Estudos Kantianos [EK] registers the passing of Dr. Clélia Aparecida Matins, a member of its Editorial Board, university lecturer and researcher in the Philosophy Department of the Faculty of Philosophy and Sciences of São Paulo State University, on the 15th of July p. p. An enthusiast of the activities carried out by the Centre of Kantian Research and Studies “Valerio Rohden” [CPEK], which is responsible for the EK project, Clélia Martins greatly collaborated with the Kant-Colloquia in Marília (also promoted by the same CPEK), which in her memory will henceforth be designated by Kant Colloquia “Clélia Martins”, starting with its next edition in August 2015. EK is grateful to Prof. Dr. Heiner Klemme for his text inmemory of Dr. Clélia Aparecida Martins

EK-DRD: A Comprehensive Database for Drug Repositioning Inspired by Experimental Knowledge

    No full text
Drug repositioning, or the identification of new indications for approved therapeutic drugs, has gained substantial traction with both academics and pharmaceutical companies because it reduces the cost and duration of the drug development pipeline and the likelihood of unforeseen adverse events. To date there has not been a systematic effort to identify such opportunities, in part because of the lack of a comprehensive resource for an enormous amount of unsystematic drug repositioning information to support scientists who could benefit from this endeavor. To address this challenge, we developed a new database, the Experimental Knowledge-Based Drug Repositioning Database (EK-DRD), by using text and data mining as well as manual curation. EK-DRD contains experimentally validated drug repositioning annotation for 1861 FDA-approved and 102 withdrawn small-molecule drugs. Annotation was done at four levels using 30 944 target assay records, 3999 cell assay records, 585 organism assay records, and 8889 clinical trial records. Additionally, approximately 1799 repositioning protein or target sequences coupled with 856 related diseases and 1332 pathways are linked to the drug entries. Our web-based software displays a network of integrative relationships between drugs, their repositioning targets, and related diseases. The database is fully searchable and supports extensive text, sequence, chemical structure, and relational query searches. EK-DRD is freely accessible at http://www.idruglab.com/drd/index.php

    Mobile Dwelling Unit

With the Mobile Dwelling Unit (MDU) project. LOT-EK proves that the possibilities of modular transformation are endless. A Mobile Dwelling Unit is created from a singular shipping container. Cuts in the metal container walls create easily expandable subunits, each encapsulating one living, working, or storage function. The MDU also takes standarized worldwide shipping into consideration, as each subunit can be packed into another, much like a Russian nesting doll. This transportable, modular, low-maintenance unit is perfect for an urban lifestyle with continuously changing needs. Made from recycled shipping containers.interio

Restoration of the 1936 Statewide Forest Survey of Minnesota

    No full text
Over 300 stand and stock tables and summary of volume tables for Minnesota were restored from the first FIA Lake States forest survey conducted between 1930 and 1938. The level of detail of the data varied, but included area of forest cover types and stand size classes, and number of trees and volumes per acre by individual species. The data was presented in an Access database with a series of tables and queries. Definitions and further explanations about the restored historic data can be found in Staff Paper Series No. 241, Department of Forest Resources, University of MinnesotaLong-term forest plot datasets have proven invaluable for understanding the changing conditions and ecology across Minnesota’s 17.3 million acres of forestland. Data from past and present USDA Forest Service (USFS) Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program efforts are of high quality and are informed by thousands of field plot observations for each survey. The aim of this study was to locate historic forest records for Minnesota, identify useful data, and develop methodologies for digitizing and restoring data to a usable format.Funding provided by the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund as recommended by the Legislative–Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources and the University of Minnesota’s College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resources Sciences Department of Forest Resources and the Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station under Project MIN 42-019. In addition, the USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station staff provided support.Flanary, Merril H; Anderson, Brian D; Wilson, David C; Ek, Alan R. (2016).
