Constructing robust digital identity infrastructure for future networked society
Identity fraud has become one of major concerns for broad communities. The new information era needs a new digital identity infrastructure to support next generation Internet. This article suggests a hierarchical structure for digital identities. We define and classify all digital identities into three broad categories: Object, People and Organization. This paper is the first to systematically address the classification of digital identities. More and more individuals and communities heavily rely on the network. Many countries are trying their own digital identity initiatives, like E-passport, national smart card, etc. This article intends to initiate a discussion on a universal digital identity infrastructure for our future. We believe that in the near future all paper-based identities will be replaced by digital identities. A robust digital identity infrastructure will take a vital role in the future information age
Digital identity enrolment and assurance support for VeryIDX
This paper contributes to build a quantitative approach for digital identity assurance. We propose to use a hierarchical structure level to define the assurance level, taking weighted affiliation information into consideration for assurance level; thus creating a more practical assurance supporting model is designed for any digital identities. In this paper we describe a concept for a digital identity platform that substantially goes beyond common concepts providing authentication services. Instead, the notion of digital identity 3.0 empowers people to decide who creates, updates, reads and deletes their data, and to bring their own data into interactions with organisations, governments and peers. To the extent that the user allows, this data is updated and expanded based on automatic, integrated and predictive learning, enabling trusted third party providers (e.g., retailers, banks, public sector) to proactively provide services. Consumers can also add to their digital identity desired meta-data and attribute values allowing them to design their own personal data record and to facilitate individualised experiences. We discuss the essential features of digital identity 3.0, reflect on relevant stakeholders and outline possible usage scenarios in selected industries
Mining digital identity insights: patent analysis using NLP
The field of digital identity innovation has grown significantly over the last 30 years, with over 6000 technology patents registered worldwide. However, many questions remain about who controls and owns our digital identity and intellectual property and, ultimately, where the future of digital identity is heading. To investigate this further, this research mines digital identity patents and explores core themes such as identity, systems, privacy, security, and emerging fields like blockchain, financial transactions, and biometric technologies, utilizing natural language processing (NLP) methods including part-of-speech (POS) tagging, clustering, topic classification, noise reduction, and lemmatisation techniques. Finally, the research employs graph modelling and statistical analysis to discern inherent trends and forecast future developments. The findings significantly contribute to the digital identity landscape, identifying key players, emerging trends, and technological progress. This research serves as a valuable resource for academia and industry stakeholders, aiding in strategic decision-making and investment in emerging technologies and facilitating navigation through the dynamic realm of digital identity technologies
Sensing digital co-presence and digital identity: Visualizing the Bluetooth landscape of the City of Bath
The impact of ubiquitous digital technologies on the analysis and synthesis of our urban environment is undoubtedly great. The urban topography is overlaid by an invisible, yet very tangible digital topography that is increasingly affecting our urban life. As W. J. Mitchell (Mitchell 2005) pointed out, the digital revolution has filled our world with electronic instruments of displacement that embed the virtual in the physical, and weave it seamlessly into daily urban life. The mobile phone, the most integrated mobile device is closely related to the notion of a digital identity, our personal identity on this digital space. The Bluetooth is the mainly used direct communication protocol between mobile phones today and in this scope, each device has its own unique ID, its MAC address. This paper investigates the potential use of recording and analysing Bluetooth enabled devices in the urban scale in understanding the interrelation between the physical and the digital topographies

isso ao uso do Cartão de Cidadão Electrónico Nacional Português e a outros
meios de autenticação públicos usados diariamente pelos utilizadores. A
dissertação é composta pela apresentação do conceito de identidade e das
suas particularidades, por uma análise aos vários problemas da gestão da
informação pessoal online, uma análise aos vários modelos, mecanismos e
especificações existentes para gerir a identidade digital online (gestão de
identidade digital). Uma solução de gestão de identidade digital baseada no
modelo de identidade federada e associada ao Cartão do Cidadão Electrónico
Nacional Português é apresentada, descrita, analisada, avaliada e comparada
com outras soluções existentes.
