Arriving in Paris around 1601 in the retinue of his master, the sculptor Pierre de Francqueville, the Florentine artist Francesco Bordoni was one of the main collaborators of Tommaso Francini in France in the making ornamental fountains. The article outlines the education of the two men in Florence and their knowledge of the great Tuscan gardens at the end of the 16th century in which sculptures and fountains already occupied a fundamental place. It then traces the first steps of the sculptor at the court of Henri IV. He works with Francini in the royal residences, and seems to have conceived not only the vases and ewers for the Grand Jardin at Fontainebleau, but also a certain number of bronze ornaments and figures for the fountains and the grottos at Saint-Germain. He also appears to be the author of five bronze masks that are still at Fontainebleau (the fountains of the Cour du Cheval bland and the Cour des Offices). Lastly, and before 1617, Bordoni would have worked for Leonora Galigaï, with Francini, on the fountains of the Chäteau de Lésigny-en-Brie. Cicali Giulia. Le sculpteur Francesco Bordoni, collaborateur des Francini. Liquorice-induced hypokalaemia and water retention in the absence of hypertension
This is a case report of a woman who showed headache, weakness, upper-limb edema and a generalized convulsive seizure after chronic ingestion of liquorice. She was taking oral contraceptives which can predispose to liquorice toxicity. Plasma potassium, aldosterone, renin activity and albumin were below the normal level. The abdominal echography and computerized tomography scan demonstrated a perihepatic and perisplenic thin liquid layer with liquid collection in the pelvis. The bioelectrical impedance suggested a hyperhydration state. After stopping the liquorice, the laboratory and bioelectrical values normalized and clinical upper-limb edema and the liquid in the abdomen disappeared in a few days. On the lifetime of the I-4(13/2) emitting level of the Er3+ ions in phosphate glasses
The decay time of the I-4(13/2) --> I-4(15/2) transition of Er3+ ions in phosphate glasses has been measured through a variable frequency of the pump beam intensity. It has been found that the decay times depend upon temperature and upon the presence of Yb codoping of host glass. The room temperature decay time increases from 5 to 8ms in presence of Yb codoping, but the longer decay time seems to be independent of the relative amount of Er and Yb. The decay times increase at low temperature, where, however, careful control of the sample temperature heated by the pump beam has to be performed. Mechanism of radiative and non-radiative decays are briefly described

Temperature dependence of the line shapes of two-photon excited transitions in KMgF3 : Eu2+
The two-photon excitation line shapes of f-f transitions of Eu2+ in KMgF3 have been investigated as a function of temperature. Results for several transition lines of the P-6(J) and D-6(J) multiplets are presented in this work. The two-photon excited transitions appear as zero-phonon lines with a Lorentzian profile whose peak energy is shifted from the zero temperature position. The observed temperature dependence of the zero-phonon line shapes is ascribed to the elastic scattering of the electronic transitions among vibrational states via anharmonic coupling to a phonon mode of the lattice heat-bath. In those components of 4f(7) multiplets whose energies are not resonant with the 4f(6)5d broad excited state, a direct proportionality to the phonon occupation number of the coupled mode is found for the line-shapes and peak-positions temperature dependences
