Voiceless Victims in Sin tetas no hay paraíso
In his article Voiceless Victims in Sin tetas no hay paraíso Henry James Morello discusses Gustavo Bolívar\u27s Sin tetas no hay paraiso. The novel is, in Bolívar\u27s words, his way of bringing attention to the problem of young women in Colombia using prostitution in order to pay for plastic surgery a very specific problem facing the youth of Colombia. However, at what price is the success of the novel? Or, rather, who is compromised as a result of this cultural phenomenon? The author may have intended to write a novel that called attention to the problems facing Colombian society, the result, however, is very different. The outcome of the novel and its subsequent telenovela incarnations is nothing short of the reification and commodification of the people of Pereira, Colombia. In examining Bolivar\u27s choice of genre and narrative voice, Morello argues that Bolivar\u27s claim to bring attention to a terrible situation breaks down
Contributions to the interpretation, conservation and restoration of the historical and artistic artifacts of the Botanical Garden of Palermo: the Paride by Nunzio Morello – Purely cognitive and conservative requirements of the historical-artistic heritage of the Botanical Garden of the University of Palermo, have led the authors to present one of the most representative monuments of such Garden that is of great artistic and cultural value in the City of Palermo: the Paride Pensante, a marble sculpture made in 1839 by the Palermo sculptor Nunzio Morello - a pupil of the most famous artist Valerio Villareale - donated to his homeland and placed in the men- tioned Botanical Garden, in the square in front of the Serra “Carolina”. The sculpture is commented on in relation to the artistic addresses of the period in which it was realized and the mythical figure of the represented subject is discussed. Together with biographical notes on Morello, the cultural period in which he was formed and the artistic direction that distinguishes his work are recalled. Furthermore, information is given on the characteristics of the sculpture and on its conservation conditions. Finally, restoration interventions deemed necessary and not delayed are requested. In this regard, examined the current condition of the sculpture, which has been exposed to the deteriorating action of meteoric and biological agents for almost two centuries, measures aimed at recovering its integrity and readability are outlined. In particular, it is hypothesized should be, after restoration, the original sculpture placed in a suitable place for long-term ex situ conservation and a copy of a replacement already made by the management of the Botanical Garden should be placed in the previous site in order not to preclude its use at the site of origin
Nature-Based Solutions for Resilient and Thriving Cities: Opportunities and Challenges for Planning Future Cities
This chapter explains the importance for nature-based solutions as resilience
infrastructure of cities. It sets the scene for the challenges and opportunities
presented by a city-wide uptake and implementation of nature-based solutions as
integrative and systemic solutions to planning for urban resilience and sustainability.
We present not only the origins and the reasons for preferring nature-based solutions
over conventional grey infrastructure for dealing with climate change pressures
but also how different planning aspects of nature-based solutions need to be reconsidered,
reimagined and thereafter, transformed. In conclusion, an outlook towards
future cities is given on revolutionizing urban planning practice through naturebased
solutions
Misiones, Univ. Tucumán, Instituto Forestal Nacional); h) ambientes agroproductivos y agroecología (UNCO, UBA, Univ. de Cuyo y fundamentalmente INTA); i) ambiente urbano (UNNE, FADU-UBA, Univ. A Deduced Method for Assessing Safety and Security Perception: Case Study of Biblioteca Degli Alberi Park in Milan, Italy
Urban greening initiatives have taken many innovative forms over time, from large urban parks planning and preservation to ecosystem-based approaches such as Nature-based Solutions (NBS). Even though implementing NBS and vegetation are accompanied mainly by positive impacts, a considerable body of scientific evidence demonstrates the negative consequences of urban green areas on the subject of reducing safety and safety perception in terms of impacts on visibility and fear of crime. Considering vegetation as a critical element of the urban landscape, identifying the safety perception while implementing greenery interventions requires a deep study of their characteristics about space functionality.
This chapter aims to implement a methodology for assessing the safety and security perception of urban green spaces. The methodology is based on safety and security principles and indicators selected from an extensive literature review of scientific research and design guidelines for safer cities and relying in particular on the concept of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). Assembling data regarding the case study’s safety perception is conducted through a survey-based approach and an online questionnaire. Case-study application for testing the methodology was the Biblioteca degli Alberi di Milano (BAM) park in Milan, Italy
