Ritz
Ritz è un progetto per l’installazione di un cinema all’aperto in un parco a Trento commissionato dall'Associazione culturale Numero Civico. L’opera, che non viene realizzata, viene riproposta da Marisaldi l’anno successivo con alcune varianti per il P.A.V. (Parco d’Arte Vivente) di Torino.
Il progetto, per cui l’artista immagina una collocazione in mezzo a un bosco, prevede la realizzazione di una facciata di cinema disegnata nero su bianco, su una quinta in muratura intonacata e verniciata di 4×3 metri (come spiega l’artista, “un grande foglio formato A4”). La facciata riecheggia un edifico di base liberty-decò con inserimento di elementi eclettici e si riferisce a un cinema visto dall’artista ad Antananarivo in Madagascar.
Nella “sala” si accede aggirando il muro, dietro al quale si trovano quattro sedute in cemento destinate a coprirsi di muschio.
Le sedute sono rivolte verso il paesaggio e non verso il muro, che diviene quinta e nasconde i presenti.Ritz is a project conceived for the installation of an outdoor movie theatre inside a park in Trento. The project, that was not realised, is proposed by the artist the following year with some changes for the P.A.V. (Parco d’Arte Vivente) of Turin.
The project, originally thought to be placed inside a wood, consists in the facade of a movie theatre outlined in black on a white background, on a 4 x 3 meters wing made of painted bricks (as the artist explains, “a big A4 paper sheet”).
The facade recalls a liberty-decò style building, with the introduction of eclectic elements, and it refers to a movie theatre the artist saw in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
To enter the theatre the audience needs to move around the wall, beyond which are placed four seats in concrete destined to be covered with moss.
The seats address the landscape instead of the wall, that therefore becomes a wing and hides the watchers

On the Convergence of Ritz Values, Ritz Vectors, and Refined Ritz Vectors
This paper concerns the Rayleigh--Ritz method for computing an approximation to an eigenpair (; x) of a non-Hermitian matrix A. Given a subspace W that contains an approximation to x, this method returns an approximation (; ~ x) to (; x). We establish four convergence results that hold as the deviation ffl of x from W approaches zero. First, the Ritz value converges to . Second, if the residual A~x \Gamma ~x approaches zero, then the Ritz vector ~ x converges to x. Third, we give a condition on the eigenvalues of the Rayleigh quotient from which the Ritz pair is computed that insures convergence of the Ritz vector. Finally, we show that certain refined Ritz vectors, introduced by the first author, converge unconditionally. The linear RF-Ritz method with local multiresolution refinement
LAUREA MAGISTRALENel presente lavoro di tesi, il metodo di Ritz alle Funzioni R (RF-Ritz) con raffinamento locale multirisoluzione viene sviluppato per arricchire localmente l'analisi statica di piastre con geometrie arbitrariamente complesse. La descrizione del comportamento delle piastre avviene mediante la teoria di deformazione a taglio del primo ordine (FSDT), abbinata alla teoria di laminazione deformabile al taglio (SDLT) per la descrizione delle sequenze di laminazione in composito. Le equazioni di equilibrio sono ricavate attraverso il principio di minimizzazione dell'energia potenziale totale. La teoria e gli aspetti implementativi vengono poi formulati per finestre di raffinamento totalmente incluse nel dominio o intersecanti il bordo di quest'ultimo. Le prestazioni del metodo vengono valutate con diverse modalità: innanzitutto, si effettua il confronto con soluzioni in forma chiusa per una piastra isotropa con un foro circolare soggetta a carichi nel piano. Successivamente, una topologia più complessa tratta dalla letteratura è studiata sotto due diverse casistiche, ma con le stesse condizioni di carico e al contorno: nel primo caso, si usa un materiale isotropo, e i valori ottenuti vengono comparati con quelli dell'articolo di riferimento. Poi, una laminazione quasi-isotropa è studiata, e il metodo agli elementi finiti (FEM) viene sfruttato per valutare la convergenza del metodo con differenti ordini di espansione. In tutti i casi, i risultati appaiono in buona concordanza con quelli di riferimento, limitando nel contempo il numero di gradi di libertà richiesti. Infine, viene proposta una formulazione modificata del classico metodo RF-Ritz basato sul principio di Hellinger-Reissner come una valida alternativa a quello presentato per consentire un migliore soddisfacimento delle condizioni al contorno naturali.In the present thesis work, the linear R-Functions Ritz (RF-Ritz) method with local multiresolution refinement is developed to locally enhance the static analysis of plates with arbitrarily complex geometries. The First-order Shear Deformation Theory (FSDT) is used to describe the behavior of plates, together with the Shear-Deformable Lamination Theory (SDLT) to describe composite layups. The equilibrium equations are obtained by means of the principle of minimum total potential energy. The theory and the implementation aspects are then formulated for refinement windows either fully comprised within the domain or intersecting the global boundary. The performance of the method is assessed by different means: first, a comparison against analytical solutions is conducted for an isotropic plate with a circular cutout subjected to in-plane loading. Then, a more complex domain available from literature is studied under two different scenarios presenting the same loading and boundary conditions: in the first one, an isotropic material is considered, and the obtained values are compared to those of the reference work. Then, a quasi-isotropic composite layup is considered, and the Finite Elements Method (FEM) is exploited to evaluate the convergence of the methodology under different expansion orders. In all cases, results proved to be in good agreement with the reference values, while, at the same time, limiting the number of required degrees of freedom. Finally, a modified formulation of the classical RF-Ritz method based on the Hellinger-Reissner's principle is proposed as a possible alternative to the present one to allow for improved satisfaction of natural boundary conditions

By 1980 it was threatened to be demolished in order to build a parking lot. Rescued by philanthropists who set out to restore the theatre. They ran out of money in 1989. In 1994 it was purchased by George Castro, who restored it to its 1920's grandeur and used it as a performing arts center. It changed hands once again in 2014, this time to an owner who's experienced in rejuvenating older performing arts theaters and giving them the boost they need to continue hosting all different types of events from concerts, dance recitals to weddings to corporate events.Original file name The Ritz Theater 2.jp
