Effects of the Th-substitution on the antiferromagnetic coupling and Kondo-like behaviour in the heavy-fermion system U14Au51
A detailed study of the pseudobinary phase (U1−xThx)14Au51 is reported. The stability of the complete solid solution with the hexagonal P6/m, Gd14Ag51 structural type was observed in the whole composition range. Magnetic susceptibility (1.5–300 K) and electrical resistivity (10–800 K) measurements are reported for a wide number of intermediate compositions. A quantitative analysis of the electrical resistivity data is used to estimate the Kondo-like contributions in all the examined phases. The results are discussed in terms of the coexistence of antiferromagnetic interactions and concentrated Kondo-like behaviour
