The Routledge Handbook of Sport Management is the most up-to-date and comprehensive guide to theory and practice in sport management ever published. It provides students and scholars with a broad ranging survey of current thinking in contemporary sport management, exploring best practice in core functional areas and identifying important future directions for new research. Key topics covered in the book include: managing performance marketing human resource management the economics and finance of sport strategy managing change governance of sports organizations customer relations branding and retail. With contributions from leading scholars and professionals from around the world, the book illustrates the global nature of contemporary sport business and highlights the opportunities and challenges for managers operating in an international market place. Representing a definitive survey of contemporary issues in sport management, this is an essential reference for all students, scholars and practitioners working in sport. No Full Tex

    Doyle Seminars 2013-2014 Annual Report

    No full text
The Doyle Seminars engage students and faculty in a conversation about national, social, cultural, religious, moral, and other forms of diversity and difference across a range of academic disciplines and global contexts. The seminars aim to develop the students’ research, analysis, and writing skills through the completion of a sustained and in-depth research project. The Doyle Seminar faculty structure classroom opportunities to critically engage complex problems and dialogue with others in a free and candid exchange of ideas from a variety of perspectives. Faculty also develop class time activities that allow for interaction between students and thought leaders and practitioners. The guest experts share their perspectives on critical issues and provide feedback on student research. Over the last seven years, over 400 students have taken one of 32 Doyle Seminars, and courses have covered a wide range of topics across schools and disciplines. This 2013-2014 annual report documents a representative sampling of the research projects completed across this past year’s Doyle seminars.https://s3.amazonaws.com/berkley-center/DoyleSeminarsAnnualReport20132014.jp

Shock tube study of JP-10 ignition delay time

    No full text
JP-10 (exo-tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene, C10H16) ignition delay times were measured in a preheated shock tube. The vapor pressures of the JP-10 were measured directly by using a high-precision vacuum gauge, to remedy the difficulty in determining the gaseous concentrations of heavy hydrocarbon fuel arising from the adsorption on the wall in shock tube experiments. The whole variation of pressure and emission of the OH or CH radicals were observed in the ignition process by a pressure transducer and a photomultiplier with a monochromator. The emission of the OH or CH radicals was used to identify the time to ignition. Experiments were performed over the pressure range of 151-556 kPa, temperature range of 1000-2100 K, fuel concentrations of 0.1%-0.55% mole fraction, and stoichiometric ratios of 0.25, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0. The experimental results show that for the lower and higher temperature ranges, there are different dependency relationships of the ignition time on the temperature and the concentrations of JP-10 and oxygen

Dynamics of Network Formation Processes in the Co-Author Model

    No full text
This article studies the dynamics in the formation processes of a mutual consent network in game theory setting: the Co-Author Model. In this article, a limited observation is applied and analytical results are derived. Then, 2 parameters are varied: the number of individuals in the network and the initial probability of the links in the network in its initial state. A simulation result shows a finding that is consistent with an analytical result for a state of equilibrium while it also shows different possible equilibria.Dynamics, Network, Game Theory, Model,Simulation, Equilibrium, Complexity

An equivalent formulation of the Fan-Raspaud Conjecture and related problems

    No full text
In 1994, it was conjectured by Fan and Raspaud that every simple bridgeless cubic graph has three perfect matchings whose intersection is empty. In this paper we answer a question recently proposed by Mkrtchyan and Vardanyan, by giving an equivalent formulation of the Fan-Raspaud Conjecture. We also study a possibly weaker conjecture originally proposed by the first author, which states that in every simple bridgeless cubic graph there exist two perfect matchings such that the complement of their union is a bipartite graph. Here, we show that this conjecture can be equivalently stated using a variant of Petersen-colourings, we prove it for graphs having oddness at most four and we give a natural extension to bridgeless cubic multigraphs and to certain cubic graphs having bridges

Sulfur ylides generated from the reaction of arylchlorocarbenes with trimethylenesulide: determination of rate parameters by laser flash photolysis

    No full text
Reaction of arylchlorodiazirines with trimethylenesulfide gives a mixture of aryldi(3-chloropropyl)thioacetal and aryl(2-propenyl)(3-chloropropyl)thioacetal in a good yield. The reaction goes through a formation of a sulfur ylide as an intermediate. Rate constants have been determined using laser flash photolytic techniques. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. Investigating consumer preferences and perceptions of brands across men’s and women’s sport: a brand architecture approach

    No full text
Understanding consumers’ perceptions of sport brands has received widespread scholarly attention, however most of this work has focused on men’s sport. The current research considers brand architecture to examine the preferences, perceptions and attitudinal loyalty of individuals who support men’s and women’s professional sport. We explore if, and to what extent, consumer-based brand association perceptions attached to men’s and women’s teams within the same club vary. Data were collected using an online survey from Australian consumers who indicated following a men’s and women’s league (N = 525). Almost half (N = 231) followed the same team across men’s and women’s sport and in each case the brands used by these teams were the same. Confidence interval and Random Forest analyses determined if consumers’ perceived brand associations differently across their favourite men’s and women’s teams, and the importance of the brand association sets to attitudinal loyalty in each case. Results indicated the brand association sets possessed similar predictive power for attitudinal loyalty in the men’s (55%) and women’s (51%) contexts, and the same five brand associations (emotions, socialisation, esteem, nostalgia, and escape) emerged as the most important across both. Results outline the utility of a branded house approach to achieve brand selection, whilst demonstrating the need to manage brand extensions as distinct entities. Findings extend past work by examining consumer patterns across men’s and women’s sport concurrently, and by exploring respondent gender differences. These findings have implications for sport organisations pursuing brand extensions more broadly in an increasingly entrepreneurial and global market, as well as practitioners managing multi-brand portfolios. No Full Tex

A retrospective review of strong opioid use in the last 6 days of life of patients with HIV/AIDS or cancer at the in-patients unit of St. Francis Hospice

    No full text
Bibliography: leaves 101-108.The study was prompted by nursing concern at St Francis Hospice that, in HIV-positive patients, the use of opioids for symptom-control may shorten life, while I felt that pain was not recognized and therefore analgesia was withheld until the HIV-positive patients were close to their natural death. Objective: To compare pain control and sedation practices for terminally ill patients with HIV or cancer
