No full textMaterials and methods. Three main international databases (PubMed, Embase and Scopus) were consulted to retrieve relevant articles on this issue.Results and conclusions. Several oral conditions may appear as "white lesions" on oral mucosa, without necessarily being referred to leukoplakia, nor associated to a higher risk of malignant transformation. Clinicians are therefore expected to formulate appropriate differential diagnoses as well as to manage these patients. The most complex cases will be referred to oral medicine specialists and explanations will be given as to the nature of leukoplakia and the relevant treatment options, currently still under debate in the international scientific community.Objectives. Oral leukoplakia is a quite frequent lesion of the oral mucosa, easily detectable during dental practice. The World Health Organization includes this condition among potentially malignant disorders, exposing patients to a significant risk of developing oral cancer. The purpose of the present monograph is to provide the dentist with the necessary tools for proper diagnosis and management of patients affected by leukoplakia

Aim of this paper is to offer to the dental practitioner an easy reference guide concerning the possible adverse drug reactions affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. In addition the authors report the most employed drugs in Italy and their potential interactions with the medications commonly prescribed by dentists i.e. antibiotics and NSAIDs.
Material and methods
Scientific databases, formularies and pharmacological text-books have been investigated.
Results and conclusions
Adverse drug reactions and interactions between drugs should be really considered to drive a safe and helpful management of patients, also by dental practitioners. All the most prescribed medications in Italy can cause oral adverse reactions or their effect may be modified by the concomitant use of antibiotics and NSAIDs. The clinicians must collect a complete patients’ medical history before planning any pharmacological treatment and be careful in case of not well diagnosable oral conditions
Iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome and topical steroid therapy : case series and review of the literature
No full textTopical corticosteroids are considered first-line therapy in patients with chronic inflammatory oral mucosal diseases; among them, clobetasol propionate is one of the most widely used in oral medicine. Under physiological conditions, the transmucosal application is characterized by a significantly greater absorption than the skin application. Contrary to many publications about the side effects of topical corticosteroids in dermatology, few studies have investigated the systemic effects due to local application of these drugs on oral mucosa. Although topical steroid therapy for the management of oral diseases is generally associated with local adverse effects (candidiasis, stomatopyrosis, and hypogeusia), these drugs can also lead to systemic side effects, such as suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and Cushing's syndrome. This review reports five cases of systemic adverse effects caused by clobetasol propionate topical treatment

Aim of this paper is to describe the main adverse drug reactions in the oral cavity summing up data reported in the scientific literature.
Material and methods
The scientific databases PuBmed, EmBase e Scopus have been investigated in order to collect relevant reports.
Results and conclusions
None medications can be considered free of side effects. Many of the adverse drug reactions can affect the oral cavity thus involving the dental practitioner first. The clinician must be able to recognize and treat the possible oral drug complications and before planning any pharmacological treatment he should carefully consider risk factors such as age, sex, medical history, genetic predisposing pattern, previous adverse drug reactions
