No full textSexual harassment is a social issue that can evoke highly polarized attitudes (Engelberg & Moston, 1997). To some it is a serious problem, requiring draconian actions with implications for all personal relationships within the workplace. Yet to others, it is an issue that is both trivial and humorous. These differing positions are, in part, due to the different ways in which we understand what is meant by sexual harassment. Over the last few decades, the media have compounded this confusion, with stories being featured more for their titillation value rather than their actual significance or representativeness. While these problems are characteristic of many other social issues, they are especially significant within the context of sexual harassment since it is still a relatively new phenomenon

No full textThe Thea Hoffman Engelberg Collection contains family documents of the Hoffman-Engelberg family. It is made up of photos of members of the family, class photos, a newspaper clipping, and material regarding the wedding of Bernhard Schön and Ernestine Benas (Thea's grandparents) in 1886 and their 25th anniversary celebration. Postcard correspondence between friends and family members is included, as well as correspondence in regards to the death of Leanora (Thea's mother) and a manuscript of one-frame cartoons entitled, "W.T.W. in Bild und Wort."the Middletown Psychiatric Center congratulating Dr. Lazar Engelberg (Thea’s husband) to 25 years of employment ; death of Leonora Hoffmann (Thea’s mother) on Oct. 6, 1972.Leonora Schoen, Bernhard and Ernestine Schoen, Margarethe (Marga) Schoen ; Erich Schoen.Adolf and Nora Hoffmann had a summer home in Klausdorf, Brandenburg. In 1941 (?) they buried a few decorative silver vessels (commemorating a 25 year anniversary) in their garden and brought them with them to the USA after their liberation.Thea Engelberg, née Hoffmann, was born in Berlin on January 16, 1923. Her parents were Adolf (1896-?) and Leanora (Nora) Hoffmann (1888–1972). Nora Hoffmann was born Leanora Schön, the oldest child of Bernhard and Ernestine Schön, née Benas. Ernestine's father was named Jack Benas, and owned a wool factory. Bernhard and Ernestine were married in 1886 and celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in 1911. Leanora had two siblings; Margarethe (Marga) Schön and Erich Schön. Leanora married Adolf Hoffmann, and in 1941, they buried a few decorative silver vessels in their garden at the family vacation home in Klausdorf, Brandenburg. Leanora and Thea appear to have lived in Germany until at least 1942. After immigrating to the United States, Leanora lived in Brooklyn until her death on October 6, 1972. Thea married Dr. Lazar Engelberg, and they had two children, Garry and Bernard. Thea died on May 19, 2004 in Goshen, NY after living in Middletown, NY for 50 years with her husband and children.digitizedProcesse

No full textAn Engelberg copy of the historical work Historiarum adversum paganos libri VII by the ecclesiastical author Orosius. The Engelberg exemplar was commissioned under Abbot Frowin (1143-1178). It contains, among other items, noteworthy initials in the Engelberg book decoration style of the time and a large number of glosses. The manuscript is a meticulous copy from the St. Gall exemplar, Cod. 621 (9th century). This Engelberg manuscript later served as the master text for yet another copy, Cod. 60 of the Schaffhausen City Library (Schaffhauser Stadtbibliothek).Online Since: 2007-07-3
