Implementation of ERP system in SMEs
This thesis tries to propose a list of Critical Success Factors (CSFs) in the form
of CSFs framework for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
implementation at Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs).The research
describe in this thesis tries to test them by going through the experience of ERP
system implementation in SME called Hazelwood Sound & Vision Ltd (HSV).
In a first instance, the author compared implementation models and suggested
most appropriate model for HSV. Furthermore, literature search for critical
success factors of ERP implementation has taken place. This led to a general
CSFs framework for ERP system implementation. At later stage, CSFs were
classified into the phases of selected implementation model. This resulted in
integrated framework which later used for ERP system implementation called
Smart Office in HSV. Through this experience of implementing Smart Office in
HSV, the author determined factors which were critical for the success of the
ERP implementation in HSV and compared them with CSFs found in literature.
The study also examines, through the critical success factors, the impacts and
issues in implementation related to these factors. Findings include: an
increased emphasis upon the determination of clear goals and objectives at the
project outset, and, importantly, vendor support added value in terms of
specialist software knowledge and enhanced project team capability. Results
show that most of the success factors, found in the literature apply to HSV,
although change management, and communication among departments, don‟t
seems to be regarded as top CSFs for HSV.
Implementation is an expensive investment, and difficult to implement, due to
its complexity. It is hoped that knowledge and understanding of these factors
will assist SMEs in successfully implementing ERP and enable them to further
improve their systems in order to maximize returns. Furthermore, by identifying
relevant CSFs for SMEs, managers can better prioritize implementation efforts
and resources to maximize success of ERP implementations. One of the
outcomes of this research is implementation of Smart Office which fulfils the
business needs of the HSV
Personalized Training in Romanian SME’s ERP Implementation Projects
Many practitioners and IS researchers have stated that the overwhelming majority of Enter-prise Resource Planning (ERP) systems implementations exceed their training budget and their time allocations. In consequence many Romanian SMEs that implement an ERP system are looking to new approaches of knowledge transfer and performance support that are better aligned with business goals, deliver measurable results and are cost effective. Thus, we have begun to analyze the training methods used in ERP implementation in order to provide a so-lution that could help us maximize the efficiency of an ERP training program. The Modeling of the ERP Systems within Parallel Calculus
As we know from a few years, the basic characteristics of ERP systems are: modular-design, central common database, integration of the modules, data transfer between modules done automatically, complex systems and flexible configuration. Because this, is obviously a parallel approach to design and implement them within parallel algorithms, parallel calculus and distributed databases. Evaluating enterprise resource planning (ERP) post-implementation problems in Egypt
The aim of the research is to identify and evaluate the main problems experienced in the ERP post- implementation stage of multinational, privately-owned Egyptian and governmental organizations in Egypt. Challenges and influential factors in ERP adoption and implementation
The adoption and implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is a challenging and expensive task that not only requires rigorous efforts but also demands to have a detailed analysis of such factors that are critical to the adoption or implementation of ERP systems. Many efforts have been made to identify such influential factors for ERP; however, they are not filtered comprehensively in terms of the different perspectives. This paper focuses on the ERP critical success factors from five different perspectives such as: stakeholders; process; technology; organisation; and project. Results from the literature review are presented and 19 such factors are identified that are imperative for a successful ERP implementation, which are listed in order of their importance. Critical success factors in ERP implementation: A review
ERP systems have become vital strategic tools in today’s competitive business environment. This ongoing research study presents a review of recent research work in ERP systems. It attempts to identify the main benefits of ERP systems, the drawbacks and the critical success factors for implementation discussed in the relevant literature. The findings revealed that despite some organizations have faced challenges undertaking ERP implementations, many others have enjoyed the benefits that the systems have brought to the organizations. ERP system facilitates the smooth flow of common functional information and practices across the entire organization. In addition, it improves the performance of the supply chain and reduces the cycle times. However, without top management support, having appropriate business plan and vision, re-engineering business process, effective project management, user involvement and education and training, organizations can not embrace the full benefits of such complex system and the risk of failure might be at high level
A framework for complexity cost modelling of ERP implementation
The aim of this research is to develop a framework to predict the cost of the
resource complexities inherent in an ERP implementation. The framework
comprises two phases namely complexity assessment, and dynamic cost
estimation for resource complexity using agent-based modelling. The
complexity assessment phase involves complexity identification, uncertainty
evaluation for the complexity estimates, complexity assessment, complexity
classification, and complexity correlation reporting. The framework is
automated in a tool known as Complexity of Resource and Assessment Costing
Tool (C-REACT).
A number of activities have been undertaken in order to develop the ERP
resource complexity framework. Firstly, a detailed literature review was
performed in order to gain a contextual understanding of ERP implementation
challenges and complexities. Secondly, a case study analysis was conducted
to establish the current industrial practices concerning ERP implementation
challenges. Thirdly, a framework was developed and validated to identify,
assess and cost ERP complexity for each resource.
The key contribution of the framework is to introduce a new cost estimation
process to support ERP project cost estimation by predicting the cost of ERP
resource complexities, and a new process to identify, assess and control ERP
complexities inherent in the implementation stage. This framework should be
used in the needs identification stage of an ERP project lifecycle. The estimate
will inform an organisation of the potential costs of ERP resources from a
complexity perspective, thereby enabling them to make informed decisions on
ERP implementation complexity and cost reduction. Knowledge of potential
complexities will also aid the elimination of substantial errors during
implementation. Hence the organisation will yield benefits which they would not
otherwise reap in the face of complexity
ERP inside Large Organizations
Many large companies in Romania are still functioning without an ERP system. Instead they are using traditional application systems built around the strong boundaries of specific functions: finance, selling, HR, production. An ERP will offer lots of advantages among which the integration of functionalities and support for top management decisions. Although the total cost of ownership is not small and there are some risks when implementing an ERP inside large and very large organizations, having such a system is mandatory. Towards a cost modelling framework for outsourcing ERP systems
ERP systems are costly, complex and require high-qualified people to manage
them. In the current economic cliamt, when companies need to cut off costs,
avoid expensive in-house skilled people and being focused on the core of their
businesses, outsourcing ERP systems could be a solution to consider. The aim of
this paper is to provide a framework that represents the first step towards the
development of a cost modelling framework for outsourcing ERP systems which may
help companies to select ERP providers and understand real outsourcing costs
Factors influencing ERP projects success in the vendor selection process
Successful implementation of an ERP system is the result of knowledgeable and dedicated people working together. It entails company-wide commitment, openness to change, good planning and experienced guidance. These primary criteria determine the probability of gaining significant return on investment (ROI) from an ERP system. Using these criteria as guidelines during the system selection process and subsequent implementation can ensure that the chosen system will support and enable the business improvements envisioned.
