Explorations of electric-current system in solar active regions .1. Empirical inferences of the current flows
In this paper we explore techniques to identify sources of electric current systems and their channels of flow in solar active regions. Measured photospheric vector magnetic fields (VMF) together with high-resolution white-light and H filtergrams provide the data base to derive the current systems in the photosphere and chromosphere. Simple mathematical constructions of fields and currents are also adopted to understand these data. As an example, the techniques are then applied to infer current systems in AR 2372 in early April 1980. The main results are: (i) In unipolar sunspots the current density may reach values of 103 CGSE, and the Lorentz force on it can accelerate the Evershed flow, (ii) Spots exhibiting significant spiral pattrn in the penumbral filaments are the sources of vertical major currents at the photospheric surface, (iii) Magnetic neutral lines where the transverse field was strongly sheared were channels along which strong current system flows, (iv) The inferred current systems produced oppositely-flowing currents in the area of the delta configuration that was the site of flaring in AR 2372
Odd harmonics with wavelength modulation spectroscopy for recovering gas absorbance shape
In this paper, a new method for recovering gas absorbance shape using wavelength modulation spectroscopy is proposed. We have mathematically proven that the gas absorbance shape can be directly recovered using the data of X and Y components of odd harmonics, regardless of the value of the modulation depth. The transitions of NH3 near 1531 nm are selected to recover the absorbance shape using numerical simulation and experimental technique. The simulation and experiment results show that our proposed method can simply and accurately recover the gas absorbance shape

An ELT fully idempotent ring is a regular ring whose simple left (or right) modules are either injective or projective. Artinian rings are characterized in terms of Noetherian rings. Strongly regular rings and rings whose two-sided ideals are generated by central idempotents are characterized in terms of special annihilators. Determination of the structures of four new isomeric cyclitols
A series of impurities, which were all of the same molecular formula, C17H33NO7, were obtained in the process of voglibose synthesis. After isolation and purification, four isomeric cyclitols were completely assigned by 2D NMR experiments. One of the compounds was established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis as 5,6-dideoxy-5-{[2-hydroxy-1-(hydroxymethyl)ethyl]amino}-1-C-(methoxycycl ohexylmethyl)-D-epi-inositol. Public perception of the appropriateness of COVID-19 management strategies and level of disturbances in daily activities: A focus on educational level
Background This study investigated the association between public perception of the appropriateness of management strategies implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic and the level of disturbances in daily activities reported by the general population. Methods This cross-sectional study used Korea Community Health Survey conducted from August to November 2020. Public perception of COVID-19 management strategies included those implemented by the government (central, city or provincial, and administrative districts), the mass media, regional medical institutions, and neighbors. The subjective level of disturbances in daily activities was measured using a 0–100 numeric rating scale developed by Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. Multivariable linear regression analysis was used. A subgroup analysis was conducted based on education level. Results The present study analyzed 211,353 participants. Compared to individuals who perceived that the management strategies implemented during the pandemic was ‘highly appropriate,’ those who reported ‘mediocre appropriateness’ (β: -1.96, p-value: <0.001) or ‘low appropriateness’ (β: -3.60, p-value: 0.010) reported higher levels of subjective disturbances. The appropriateness of measures implemented by the mass media was associated with levels of subjective disturbances felt by individuals of lower education with statistical significance, whereas that applied by the mass media and the government were important in those with higher education. Conclusions The findings suggest the importance of public perception of management strategies when implementing containment policies and minimizing its disturbances on daily lives is essential. © 2023 Ju et al. Three novel sesterterpenes,
peniroquesines A–C, possessing
an 5–6–5–6–5-fused pentacyclic ring system,
were isolated from the fungus Penicillium roqueforti YJ-14 by solid fermentation. Their structures were initially investigated
in detail by NMR spectra and HR-ESI-MS and were further confirmed
by chemical reaction experiments as well as by X-ray analysis. Furthermore,
a plausible biosynthetic pathway was investigated by isotope-labeling

Chemical constituents from the roots of Schnabelia tetradonta
The new rearranged-abietane diterpene 1, the four new triterpenoids 2 - 5, and the new aminoethylphenyl oligoglycoside 6, besides 19 known compounds, were isolated from the roots of Schnabelia tetradonta, a Chinese endemic herb.
