No full textTre maestri della modernità aprono sguardi nuovi sul paesaggio per vivere nella società odierna gli spazi di cultura, natura, arte e letteratura. Flavio Caroli, come in una delle sue presenze a che tempo che fa, dimostra che il paesaggio nella pittura va "dalla retina verso l'anima" accompagnandoci in un itinerario attraverso i quadri più celebri che raffigurano "il volto e l'anima della natura". Philippe Daverio apre una finestra sul paesaggio della modernità e tra curiosità, approfondimenti e intuizioni ribadisce che "il destino della città rappresenta oggi una questione che non può più essere ignorata, la domanda architettonica, e specificamente urbanistica, deve tornare al centro della nostra riflessione". Sebastiano Vassalli ci racconta, da Omero a gadda, il paesaggio letterario. L'autore della chimera avverte infine che "un orizzonte esclusivamente umano, per noi e per le nostre storie, non soltanto sarebbe insopportabile, come già aveva intuito Nietzsche, ma non sarebbe possibile e forse non è nemmeno pensabile"

Abstract: ’ingresso dell’Italia e del Giappone nella competizione imperialista fu tardivo in entrambi i casi e, comunque, segnato da una ‘disonorevole’ sconfitta nel caso dell’Italia e da un netto successo conseguito nel 1895 dal Giappone nella guerra contro la Cina. Non fu questa, tuttavia, l’unica differenza che contraddistinse gli inizi dell’avventura d’oltremare intrapresa dai due giovani stati nazionali. Se, infatti, le mire dell’Italia crispina (e, più in generale, delle potenze coloniali occidentali) furono rivolte verso società e popolazioni di un altro continente percepite come primitive e ‘astoriche’ e oggetto di un pregiudizio oramai radicato in Europa, la dominazione giapponese si diresse in primo luogo verso vicini asiatici con i quali esistevano antichi e robusti vincoli culturali. La politica nipponica si fondò su un rapporto con le popolazioni colonizzate che si presenta più complesso e, per molti versi, ambiguo rispetto a quanto accadde nel caso dell’Italia e di altri paesi occidentali. Elementi, questi, senza dubbio legati al suo essere unico esempio di potenza colonialista non occidentale che, ricorrendo all’idea di un’eredità condivisa da colonizzatori e colonizzati, poté perfino concepire la competizione imperialistica in Asia in chiave razziale incitando i popoli “gialli” a unirsi per difendersi dall’aggressione dei “bianchi”. Si analizza qui il lascito di tale peculiarità dell’imperialismo nipponico nella storiografia postbellica sino ai giorni nostri

Teachers, Employees, Workers and Peasants in the Social Security System of the Soviet Union, 1917-1939). http://archiviodigitale.unimc.it/handle/10123/607 This volume reconstructs the legislative, institutional and social history of the Soviet welfare state in the interwar period. The methodology of the study is based on macro and micro-historical analysis. This allows the author to examine the reforms of the social security system from different perspectives. She analyses the functioning of the insurance funds in the Soviet Union, the ways how the insurance funds were financed, and the development of the social services in the city of Moscow. The latter subject is treated in a number of case studies, including the carmaker Amo-Zil-Zis, Moscow School No. 25, and the system of war pensions. Based on extensive research in various archives of the former Soviet Union, this book also deals with the impact of the social security system on the every-day life of the Soviet people. The study reveals the astonishing evolution of a security system, which, contrary to Soviet propaganda, did not guarantee egalitarian treatment for all workers, but privileged those who were especially important for the industrialisation of the country (skilled workers) at the expense of the vulnerable and unskilled (disabled and unemployed). Although such transformation of the security system was typical of other European countries hit by the 1929 crisis, the Soviet system did not degenerate into race-based social policy as it happened in Germany
