This paper describes the Colle Iano Hoard in terms of its place in the monetary circulation of its time and in the written sources.
In particular, the author examines the role of the Neapolitan carlini gigliati (to date the most numerous type of coin found in the hoard) in the Papal State
Author response to Colle et al
The event of pseudoprogression is rare in patients with MSI-high metastatic colorectal cancer receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors. In this response to the Letter to the Editor by Colle et al, we highlight that the timing of disease re-assessment may influence the incidence of pseudoprogression, with early assessments being associated with higher incidence. Such dynamics should be considered when interpreting the efficacy of treatment
A long-term forecasting and simulation model for strategic planning of hospital bed capacity
Growing healthcare needs leverage the potential savings of using resources efficiently. To that end, ProMoBed is a comprehensive model that supports strategic planning of bed capacity in inpatient hospitals. The model consists of an extrapolation and simulation component, the former supplying input for the latter. The extrapolation model forecasts admission rates and the average Length of Stay for pathology groups, and corrects for demographic changes. Subsequently, the simulation model emulates the demand for bed capacity, and makes service-level based bed capacity suggestions. Additionally, the model uses the Shapley value principle to disaggregate the effects on demand for inpatient days due to different causes. Results from the extrapolation model are applied to regions in Belgium, showing expected divergence in inpatient day demand evolution.(c) 2022 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier Ltd. Vaporization behaviour of a PuF3-containing fuel mixture for the Molten Salt Fast Reactor
The mixture LiF-ThF4-UF4-PuF3 (77.5–6.6-12.3–3.6 mol%), a fuel option for the Molten Salt Fast Reactor (MSFR), has been measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) for determination of phase transitions, and by Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry (KEMS) for measurement of partial vapour pressures. The boiling point of the mixture was determined by extrapolation of total vapour pressure to 1 bar. Thermodynamic calculations were performed and compared with the experimental results. Novel experimental data on pure plutonium trifluoride are presented: melting point, vaporization enthalpy, vapour pressure and ionization energies by electron impact.RST/Reactor Physics and Nuclear Material
The influence of hurricanes upon the quiet depositional conditions in the Lower Emsian La Vid shales of Colle (NW Spain)
The author supposes that the fossil content of thin carbonate units in the Upper La Vid shales (Lower Devonian) of Colle was influenced by heavy storms like hurricanes.
Apart from microplankton (Cramer, 1964) no fossils are found in the shales. Together with the very well developed fissility of the shales this points to abiotic conditions, probably caused by the lack of oxygen in the deposition area. Alterations, e.g. by storms, of the water circulation pattern in the basin destroyed this situation, and a pioneer fauna was able to develop. Sometimes storm debris, probably deposited by hurricanes, served as a substrate for larvae which settled in the area. Little by little the former situation of lack of oxygen returned and the communities died
Ineffectiveness of protamine zinc somatostatin as a long-acting inhibitor of insulin and growth hormone secretion
The present studies examined the duration of inhibitory action of a preparation of cyclic somatostatin (SRIF) in suspension with protamine zinc (PZ) on (1) physiologic growth hormone (GH) and immunoreactive insulin (IRI) secretion during feeding in the rat and (2) plasma IRI levels in a 10-year-old boy with idiopathic hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia. Chronically cannulated adult male rats were administered 250 μg PZ–SRIF subcutaneously twice daily at 12-h intervals for 7 days. Control animals received the PZ vehicle on the same schedule. On the test day, blood samples were obtained every 15 min for periods of 6 h following a single PZ–SRIF injection 1.5 h prior to sampling. Prominent GH secretory bursts were still evident in all PZ–SRIF-treated rats and these pulses occurred at the predictable time in relation to the light–dark cycle. Plasma IRI levels were typically elevated in response to feeding and no significant differences were observed in the mean 6-hGH, IRI, and glucose levels of PZ–SRIF-treated rats when compared with PZ-treated controls. In the boy with idiopathic hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia, subcutaneous injection of 200 μg PZ–SRIF depressed plasma IRI levels for only 30 min. These results suggest that PZ is not the agent of choice for significant prolongation of the inhibitory action of SRIF on IRI and GH secretion. </jats:p
