Improving Software Testing Education via Industry Sponsored Contests
Due to copyright restrictions full text access from Treasures at UT Dallas is restricted to current UTD affiliates (use the provided Link to Article). This Innovative Practice, Work in Progress Paper presents how we improve software testing education via industry sponsored contests. Over the past decades, we have built software to improve our efficiency, reliability, and safety in production, business, daily life, etc. These goals, however, cannot be accomplished if the software is not properly tested. Some universities provide classes to teach students the fundamental knowledge and techniques of software testing. However, these classes often ignore industry practices and can hardly offer real-world testing experiences to students. To address this, we partnered with industry sponsors to design and host several software testing contests along with software testing tutorials. Through the contests and tutorials, we brought real-world testing and tool experience to the students and provided excellent opportunities for them to practice their learned testing techniques to overcome industry testing challenges. ©2018 IEEE.Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Scienc

Control and Filtering for Discrete Linear Repetitive Processes with H infty and ell 2--ell infty Performance
Repetitive processes are characterized by a series of sweeps, termed passes, through a set of dynamics defined over a finite duration known as the pass length. On each pass an output, termed the pass profile, is produced which acts as a forcing function on, and hence contributes to, the dynamics of the next pass profile. This can lead to oscillations which increase in amplitude in the pass to pass direction and cannot be controlled by standard control laws. Here we give new results on the design of physically based control laws for the sub-class of so-called discrete linear repetitive processes which arise in applications areas such as iterative learning control. The main contribution is to show how control law design can be undertaken within the framework of a general robust filtering problem with guaranteed levels of performance. In particular, we develop algorithms for the design of an H? and dynamic output feedback controller and filter which guarantees that the resulting controlled (filtering error) process, respectively, is stable along the pass and has prescribed disturbance attenuation performance as measured by and – norms
(Anti)protagonists? : disability in the postwar Serbian prose
Autorka analizuje wybrane dzieła trzech autorów serbskich: Ivo Andricia (Most na Drinie), Miodraga Bulatovicia (Czerwony kogut leci wprost do nieba) i Danila Kiša (Ogród, popiół). The Author made an attempt to the analysis of chosen works written by three Serbian writers: Ivo Andrić (The Bridge on the Drina), Miodrag Bulatović (The Red Rooster Flies Heavenwards) and Danilo Kiš (Garden, Ashes). Her purpose is to answer the question which is focused on the category of the antiprotagonist in the context of the disability studies. The Author is focused on the similarities in representations of the disability in the postwar Serbian prose. She shows also the necesserity of the connection between the disability studies and other research perspectives

The linguistic representation of disabled people among 6th grade students of primary school
This article is focused on the linguistic representation of disabled people among 6th grade students of primary schools, basingonresearchcarriedout in 2013 inCracow. It draws attention to the representation of disabled people in the Polish language of the turn of the 20th and 21st
century, with a special focus on the problem of transfering medical definitions into the colloquial language. In the next paragraph, the author presents results of her research and compares them with those made by Sławomira Sadowska in 2004, placing them in the context of general cultural changes in Poland, which concern the situation of disabled people
Enhanced lattice boltzmann modelling of axisymmetric flows
An enhanced axisymmetric Lattice Boltzmann fluid simulation model developed by the second author involves no calculation for velocity gradients and has the feature that all external force terms can simply be added to the model. In this paper, the model is extended and applied to investigate the characteristics of two complex axisymmetric flows for further assessment of its capability. First of all, Taylor-Couette flow for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids is considered. The combined effects of the Reynolds number, the radius ratio and the power-law index n on the flow characteristics are analysed for an annular space of finite aspect ratio. Different forced axisymmetric laminar coldflow jets are then taken into account with different values of forcing amplitudes in the jets. The numerical results are compared with existing numerical results and experimental data reported in the literature to demonstrate the accuracy of the model
