Paul Elliott Ashby, LL.B. Lexington, Kentucky Paul, or “Chief Justice,” as he is known to the frequenters of the Law Library, came here in the good old days when the word “whistle” meant more than a soft drink. He has not been here all this time, however. He stayed away from us long enough to convince Mrs. Ashby that she needed a husband. Broad of shoulder, sober of mind, deep of thought, commanding in appearance, a lover of a good joke, and a genuine good fellow – what is there to keep him from becoming “Chief Justice” indeed? -The Kentuckian, 1922--------------------------------- Paul Elliott Ashby (August 22, 1892 - October 22, 1942) was born in Webster County, Kentucky to Henry Louis Ashby and Mattie Elliott. Ashby moved to Evansville, Indiana after receiving his LL.B.. He practiced law there and occasionally served as a city judge. Ashby married Bessie King in 1913.https://uknowledge.uky.edu/klapp_1922/1001/thumbnail.jp