Por fim um protótipo de um provedor de identidades digitais federadas
baseado na solução de gestão de identidade digital proposta é apresentado.The following text provides a solution for the digital identity management on the
Web regarding the users’ versatility, anonymity, privacy, veracity,
trustworthiness and accountability by using the Portuguese National Electronic
Citizen Identity Card and other publicly available authentication mechanisms
users use daily. The dissertation consists of the presentation of the concept of
identity and its particularities, an analysis to the several problems of managing
personal information online, and an analysis to the several existing models,
mechanisms and specifications for the management of the digital identity online
(digital identity management). A solution for digital identity management based
on the federated identity model and associated to the Portuguese National
Electronic Citizen Identity Card is introduced, described, analyzed, evaluated
and compared to other several existing solutions. Last, a prototype of a
federated digital identity provider based on the purposed solution for digital
identity management is presented

More and more learners tend to utilise e-learning as their learning platform. The privacy of the users’ digital identities of e-learning has become a big concern. This paper proposes a new approach, which can effectively protect the privacy of e-learning users ’ digital identity. Through the approach, a unique alias represents the real e-learning user to communicate with each other. Managing Blockchain Based Digital Identity for Payment System
Online technology has transformed how people pay and utilise various services; payment methods that are mobile, fast, efficient, and secure have become basic needs. However the current usage of digital identity implementation in payment services faces several data vulnerability. Therefore, a revolution in digital identity is needed, such as utilizing the blockchain-based digital identity. However, literature in blockchain-based digital identity specifically used for the government’s payment ecosystem is still limited. Most blockchain research in the financial field focuses on the transactional part and mostly researching the technology on how it can enable the self-sovereign identity. None have discussed how blockchain-based digital identity can impact the payment system and examine its socio-technical changes within the ecosystem. Therefore, this study aims to fill the gap before governments can implement the technology by identifying the suitable type of blockchain architecture for the payment ecosystem, its impact on the current payment ecosystem and stakeholders, and finally, how the system will be governed. The case study of this research based on the perspective of Indonesia because of its growth in digital payment ecosystem. This research contributes in identifying high-level requirements to develop a blockchain-based digital identity based on the needs of the relevant actors and the scope of the payment ecosystem. Furthermore, this study reflects that implementing a blockchain-based identity in an established ecosystem is a complex task, not merely an IT project but also a change in the whole ecosystem. Digital Identity: an emergent legal concept
This is the first full-length study of digital identity in a transactional context, from a legal perspective. Clare Sullivan's analysis reveals the emergence of a distinct, new legal concept of identity. This concept is particularly clear under a national identity scheme such as the United Kingdom and Indian schemes. However, its emergence is evident even in jurisdictions, like Australia, which do not have a formal national identity scheme. Much of the analysis can also be extrapolated to proprietary schemes such as those run by banks and other businesses.
An individual’s digital identity which is used for transactional purposes has crucial functions which give it legal personality. The author argues that an individual’s digital identity also has the characteristics of property which can, and should, be legally protected. Identity theft is defined using the emergent concept and the study shows that digital identity is property which capable of actually being stolen and criminally damaged.
The study examines the emergence of attendant legal rights and duties including a new right to digital identity and its legal protection. Dr Sullivan argues that an individual has the right to an accurate, functional digital identity and shows that this right exists in addition to the right to privacy.
Dr Sullivan maintains that, considering the essentially public nature of identity, the right to identity provides better, and more appropriate, protection than is afforded by the right to privacy. She asserts that the importance of the right to identity in this context has been obscured by the focus on privacy in international legal scholarship and jurisprudence.
The functions and legal nature of digital identity are analysed using real examples which highlight the implications for individuals, businesses and government. The findings have the potential to fundamentally change the way digital identity is legally and commercially regarded
