2017 AEIT International annual conference
In recent years, we are seeing a growing synergy between the infrastructures for the production, transmission and distribution of electricity, telecommunications networks, and computing technologies that provide for the intelligence of the whole system. The ever-increasing dependence on electricity for carrying out daily activities, increasingly run by smart devices, and the need for an intelligent management of the power grid in the presence of a distributed generation from renewable sources, both are creating a tight interdependent system. Cloud computing, big data, large bandwidth interconnections support modern knowledge-based society paradigms.
The conference will host both technical and scientific contributions. It will showcase Italian and international research activities in the fields of electricity, automation, telecommunications and information technology, that form the solid foundation on which to build innovative actions
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Energy Transition: Semi-Automatic BIM Tool Approach for Elevating Sustainability in the Maputo Natural History Museum
Mozambique is experiencing the consequences of a severe energy crisis with economic and social impacts. Its strict dependence on hydroelectric sources is being severely tested by recent droughts that have drastically reduced water levels in dams. However, Mozambique is addressing energy poverty by exploring renewable energy sources thanks to investments in the sector by the European Union. The research concerns an energy analysis profile of the country and the penetration of renewable energy, presenting an energy upgrading scope through a semi-automatic calculation methodology in a Building Information Modeling (BIM) environment. The building under study, located in Maputo, is the Natural History Museum, which plays an important role in biodiversity conservation. Therefore, this paper proposes a BIM methodology for sizing an environmental control system tailored to serve the museum. The proposed system replaces the previous one and includes a photovoltaic system that not only meets the museum’s load but also supplies electricity to the surrounding area. Energy production from renewable sources with a surplus of 30% has been achieved. The proposed digital methodology has identified a maximum gap of 1.5% between the dimensions of the BIM duct and those of a traditional plant design, meeting ASHRAE requirements for environmental control
Numerical analysis of electromagnetic interactions by a cell during the mitosis phases
In this work, a numerical study of the interaction of an electromagnetic field with a biological cell in the different phases of mitosis is presented. In particular, the validity of the single-shell model during mitosis from a geometrical viewpoint has been considered.We consider the Jurkat cell for our analysis and model the content of the cell, composed by the nucleus and different organelles immersed in cytoplasm and delimited by the cellmembrane, as a singlematerial with appropriate electromagnetic properties derived by making use of effective medium approximation methods, i.e., we used a quasistatic approach to deal with the cell. To validate the model, a comparison between the original and 2 approximated geometry models is made and the results are in very good accordance. Subsequently, an analysis of the scattered field indicates that the most sensitive component to the mitosis phase is the one parallel to the segment joining the centers of the cells
Angiosarcoma of the spleen mimicking rupture. Case report and literature review
Primary angiosarcoma of the spleen is very rare and only 143 cases have previously been reported. The pathogenesis is unknown. The clinical aspects are variable, but loss of weight, anaemia, splenomegaly and liver metastases are frequently present. The age range is generally 18 to 93 years; only four of the reported patients were under 20 (Chen KTK). The prognosis is very poor in any case and survival isn't more than two years: wherever the spleen undergoes spontaneous rupture the survival should be less than six months. Patients with or without metastatic disease may be treated by chemotherapy but with poor results. Radiotherapy is used for the pain from bone metastasis. We report the clinical case concerning a 79-years-old man with liver metastases and a 5-cm lesion in the spleen, where a subcapsular rupture was suspected
Study of UV-induced DNA Repair Factor Recruitment: Kinetics and Dynamics
The local UV irradiation technique enables detection, kinetic measurements of recruitment, and quantification of DNA Damage Response (DDR) proteins at the site of UV-induced DNA damage.Using Isopore filters with high density pores of a broad range of sizes, it is possible to UV irradiate and damage only a very small portion of the nucleus of a cell by letting UV light pass only through the pores. Immunofluorescent analyses of modified DNA nucleotides, proteins, or fluorescently tagged versions of target factors can be used as markers to label and study UV-induced lesions and their repair
