The Case Against Intervention
The Case Against Intervention - the fourth venture of the author Quah, Chee Heong, dwells upon contemporary social and economic issues. His previous books Optimal Currency Areas in East Asia, Eccentric Views on Money and Banking, and Austrian Economics in One Lesson lay stress on money, banking, and economics. This title concentrates on societal issues that currently define and affect our day-to-day lives which would certainly complement the curricula at colleges and universities. The objective of this work is to break the status quo and defy the fallacious reasoning in mainstream thinking, as Ronald Reagan once said, "Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem
Design, fabrication and performance testing of stationary freezer of Jollibee Food Corporation using non-CFC refrigerator (R-404A)
In general, the project study has provided the author a vast experience especially during the brainstorming stage where different problems occurred during the performance testing. The author was very glad to the previous theoretical lectures of Dr, Maglaya who was also my former professor in the subjects Advance Refrigeration and Air-conditioning during my undergraduate and graduate class in the De La Salle University. Thru his teachings and guidance, The author was able to apply the theoretical knowledge the author has learned in combating actual job problems experienced in the company. The project was very challenging because of the swift output during the testing and then making the necessary adjustments in order to attain the desired results. In addition, this project is a pioneer project of Chee Puck Refrigeration Inc that gave me a lot of pressure but the author is honored to have the privilege in embarking this task. The major concentration of the project study was to design, fabricate, and conduct a performance testing of stationary freezer using R-404A, a non-CFC refrigerant.
The results of the performance testing shows that the evaporating temperature of negative twenty degree Celsius (–20C) within 25 minutes were reach, which is the main requirements set by Jollibee Foods Corporation to Chee Puck Refrigeration Inc. In addition, the unit case was also subjected to severe physical testing by opening and closing the door with significant pressure on the boundaries of normal usage in order to test the physical toughness of the unit. Results show that the design and fabrication was very tough and formidable because it withstood significant pressures applied to unit case
怀旧与记忆 :陈志锐的诗学记忆 = Nostalgia and memory : reading of Tan Chee Lay’s lyric poetics
Tan Chee Lay is one of Singapore’s widely known Singapore Chinese Literature author amongst the younger generations’ authors. He has written numerous works of different genres including poems, prose, novels and even picture books. Instead of focusing on Singapore’s rapid development, Tan Chee Lay chose to pay attention to the grassroots, with hope to portray a more diversified Singapore in his works. As such, “Nostalgia” is one of the main themes of his works.
Being one of the recent authors, research and resources about his works are limited. Hence, this paper aims to analyze the fictional works of Tan Chee Lay using theories such as “Nostalgia” and “Memories”. Identities, localism, diaspora and cultural identity will also be discussed. The cultural development of Singapore, especially during 1970s to 1990s, can be seen when those scattered pieces of memories in his works are pieced together. Through this, what seemed like personal memory can become a collective memory of one generation.
The emotions and feelings encompassed in his works derived mostly from the grassroot society that he once lived in. Though poor and undeveloped, that was a place that was full of meaning and humanity.
Other than analyzing solely on Tan Chee Lay’s fictional works, this paper will put the analysis in the context of Singapore Chinese Literature’s development over the years, so as to see the bridging between the writers of the earlier and younger generations. Critical analysis aside, this paper also explores the philosophical thoughts behind his lyrical works.Bachelor of Arts in Chines

Alcohol Dehydrogenase Biosensor based on Poly (Aniline)-Poly (Vinylsulfonate) modified electrode and enhancement effect of CA2+ ions on the Electrocatalytic oxidation of NADH at Poly(Aniline)-Poly (Vinylsulfonate) and Poly (Aniline)-Poly (Styrenesulfonate) modified Electrodes
A membrane enzyme electrode sensitive towards ethanol was fabricated based on poly(aniline)-poly(vinylsulfonate) modified electrodes. Using the membrane electrode design and by varying the physical parameters, we established that the membrane enzyme electrode current response was consistent with a reversible enzyme kinetic model. Under conditions in which the product concentration was negligible within the enzyme layer of the enzyme electrode, the substrate-dependent current response could be described using a coupled reaction-diffusion model based on irreversible enzyme kinetics. This is the first report on the use of poly(aniline) modified electrodes as amperoraetric biosensors for the detection of ethanol. In the second part of this work, we investigated the enhancement of steady-state current towards NADH at poly(aniline)-poly(vinylsulfonate) and poly(aniline)- poly(styrenesulfonate) modified electrodes in the presence of calcium ions, using electrochemical methods, ^'P NMR and kinetic modelling. We observed reversible binding between Ca^^ and poly(aniline)-poly(vinylsulfonate) from cyclic voltammetry and steady- state experiments. The enhancement of electrocatalytic current towards NADH in the presence of between 20 and 40 mM Ca^^ were about 12 and 27 times for thin films of poly(aniline)-poly(vinylsulfonate) and poly(aniline)-poly(styrenesulfonate), respectively. This enhancement effect of Ca^^ ions on the electrocatalytic oxidation of NADH at poly(aniline) modified electrodes was much greater than those observed by workers using other mediators. From kinetic modelling of the experimental data, we found that the enhancement effect of Ca^^ ions was due to a large change in the polymer binding affinity for NADH or partitioning of NADH into the polymer film. The binding energy gain was estimated to be about 14 kJ m o f' in the presence of 25 mM Ca^^. This was confirmed by measurements using solid state ^'P NMR which indicated that NADH accumulated in the polymer film only in the presence of Ca^^.</p
A Performer\u27s Guide To Two Song Collections: “Mementos of Innocence” and “Three Yeats Songs” by Malaysian Composer Chee Yean Wong
Despite the flourishing existence of Asian Art Music for over half a century, relatively little has been done to advance its recognition and prominence. Through this project, the author hopes to shed light on the beauty and richness of Asian Art Music and encourage its inclusion in the repertoire of American classical music. The purpose of this document is to supply a comprehensive performer’s guide to Malaysian composer, Chee Yean Wong’s song collections: “Mementos of Innocence” and “Three Yeats Songs.” The collections feature settings of English poems by Jean Blewett, Christina Rossetti, Edwin C. Ranck, Rabindranath Tagore, and William Butler Yeats. Chee Yean Wong is a skilled pianist, composer, arranger, and lecturer with a strong educational background and extensive performing experience. His works have been published and performed both within Malaysia and on international platforms. This document provides an overview of Chee Yean Wong’s biographical information and composition style, along with general information about the poets, interpretation of the poems, analysis of the compositions and provides practical advice for performers. Supplementing the document are several appendices, which include a catalogue of Wong’s published compositions and a transcription of an interview with the composer. Additionally, a letter of permission is included
