Variations on the Author
No full text“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

No full textDurante la pandemia del Covid-19, el mundo sufrió́ una de las peores crisis sanitarias y económicas de su historia. Las empresas que más se vieron afectadas por la crisis fueron en especial aquellas con alta concentración de cartera en créditos y bajos ratios de liquidez los cuales mostraban una dificultad financiera para poder seguir creciendo orgánicamente y continuar con sus operaciones.
Esta crisis conllevo a los gobiernos a tomar diferentes decisiones en cuanto a política monetaria para poder incentivar el consumo de los hogares y otros agentes económicos; dentro de estas medidas expansivas se encontraron reducciones de tasas de interés que fueron aprovechados por empresas solventes financieramente para poder fusionarse o adquirir (F&A) nuevas empresas. Estos procesos de fusiones y adquisiciones fueron tan utilizados durante la pandemia que rompieron los récords históricos. El objetivo principal de la investigación es determinar las causas del incremento de las fusiones y adquisiciones durante la pandemia por COVID-19. Para esto, se plantea un modelo de regresión Logit el busca determinar la causa analizando las siguientes variables: Ratio de liquidez, Prueba Acida, Deuda/Patrimonio, Interest Coverage, Tasas de interés y Cantidad de casos Covid-19.
Para tal fin, se realizó un análisis de los diferentes estados financieros, posteriormente se calcularon las razones financieras y se verificó su influencia con un análisis estadístico descriptivo y un modelo de regresión lineal que permite establecer su relación.
Finalmente, por medio de esta metodología se puede concluir que existe una relación entre el incremento de casos COVID-19 y el incremento en las operaciones de fusiones y adquisiciones influenciada por empresas con una posición financiera dominante las cuales adquirían empresas con problemas financieros, del mismo modo, estas empresas mejor posicionadas durante la pandemia se beneficiaron de las bajas tasas de interés en los mercados para poder apalancar sus operaciones de fusiones y adquisiciones.1. No full textJersey Homesteads (later the Borough of Roosevelt) was established in the 1930s as an agro-industrial cooperative community. It was established specifically for urban Jewish garment workers, many of whom had emigrated from Europe. President John F. Kennedy sent a telegram to the citizens of Roosevelt, New Jersey, apologizing for not being able to attend the memorial dedication in honor of former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. (Jersey Homesteads became Roosevelt in 1945 in honor of the president.) President Kennedy expressed his gratitude to the people of Roosevelt for constructing the memorial, and commented that it will serve as a constant reminder of Roosevelt's good works
