No full textMost of the articles in the EM Programmers Notebook column address either computational electromagnetics or electromagnetic simulation of one form or another. The article in this issues EM Programmers Notebook column instead considers new radio-frequency identification tags; these tags contain some embedded local processing capability and provide several new functionalities, such as autonomous reasoning, self-configurability, sensing, and actuation. In particular, the coding of Internet of Things applications for these new tags is discussed. No full textLa serie televisiva "Downton Abbey", andata in onda in sei stagioni dal 2010 al 2015, ha mobilitato, con la sua celebrazione dell'età edoardiana, un immaginario vasto e ricco di risonanze che ha fatto leva sulla spiccata tendenza della cultura contemporanea al recupero nostalgico del passato, specie di quello a cavallo tra tardo Ottocento e primo Novecento. Il libro, che ha visto la partecipazione di studiose di diverse discipline, affronta le molteplici connessioni della serie con la storia culturale, la tradizione letteraria e alcuni filoni cinematografici e televisivi. La riflessione è dedicata in particolare all’orchestrazione narrativa, agli sfondi e ai contesti letterari e culturali, alle ripercussioni attuali nel costume e nel marketing e alle appropriazioni letterarie, intermediali e transmediali dell’universo di "Downton Abbey"

No full textIl saggio si sofferma in particolare sulla centralità del rapporto tra vecchio e nuovo mondo, ponendo un'enfasi particolare sulle modalità attraverso le quali il 'vecchio' appare decisamente privilegiato. Tra queste, il ricorso a riferimenti culturali e letterari prestigiosi come quello dickensiano, ma non mancano citazioni, parafrasi e allusioni numerose ad altri autori vittoriani e primo-novecenteschi, oltre che a Shakespeare. Anche nell'utilizzo specifico del linguaggio audiovisivo seriale, lo sceneggiatore e creatore Julian Fellowes sposta il suo baricentro verso la 'tradizione' adottando un formato che, pur modernizzandone gli stilemi, condivide con la forma melodrammatica della soap-opera non poche caratteristiche. L'intenzione di fondo appare quella di farne veicolo di traduzione, accorata e particolareggiata, per un passato nostalgicamente evocato, quello dell'età d'oro edoardiana
