Analyzing the Political Sentiment of Tweets in Farsi
We examine the question of whether we can automatically classify the sentiment of individual tweets in Farsi, to determine their changing sentiments over time toward a number of trending political topics. Examining tweets in Farsi adds challenges such as the lack of a sentiment lexicon and part-of-speech taggers, frequent use of colloquial words, and unique orthography and morphology characteristics. We have collected over 1 million Tweets on political topics in the Farsi language, with an annotated data set of over 3,000 tweets. We find that an SVM classifier with Brown clustering for feature selection yields a median accuracy of 56% and accuracy as high as 70%. We use this classifier to track dynamic sentiment during a key period of Irans negotiations over its nuclear program
Farsi Language and Iranian immigration in Europe
Following a short outline of the history of the Iranian languages and Farsi, the
Author analyses the different waves of Iranian emigrations before and after the
Islamic Revolution. Data on the more recent Iranian emigration in Europe and Italy
are reviewed, and a short discussion on the cultural and translational problems
connected to emigration closes the essay. A bibliography of some 20 titles on the
problem is also appended
Cyber Diplomacy Influence on Viewpoint of Iranian Users of Cyberspace (Case Study: USA Dar Farsi Facebook Webpage)
The subject of this article is “U.S Cyber Diplomacy Influence on Viewpoint of Iranian Users of Cyberspace(Case Study: USA Dar Farsi Facebook Webpage)”. Nowadays, using Internet and social networks to advance foreign policy goals and national interests, has become one of the most important issues. From 40’s and during World War II, U.S government tried to implement various cultural programs, stuent exchange programs, and use publications, the media and movies to convince residents of different countries about its foreign policy goals, and it became known as public diplomacy. Considering Iran’s high stance in U.S foreign policy, United States Department of State implemented various cyber diplomacy projects to influence Iranians public opinion that include launching USA Dar Farsi Facebook Webpage. In this thesis, the Author tried to answer one key question concerning this important strategy within US foreign policy system: What is the Influence of USA Dar Farsi Facebook Webpage, as a tool of U.S Cyber Diplomacy, on Viewpoint of Iranian Users of Cyberspace? For this purpose, qualitative content analysis of USA Dar Farsi Facebook Webpage and sending questionnaires to its users and other Iranian users of Internet has been used. The hypothesis is that, comparing to Iranian Internet users who do not read USA Dar Farsi Facebook Webpage content, the USA Dar Farsi Facebook Webpage users are more influenced by cyber diplomacy content and messages and this leads to negative attitude towards Iranian society
Nephroprotective Effect Of Clinacanhus Nutans, Orthosiphon Stamineus, And Syzyguim Camponulatum Leaves Against Cisplatin-Induced Nephrotoxcity; And Safety Asseement Of Clinacathus Nutans Leaves
Cisplatin is an effective chemotherapeutic agent for solid tumors. However, it also induces dose-dependent progressive and irreversible nephrotoxicity. Cisplatin has multiple intracellular effects, which includes causing direct cytotoxicity with reactive oxygen species, activating apoptosis, and stimulating inflammation, events of which cause vascular and tubular dysfunction. Animal models have demonstrated that cisplatin-induced renal toxicity is characterized by a rapid loss of glomerular filtration, polyuria, hyperkalemia, hypernatremia, and azotemia. Recently, much attention has been given to the possible role of herbal medicine in protecting against cisplatin-induced renal toxicity

Description: More than 70 languages are spoken in contemporary Iran, yet all governmental correspondence and educational textbooks must be written in Farsi. To date, the Iranian mother tongue debate has remained far from the international scholarly exchanges of ideas about multilingual education. Using conversations with Tove Skutnabb-Kangas, Jim Cummins, Ajit Mohanty, and Stephen Bahry, prominent academic experts in linguistic human rights, mother tongue education and bilingual and multilingual education, this book bridges that gap. The author examines the arguments for rejecting multilingual education in Iran, and the four interviewees counter those arguments with evidence that mother tongue-based education has resulted in positive outcomes for the speakers of non-dominant language groups and the country itself. It is hoped that this book will engage an international audience with the debate in Iran and show how multilingual education could benefit the country.https://ecommons.udayton.edu/books/1000/thumbnail.jp
Multidrug-resistant Enterobacterales in Oman : molecular epidemiology and therapeutic insights
The spread of antibiotic resistance is a concerning issue causing limited treatment options for bacterial infections, particularly with Gram-negative bacteria. Surveillance and epidemiological studies help to determine the magnitude of the problem as well as to establish early measures to slow down the spread of resistance and consequently increase antibiotic lifespan. Currently, there is a visible paucity of published data about resistance from the Arabian Peninsula. In this thesis, we studied a collection of carbapenem nonsusceptible E. coli (n=35) and K. pneumoniae (n=237) isolated in 2015 from various hospitals in Oman. We aimed at identifying resistance mechanisms, mapping the bacterial population structure, investigating bacterial fitness, and studying potential treatment options available to tackle infections caused by such multidrug-resistant strains. These aims were addressed in five papers as discussed below.NDM and OXA-48 were the only carbapenemases we found in this collection, both among E. coli (Paper I) and K. pneumoniae (Paper II). The pattern of resistance among the isolates from Arabian Peninsula mimics the pattern reported from the Indian subcontinent, most likely due to the close socioeconomic interactions between them. Both regions lack KPC enzymes, which are commonly seen in China and the US from strains belong to ST11 and ST258, respectively. Despite ST11 being predominant in this collection, we did not detect KPC. Yet, we detected a high-risk clone of E. coli, ST131-H30Rx-CTX-M-15. Additionally, we identified newly emerging clones of K. pneumoniae and E. coli such as ST231 and ST1193-H64RxC, respectively. Nearly 10% of the K. pneumoniae isolates in our collection were colistin resistant which prompted us to study the mechanisms of colistin resistance (Paper III). MgrB-inactivation by insertion elements was seen in 8 isolates while other mutations were seen in other chromosomal genes known to be involved in colistin resistance e.g. pmrB, phoPQ and crrB. However, we did not detect mcr genes. Collectively, the genetic alterations are thought to reduce the net negative charge in bacterial cell wall, hence lowering the binding affinity of colistin. Our data underscores that there is no reduction in the surface charge in colistinresistant K. pneumoniae, due to the MgrB-insertion (Paper IV). The genetic alteration might lead to other structural changes in the cell wall such as altering hydrophobicity, which required further investigation. Also, our data shows no difference in the survival rates of colistin resistant and susceptible strains in blood, serum and zebrafish model. Thus, gaining resistance against colistin does not infer a fitness cost in K. pneumoniae with MgrB-insertion (Paper IV). Additionally, colistin and LL-37 share similar binding mechanism which suggest there might be a cross-resistance between them. Our data supported this hypothesis, but only at high concentrations of LL-37 ( ≥ 50 mg/L) (Paper IV). Finally, we studied available options to treat infections caused by multidrug-resistant strains. Combining colistin and rifampicin showed good in vitro activity against multidrug-resistant strains of E. coli (Paper V) and K. pneumoniae (Paper III).To summarise, we conducted comprehensive genomic analysis of E. coli and K. pneumoniae isolates from Oman to reveal the resistance mechanism, their impact on bacterial cell structural and if there is a fitness cost inferred by the resistance mechanisms. Finally, we studied combination therapy as an available option at hand for tackling infections caused by multidrug-resistant strains.List of scientific papersI. Hissa M.
