Semantic pattern discovery in open information extraction
Open information extraction (OpenIE) is a novel paradigm that produces structured information from unstructured text with minimum or no supervision. The task involves extracting relevant relation tuples or expressions from a text corpus. Existing methods in the domain tend to produce a large percentage of ill-structured, incomplete or redundant extractions which cannot be directly used in downstream applications, and often fail on sentences with long and complex structures. In this paper, we propose a novel semantic pattern-discovery for OpenIE (SemPatIE) framework which extracts relations in the form of typed textual pattern structures, called meta patterns and groups semantically similar pattern structures. To perform these tasks, the framework uses three techniques: (1) it simplifies complex sentence structures by performing a context-aware sentence segmentation method which splits the dependency graph of sentences at noun or verb level and enables pattern extraction between distantly placed entities; (2) it extracts meta patterns and handles its pattern sparsity problem by introducing a novel idea of iterative frequent pattern mining and nested push-ups; (3) it generates semantic pattern clusters by embedding a multi text-based network between entities, entity types, extracted meta patterns and context words. Experiments show SemPatIE outperforms state-of-the-art OpenIE baselines in handling structurally complex sentences and has a significantly higher recall than existing pattern-based methods. Case studies exhibit the framework's high generalization ability and scalabilty, and effective clustering performance which has direct applications in downstream tasks like knowledge graph construction, evidence mining and truth finding.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I Access', the embargo will last until 2022-05-01The student, Aabhas Chauhan, accepted the attached license on 2020-05-12 at 17:23.The student, Aabhas Chauhan, submitted this Thesis for approval on 2020-05-12 at 17:30.This Thesis was approved for publication on 2020-05-13 at 14:47.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #15369 on 2020-08-25 at 17:31:19Made available in DSpace on 2020-08-26T23:58:49Z (GMT). Malpositioning of Central Venous Catheter : Two Case Reports
Malpositioning of central venous catheter inserted into subclavian vein is a known and dreaded complication. Malpositioning of catheter tip into contralateral subclavian is an extremely unusual occurrence. The author describes two cases, one of subclavian central venous catheter and another of a peripherally inserted central catheter, in which the catheter malpositioned into contralateral subclavian vein

Labiogingival groove: A rare developmental tooth anomaly
Labiogingival groove is a congenital morphologic dental anomaly, in which an infolding of the inner enamel epithelium and Hertwig's epithelial root sheath create a groove extending varying depth into root. Epithelial attachment can be breached by gingival irritation secondary to plaque accumulation creating a periodontal defect that spreads to the pulp causing primary periodontal/secondary endodontic. A 12-year-old boy reported with the complaint of painful tooth with pus discharge from labial gingival surface in the maxillary right lateral incisor for 4 months. Intraoral examination revealed bluish red gingiva with loss of contour in relation to maxillary right lateral incisor and purulent discharge in relation to it. A provisional diagnosis of localized gingival abscess in relation to maxillary right incisor (primary periodontic and secondary endodontic involvement) was given, and required treatment was carried out. On exposure of the involved tooth, a labiogingival groove was noticed which could have been a contributing factor for the progression of the condition
Effect of different intracoronal bleaching methods on shear bond strength of ceramic brackets bonded to bleached enamel: An in-vitro study
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of different intracoronal bleaching methods on the shear bond strength and site of failure of ceramic brackets.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty freshly extracted human maxillary incisors were randomly divided into four groups (n = 15). Endodontic access cavity was prepared and root canals were filled, root fillings were removed 2mm apical to the cementoenamel junction, and a 2-mmthick layer of glass ionomer cement base was applied. Group 1 served as the control. Intracoronal bleaching was performed with 35% carbamide peroxide in group 2, sodium perborate in group 3, and 37.5% hydrogen peroxide in group 4. The teeth were immersed in artificial saliva for 4 weeks before bracket bonding. Ceramic brackets were bonded with composite resin and cured with LED light. After bonding, the shear bond strength of the brackets was tested with a universal testing machine. The site of bond failure was determined by modified ARI (Adhesive Remnant Index).
RESULTS: The highest value of shear bond strength was measured in control group (18.67 ± 1.59 MPa), which was statistically significant from groups 2,3, and 4. There was no significant difference between groups 2 and 4. The lowest shear bond strength was measured in group 3. ARI scores were not significant from each other.
CONCLUSIONS: Intracoronal bleaching significantly affected the shear bond strength of ceramic brackets even after 4 weeks of bleaching. Bleaching with sodium perborate affects shear bond strength more adversely than does bleaching with other agents like hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide
Comparison of clinical outcomes following CuT-380A insertion in postplacental period with interval insertion
Background: Postplacental intra-uterine device has many benefits like providing contraception immediately after childbirth, non-interference with lactation and high efficacy. However, concerns about its safety have led to decreased use of this method of contraception. Hence, this study aims to compare the complication rates following insertion of immediate postplacental IUCD (PPIUCD) with interval insertion. Methods: This is a prospective study conducted under the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in PGIMER, Chandigarh. 196 women were included in the study. Women were divided in two groups, those who were inserted with immediate postplacental IUCD versus those who had IUCD insertion in interval period. The two groups were followed up for a period of 6 months and complications were recorded. The PPIUCD group was further subdivided into 2 subgroups based on mode of delivery, vaginal delivery and caesarean section. These PPIUCD subgroups were also compared. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of pelvic pain, infection, abnormal uterine bleeding and expulsion between the PPIUCD and interval group. However, when the PPIUCD subgroups were compared, it was seen that no woman in caesarean section subgroup had expulsion of IUCD whereas 9.8% women had expulsion in the vaginal delivery PPIUCD subgroup. Conclusions: Postplacental and interval IUCD seem to be comparable for the incidence of various complications. However, intra-caesarean PPIUCD insertion seems to have a much lower expulsion rate as compared to vaginal delivery PPIUCD insertion.</jats:p

Twenty-year review of author characteristics and academic articles published in a medical student journal
All issues of the NZMSJ published prior to 2024 were retrospectively reviewed. Academic article characteristics and author demographics were described using counts and proportions. Characteristics were compared between the first and second decades of NZMSJ publication. For Issue 26 to Issue 36, journal metrics were also obtained. There were 144 academic articles published in the NZMSJ between 2004 and 2023. First authors tended to be medical students (74%), in
their clinical years of medical school (56%), and from local universities (72%). There was a decline in the proportion of articles authored by preclinical students (from 25% to 6%) and with University of Otago affiliation (from (59% to 28%) when comparing the first and second decades of NZMSJ publication. Most articles had a single author (67%), were academic essays (38%), and were on a medical topic (58%). The median time between submission and acceptance was 3 months (IQR 2-6 months)
