Patients and Methods: Patients with stage III colon carcinoma were randomly assigned to receive either XELOX (intravenous oxaliplatin plus oral capecitabine; 3-week cycle for eight cycles) or standard intravenous bolus FU/LV administered as the Mayo Clinic (Mayo; Rochester, MN) or Roswell Park (RP; Buffalo, NY) regimen for a similar length of time. A total of 1,886 patients were randomly assigned. Results: The safety population comprised 1,864 patients, of whom 938 received XELOX and 926 received FU/LV. Most treatment-related adverse events (AEs) occurred at similar rates in both treatment arms. However, patients receiving XELOX experienced less all-grade diarrhea, alopecia, and more neurosensory toxicity, vomiting, and hand-foot syndrome than those patients receiving FU/LV. Compared with Mayo, XELOX showed fewer grade 3/4 hematologic AE and more grade 3/4 gastrointestinal AE. Compared with RP, XELOX showed less grade 3/4 gastrointestinal AE and more grade 3/4 hematologic AE. As expected grade 3/4 neurosensory toxicity and grade 3 hand-foot syndrome were higher with XELOX. Treatment-related mortality within 28 days from the last study dose was 0.6% in the XELOX group and 0.6% in the FU/LV group. Conclusion: XELOX has a manageable tolerability profile in the adjuvant setting. Shell-model calculation of Mo 100 double- β decay

    No full text
For the first time, the calculation of the nuclear matrix element of the double-β decay of Mo100, with and without the emission of two neutrinos, is performed in the framework of the nuclear shell model. This task is accomplished starting from a realistic nucleon-nucleon potential, then the effective shell-model Hamiltonian and decay operators are derived within the many-body perturbation theory. The exotic features which characterize the structure of Mo isotopes - such as shape coexistence and triaxiality softness - push the shell-model computational problem beyond its present limits, making it necessary to truncate the model space. This has been done with the goal to preserve as much as possible the role of the rejected degrees of freedom in an effective approach that has been introduced and tested in previous studies. This procedure is grounded on the analysis of the effective single-particle energies of a large-scale shell-model Hamiltonian, that leads to a truncation of the number of the orbitals belonging to the model space. Then, the original Hamiltonian generates a new one by way of a unitary transformation onto the reduced model space, to retain effectively the role of the excluded single-particle orbitals. The predictivity of our calculation of the nuclear matrix element for the neutrinoless double-β decay of Mo100 is supported by comparison with experiments of the calculated spectra, electromagnetic transition strengths, Gamow-Teller transition strengths, and the two-neutrino double-β nuclear matrix elements

Koncepcja analizy strategicznej organizacji pozarządowych. Perspektywa teoretycznych podejść do strategii

    No full text
The thesis of the paper is that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can build their value by using economies of scale, by assuming the position of a monopoly, by creating value for stakeholders, or by activities using network solutions. Adopting the above statement allows us to formulate the aim of the work as a need to identify methods and techniques of strategic analysis dedicated to NGOs. In the search for appropriate methods, the concept of four approaches to strategy was used: planning, positional, resource and network approaches. In the conducted research, a critical analysis of the literature and an analysis of documents and legal acts concerning NGOs in Poland were used. The research was carried out in the period from 2018 to 2021. The analyses (especially in parts 1, 2 and 4) used the findings contained in the doctoral dissertation of co-author Piotr Nowacki, Strategic Analysis in Building the Value of Non-Governmental Organizations. Badania prowadzono w latach 2018–2021. W analizach (szczególnie w częściach 1, 2 i 4) korzystano z badań zawartych w pracy doktorskiej Piotra Nowackiego, zatytułowanej Analiza strategiczna w budowaniu wartości organizacji pozarządowych
