FLAPS: un sistema integrato per la progettazione e pianificazione di un impianto automatico di montaggio
Sustainable work for human centred manufacturing
Sustainable manufacturing is a term mainly used with reference to processes which eliminate or reduce waste, chemical substances or physical agents hazardous to human health and environment, spare energy and materials as much as possible. Less attention is generally given to social problems and working conditions: but sustainable manufacturing means also sustainable work, seen as a mix of physical and mental safety, satisfaction, acceptable working times, dignitous salary, opportunity of learning, to improve one’s professional knowledge and competence. After an introduction dealing with the theories on work organization and related industrial experiences, the paper outlines the main problems of the assembly work and proposes some solutions for a future sustainable workplace in assembly processes
An Innovative Proposal for the Automated Manipulation of Products in Leather Industry
The level of automation in leather industry is quite low. This fact is mainly due to the particular features of this kind of material (non-rigid structure, irregular shape, delicate surface, etc.) that make the handling on the workstations very critical and difficult to be approached.
This proposal concerns a system for the robotized manipulation of plies, made of natural leather, in order to perform fully automated loading and unloading operations on finishing machines (painting, stretching machines, etc.). The system is mainly formed by a 4-axis robot, equipped with a special gripper, and an innovative spreading device used to place the grasped ply on a planar surface. The gripper has been designed in order to securely grasp different sizes of plies and different leathers. The grasping elements, formed by properly designed vacuum cups, have been developed according to a theoretical approach aimed at determining the optimal dimension of the vacuum area, in function of the porosity of the leather. The gripper moves the ply grasping it on a central area of its upper surface, determining the falling down of its borders due to the gravity. The spreader device is then used to spread the ply in order to correctly lay it on the conveyor belts of a processing machine
A finite mixture approach for the analysis of digital skills in Bulgaria, Finland and Italy: the role of socio-economic factors
The digital divide is the gap among population sub-groups in accessing and/or using digital technologies. Typically, older people show a lower propensity to have a broadband connection, use the Internet, and adopt new technologies than the younger ones. Motivated by the analysis of the heterogeneity in the use of digital technologies, we build a bipartite network concerning the presence of various digital skills in individuals from three different European countries: Bulgaria, Finland, and Italy. Bipartite networks provide a useful structure for representing relationships between two disjoint sets of nodes, formally called sending and receiving nodes. The goal is to perform a clustering of individuals (sending nodes) from each country based on their digital skills (receiving nodes). In this regard, we employ a Mixture of Latent Trait Analyzers (MLTA) with concomitant variables, which allows us to (i) cluster individuals according to their profile; (ii) analyze how socio-economic and demographic characteristics, as well as intergenerational ties, influence individual digitalization. Results show that the type of digitalization substantially depends on age, income and level of education, while the presence of children in the household seems to play an important role in the digitalization process in Italy and Finland only
