    Validation of the Social Satisfaction Questionnaire for outcome evaluation in substance use disorders

    Aims and method: To develop a scale to measure social satisfaction in people with substance use disorders and to test its psychometric properties. The rationale is that social satisfaction is more universal and relevant to treatment planning than assessing social problems. The new Social Satisfaction Questionnaire (SSQ) was derived from an existing social problems questionnaire and validation was undertaken on two large clinic populations. Results: An eight-item SSQ was tested and found to have good psychometric properties in terms of test-retest reliability, internal consistency, distribution of responses and concurrent validity. Clinical implications: The SSQ is suitable for use as the social domain element of an outcome measures package

    In 2015, Rutgers became only the second accredited law school in the United States to select the open-source ILS, Koha. The merger of two unique catalogs at Rutgers Law School has presented unique challenges with respect to migration mapping, data recall for large records, and relevancy ranking, all of which affect search results and usability of the OPAC. System migrations always result in some data being lost or incorrectly transferred. The hope is to minimize just how much data is compromised while fixing errors that might not have come to light but for the migration.Peer reviewe

The Denver Quarterly remarked on her interest in seeing doubly and double-talking and praised her passionate intelligence and affection for the tongue\u27s intimate intricacies. McHugh\u27s Thursday evening reading will conclude the 1981 Literary Festival. McHugh grew up in Williamsburg and now teaches at the State University of New York at Binghamton. She is a member of the board of directors of the Associated Writing Programs

    Supplementary material - Long-term, dynamic remodelling of the corticotroph transcriptome and excitability after a period of chronic stress

    Chronic stress results in long-term dynamic changes at multiple levels of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis resulting in stress axis dysregulation with long term impacts on human and animal health. However, the underlying mechanisms and dynamics of altered of HPA axis function, in particular at the level of pituitary corticotrophs, during a period of chronic stress and in the weeks after its cessation (defined as “recovery”) are very poorly understood. Here we address the fundamental question of how a period of chronic stress results in altered anterior pituitary corticotroph function and whether this persists in recovery, as well as the transcriptomic changes underlying this. We demonstrate that in mice spontaneous and corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH)—stimulated electrical excitability of corticotrophs, essential for ACTH secretion, is suppressed for weeks-months of recovery following a period of chronic stress. Surprisingly, there are only modest changes in the corticotroph transcriptome during the period of stress but major alterations occur in recovery. Importantly, while transcriptional changes for a large proportion of mRNAs follow the time course suppression of corticotroph excitability, many other genes display highly dynamic transcriptional changes with distinct time courses throughout recovery. Taken together, this suggests that chronic stress results in complex dynamic transcriptional and functional changes in corticotroph physiology, which are highly dynamic for weeks following cessation of chronic stress. These insights provide a fundamental new framework to further understand underlying molecular mechanisms as well approaches to both diagnosis and treatment of stress-related dysfunction of the HPA axis

    · The Texas High School Project (THSP) was created in 2003 as a public-private alliance to support education reform across the state. · This article focuses on the pivotal role of philanthropy within the THSP alliance to create early college high schools (ECHS). · The model has been scaled at different levels to produce direct, affordable pathways for students to both attend college and attain skilled careers. · The ECHS schools have higher test scores, greater credits earned, and reduced dropouts rates compared to traditional schools. · Foundations with a track record for supporting successful work can increase the overall commitment to joint projects and attract additional members and support to an alliance. · Lessons for successful partnerships include investing in time together, managing the partnership through one organization, and using data for decision-making
