    Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a metabolic manifestation of liver disease, characterized by lipid accumulation in hepatocytes. Despite starting as a benign disorder, NAFLD can progress to more severe pathologies such as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and eventually hepatocellular carcinoma. The epidemiological prevalence of this disease is 25 % of the general population, and its worsening suggests that NAFLD is supposed to be the main cause for liver transplantation. NAFLD pharmacological treatment is still limited by unwanted side effects, whereas the best therapeutical approach is a lifestyle that depends on physical exercises and a healthy diet. The use of natural-derived compounds with therapeutic potential is advisable. Recently, medicinal plants applications have been focused on renewable sources as marine algae, especially seaweeds. Seaweeds are characterized with huge amounts of phytochemicals such as fucoidan (FUC) polysaccharide, which is known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and hepatoprotective effects. In the present work, we extracted a water soluble fucoidan fraction from the brown algae Cystoseira compressa, and for the first time from the roots of the terrestrial shrub Ferula hermonis. These fucoidan fraction were termed CYS and FER, respectively. Then together with a previously purified fucoidan from the terrestrial plant Eucalyptus globulus “EUC” were studied and compared for their chemical features and biological activities. CYS, FER, and EUC contained fucose, glucose, sulfate, smaller amounts of monosaccharides such as galactose and mannose, and a minor quantity of proteins. FUCs structural features were investigated by FTIR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The antioxidant properties of FUCs were measured by DPPH, ABTS and FRAP assays, results revealed a high radical scavenging capacity that was confirmed in in vitro cellular models. In hepatic and endothelial cells, FUC reduced ROS production induced by intracellular lipid accumulation. Moreover, in our NAFLD model that consists of hepatic and endothelial cells treated with a fatty acid mixture prior to the FUCs treatment, FUCs purified from the three vegetal species exhibited a significant antisteatotic action; being able to reduce intracellular triglyceride content and to regulate the expression of key genes of hepatic lipid metabolism. Altogether, our results candidate CYS, FER, and EUC as possible bioactive compounds against fatty liver disease and related vascular damage. Results indicated that among the purified FUCs, that purified from the terrestrial plant E. globulus was the most biologically active extract

    Declarative Entity Resolution Via Matching Dependencies and Combining Matching Dependencies With Machine Learning for Entity Resolution

    Entity resolution (ER) is an important problem in data cleaning. It is about iden- tifying and merging records in a database that represent the same external entity. Relatively recently, declarative rules called matching dependencies (MDs) have been proposed for specifying similarity conditions under which attribute values in database records are merged. An ER process supported by MDs over a dirty instance may lead to multiple clean instances.In this thesis, we first present disjunctive answer set programs that capture through their models the class of alternative clean instances obtained after an ER process based on MDs. With these programs, we can obtain clean answers to queries by skeptically reasoning from the program. As an important practical case of ER, we provide a declarative reconstruction of the so-called union-case ER methodology, as presented through a generic approach to ER, the so-called Swoosh approach. We extend our ASP-based account of the union-case of Swoosh with negative rules.In this work, we extend MDs to relational MDs, which capture more application semantics, and identify classes of relational MDs for which the proposed declarative specifications for ER via MDs can be automatically rewritten into stratified Datalog programs.We also show the process and the benefits of integrating four components of ER: (a) Building a classifier for duplicate/non-duplicate record pairs using machine learn- ing (ML) techniques; (b) Use of relational MDs for supporting the blocking phase of ML; (c) Record merging on the basis of the classifier results; and (d) The use of the declarative language LogiQL -an extended form of Datalog supported by the LogicBlox platform- for all activities related to data processing, and the specification and enforcement of MDs

    Re-visiting the Park: Reviving the “Cultural Park for Children” in Sayyeda Zeinab in the shadows of Social Sustainability

    This paper aims to question the level of success of one of Egypt’s contemporary architectural milestones which is the Aga-Khan Award-winning project of the Child Park in Sayyeda Zeinab - designed by the Egyptian architect Abdel-Halim Ibrahim; from a community participation perspective. Stemming from the fact that the level of successful community participation in architecture and urban design projects affects the sustainability of the added value, this paper tackles the current process of operation of the Park and the adjacent pedestrian street, as complementary aspects of a community participatory process, and evaluates the social sustainability of the project as well. The study sheds light on the operation of the park after twenty-eight years of the initiation of the project, it explores its functional and social role in the district of Sayyeda, located at the centre of Cairo city.In order to achieve this end, the paper adopts a two-fold methodology. Based on those two main research approaches, the paper concludes with a framework and several guidelines to enhance the social sustenance of the place through rephrasing the park’s role in relation to the changing needs of the community

    Abstract: Gastrointestinal tract has many important functions for critically ill patients especially it maintains immunological functions, decreases infection and promotes better survival rate. Several studies have confirmed that GI symptoms are frequent in the ICU with up to 62% of patients exhibiting at least one GI symptom for at least 1 day. Aim of the Study: This study was conducted to assess the incidence of Gastrointestinal Problems for critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. Materials and Methods: A descriptive exploratory design was utilized was used in this study. Setting the study was conducted at El-fayoum university hospital. The study subjects; A Purposive sample of 60 patients from both genders, with different ages and educational levels were selected for this study. Tools of the study consist of tool of the study consist of Two tools, tool(1) Patient Assessment sheet (2) Modified Gastrointestinal symptoms rating scale (GSRS). Results: A total 60 patients were enrolled in the study with mean age X¯ ± SD (52.40 ± 14.40) .also it was noted that 55.0% of the studied patients were male.it was found that (56.7%) of studied patients have mild gastrointestinal problems. While (1.67%) of the studied patient have severe gastrointestinal problems. Conclusion. About two thirds of studied patient were male, nonsmoker and give feed by oral method. Also neurological and respiratory problems were the majority of causes of ICU admission. Moreover, about more than half of the studied patients have mild gastrointestinal problems, while more than one third of them have moderate gastrointestinal problems (Abdominal pain, Constipation, Diarrhea, Reflux and distention).Recommendations: Replication of the study using a large probability samples acquired from different geographic areas. Incorporate abdominal massage as a routine care for critically ill patients receiving enteral feeding to relieve gastrointestinal problems.
