Statistical Reasoning of Impact of Motivation on Students’ Achievement in Foreign Language Learning
AbstractThis research focuses on statistical reasoning in motivation issues in learning a foreign language. The opinions of university students studying at different departments and taking a foreign language course have been investigated through 43 statements related to motivation issues in order to find out their opinions on motivation sources in general, classroom motivation sources and motivation problems that arise or they encounter during their foreign language studies. The responses of participants through all the statements were in very close line with each other, without revealing any significant difference. The relation between the participants achievement level in foreign language courses and motivation revealed contradiction as the respondents claim lack of motivation but have a achievement level over the minimum pass level. This result reveals that in terms of statistical reasoning there is a contradiction between negative motivation and positive achievement

Power as an emotional liablity: Implications for perceived authenticity and trust after a transgression
People may express a variety of emotions after committing a transgression. Through six
empirical studies and a meta-analysis, we investigate how the perceived authenticity of such
emotional displays and resulting levels of trust are shaped by the transgressor's power. Past
findings suggest that individuals with power tend to be more authentic, since they have more
freedom to act based on their own personal inclinations. Yet, our findings reveal that: a) a
transgressor’s display of emotion is perceived to be less authentic when that party’s power is
high rather than low, b) this perception of emotional authenticity, in turn, directly influences (and
mediates) the level of trust in that party, and c) perceivers ultimately exert less effort when asked
to make a case for leniency toward high rather than low power transgressors. This tendency to
discount the emotional authenticity of the powerful was found to arise from power increasing the
transgressor’s perceived level of emotional control and strategic motivation, rather than a host of
alternative mechanisms. These results were also found across different types of emotions
(sadness, anger, fear, happiness, and neutral), expressive modalities, operationalizations of the
transgression, and participant populations. Altogether, our findings demonstrate that besides the
wealth of benefits power can afford, it also comes with a notable downside. It, furthermore,
extends past research on perceived emotional authenticity, which has focused on how and when
specific emotions are expressed, by revealing how this perception can depend on considerations
that have nothing to do with the expression itself
Sectoral System of Innovation and Sources of Technological Change in Machinery Industry: An Investigation on Turkish Machinery Industry1
AbstractMachinery industry is the main sector in investment product sector. Therefore it has an strategic importance. Turkish machinery industry must have a technology policy to achieve competitiveness on a global level. This study, focus on the sectors which can produce and transfer technology and knowledge. Thus it is based on the basis of the sectoral system of innovation which can produce industry specific technology. In this study according to innovation activities 250 different scale firms data were collected using a questionnaire prepared by the Oslo Manual. Data were analyzed. And the results obtained from the data used for researching the level of technological capabilities of the sectors. Finally the sector's position in new technological developments such as Industry 4.0 was evaluated
Peride Celal’in Tiyatro Dünyasını Konu Alan Romanı: “Rüyalar Evi”
Between the years of 1935, from when she published her first story, and 2002, when she published her last novel Deli Ask, Peride Celal (Yonsel) was known as a unique writer with both the subjects she covered and her researcher identity in the art of novel writing. Peride Celal ' s writing career can be divided into two periods. During the first fifteen years of her writing career (1935-1950), she wrote popular works focusing on love and adventure in the category of romance, and with her novel Uc Kadinin Romani (1954), she entered her period of mastery, where her novel technique gained importance and she wrote more realistic and qualified works based on observation. Celal ' s early novels, which were serialized in periodicals before being published in book form, were effective in increasing the circulation of the daily newspapers in which they were published and helped in making the ' novel ' genre more appealing to the readers they reached. Peride Celal ' s success in narration with her clean and fluent Turkish, which is the most prominent feature of her novels, has been observed since her first novels. Nevertheless, Peride Celal did not adopt her first period novels, wrote with the concern of making a living and did not allow her works to be published in book form. The novel Ruyalar Evi (1951), which remains in the blind spot between the author ' s first and second period novels, is one of the works that the author does not want to remember. This novel, which has remained in the newspaper pages since the day it was published in the newspaper titled Cumhuriyet, has not been included in any academic studies on Peride Celal until today. In this novel, Peride Celal summarizes the developmental stages of Turkish Theater between the years of 1900 and1950 by examining the actors, directors and works, and by mentioning many classical, contemporary, and local and foreign plays along with stage artists. The two main characters of the work, Nemide Gencay and Ahmed Cem, are reminiscent of Neyyire Neyyir and Muhsin Ertugrul. The aim of this study is to determine the place of Ruyalar Evi among Peride Celal ' s novels in terms of its subject matter and mounting, and to ensure that the novel takes its rightful place in Turkish literature alongside novels that deal directly with the art of theater
DEVELOPING A SELF-EFFICACY SCALE TOWARD PHYSICS SUBJECTS FOR LOWER-SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Physics subjects or topics as a part of science education enable students to explore nature and natural events by using physics laws and scientific methods. In the lower-secondary school, physics is a subfield within the science curriculum developed holistically with the broad field curriculum design unlike the subject-centred curriculum in the upper-secondary education. As an important factor that directs the achievement, self-efficacy is one of the predecessors of these cognitive and affective skills. Accordingly, most of the scales which evaluate the students' cognitive or affective skills in the lower-secondary school are related to science course in a general context. This research aimed to develop a valid and reliable scale measuring the students' self-efficacy beliefs toward physics subjects for lower-secondary schools. The sample consists of 2737 students. The draft scale consisted of 52 items and was applied to 1882 students in the first stage. To construct validity of the scale, exploratory factor analysis was performed. The results showed that the scale consisted of single-factor with 28 items. To confirm its factor structure, the scale was applied to 785 students. The research findings indicate that the scale is a valid and reliable instrument to measure the self-efficacy beliefs towards physics subjects.Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University Scientific Research Projects Committee in Turkey [2016.02.02.1101]The research which supported by funding from the Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University Scientific Research Projects Committee in Turkey (Project Number: 2016.02.02.1101) was derived from first author's PhD dissertation conducted under the supervision of the second author
