GWO-Boosted Multi-Attribute Client Selection for Over-The-Air Federated Learning

    No full text
Federated Learning (FL) has gained popularity across various industries due to its ability to train machine learning models without explicit sharing of sensitive data. While this paradigm offers significant advantages such as privacy preservation and reduced communication overhead, it also comes with several challenges such as deployment complexity and interoperability issues, particularly in heterogeneous scenarios or resource-constrained environments. Over-the-air (OTA) FL was introduced to address those challenges by sharing model updates without the need for direct device-to-device connections or centralized servers. However, OTA-FL induces some issues related to increased energy consumption, wireless channel variability, and network latency. In this paper, we propose a multi-attribute client selection framework using the Grey Wolf optimizer to limit the number of participants in each round and optimize the OTA-FL process while considering the energy, delay, reliability, and fairness constraints of participating devices. We analyze the performance of our client selection approach in terms of model loss, convergence time, and overall accuracy. Our experimental results show that the proposed multi-attribute client selection can lower energy consumption by up to 43% compared to the random client selection method

Evolutionary Dynamics of Cooperative Sensing in Cognitive Radios Under Partial System State Information

Cooperative sensing enables secondary users to combine individual sensing results in order to attain sensing accuracies beyond those achieved by consumer RF devices. However, due to sensing costs, secondary users may prefer not to cooperate to the sensing task, leading to higher false alarm probability. In this paper, we study how information about the presence of cooperators affects the dynamics of cooperative sensing schemes. We consider two scenarios, namely the case when SUs cannot detect the presence of other potential cooperators, and the case when SUs have prior information on the presence of other SUs in radio range. Using an evolutionary game framework, we demonstrate that protocols delivering such type of information to SUs reduce cooperation and ultimately lead to degraded network performance. Finally, a learning process based on the replicator dynamics is proposed which is capable to drive the system to the evolutionary stable solution. The results of the paper are illustrated through numerical simulation

Role and Functions of Folklore and Mythological Elements in the Work of M. A. Sabir

The folklore and mythological traditions in the works of the outstanding poet-satirist of the late XIX — early XX centuries M. A. Sabir are considered in the article. It is noted that modern Sabirovology unites scientists from Azerbaijan, Russia and other countries who turn to the study of the poet’s works. The results of the analysis of a number of poetic works of Sabir, in which the author uses folklore and mythological elements as a technique that enhances the satirical sound of his texts are presented in the article. The author believes that Sabir, thanks to the inclusion of representatives of the demonic world (hortdan, damdabadzha, djinn, djann, Baba Yaga) among the characters, emphasizes the power of influence on people of belief in otherworldly forces, thus ridiculing inertness of thinking, unwillingness to develop, to keep up with progress. It is shown that Sabir creates realistic negative social types: money-grubbing, ignorant, etc. Special attention is paid to small folklore and mythological genres (curse, blessing, omen), which emphasize a person’s faith in the magical power of the word. It is noted that the study of folklore and mythological elements in the satirical works of Sabir has a perspective

Maghreb, from the end of the 19th century, saw the birth of a cultural production deeply rooted in its historical-geographical context. This production is characterised by a style and sometimes by contents that are essentially comic and mostly illustrate the colonial world of French Pieds-Noirs. It is sometimes written in Pataouète, the Patois of the Algerian French, or in colourful variants of it; sometimes its language is a kind of creative and literary unilateral sabir, supposed to be the language of the colonial Other, which is mainly Arabic. This idiom is very different from French but derives from it and it is, in essence, a French badly understood and badly spoken by less-educated Arabic-speakers in their interactions with French-speakers. Besides being a telltale investigation on the identity of the person that signed the first and most important text in sabir as Kaddour (1898), this paper aims to give a contrastive analysis of essential features in different sabir texts, as well as to show the textual relationship between the roles of Author/Narrator and Hero, in order to allow their colonial nature and functions emerge

Prague 2025 Abstract In this study a method is developed and introduced to reach embedded statements within 1 Corinthians 8-10. With embedded statements are understood those statements that Paul inserts from his interlocutors, whether the source of the statements were written or oral and whether they were verbatim or not. In ancient literature such statements were not necessarily introduced as such, and as a consequence modern translators and readers often struggle to define where an author begins or takes up his interactions of the sort. Those statements are then categorized in the study as either originally Pauline or from one of the two prominent positions in Corinth upon the subject of Idol Food. The arguments are then analyzed for how a..

The present dissertation deals with the problem of under-utilization of collision channels and other related problems in wireless networks. It deals with the design of random access protocols for wireless systems and provides a mathematical framework for performance evaluation of multihop based heterogeneous wireless networks. This thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part, we propose new versions of slotted aloha incorporating power control, priority and hierarchy. Our simulations were important to understand the behaviour of such a system and the real impact of involved parameters (transmit power, transmit rate, arrival rate, hierarchy order). Both team problem (common objective function is maximized) and game problem (each user maximizes its own objective) were discussed. Introducing hierarchy seems to provide many promising improvement without/or with a low amount of external information. We also proposed two distributed algorithms to learn the desired throughput. Next, we developed in the second part an analytical Framework to evaluate performances of multihop based heterogeneous Wireless networks. We built a cross-layer model and derived expression of stability, end-to-end throughput and end-to-end delay. Furthermore, we provided an accurate approximation for the distribution of end-to-end delay in multihop ad hoc networks (operating with slotted aloha protocol). As a direct application, we highlighted how streaming and conversational flows could be supported in this class of ubiquitous networks. The third part of this thesis is devoted to understanding and modelling of IEEE 802.11e DCF/EDCF-operated multihop ad hoc networks. We indeed built a complete and simple APPLICATION/NETWORK/MAC/PHY cross-layered model with finite retries per packet per flow. We analyzed the stability of forwarding queues and derived expression of end-to-end throughput. We finally proposed a Fountain code-based MAC layer to improve the throughput/fairness over the network.

Author Rizwaan Sabir, as a then-MA student at Nottingham University, became known as one-half of the “Nottingham Two” following his arrest along with Hicham Yezza in May 2008. They were detained for six days without charge on suspicion of terrorism for the possession of a document titled the Al Qaeda Training Manual, which was freely available on the internet and from bookstores. Sabir had downloaded it from a US government website for use as primary source material in his proposed PhD research on armed Muslim groups. But Sabir’s arrest, detention, interrogation, and release without charge takes up only about one-fifth of the pages; the remainder covers subsequent events revealing the extent of the surveillance to which he was subject, and his increasing awareness of information held about him not only by the police but by a dizzying array of interconnected authorities

Prague 2025 Abstrakt Jednota a rozmanitost v Korintu: Raně křesťanské spory o význam pokrmů obětovaných modlám Tato práce rozvíjí a aplikuje metodu s cílem vyčlenit výroky vnořené do textu 1 Kor 8-10.
