No full textIn her article Desai\u27s Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard as Global Literature Erin M. Fehskens argues that scholars readily recognize Kiran Desai\u27s Booker Prize winning second novel The Inheritance of Loss as world literature following David Damrosch\u27s and Franco Moretti\u27s notions. However, Desai\u27s first novel Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard is often overlooked. Although Hullabaloo\u27s focus is narrow and local, its allegorical implications encode the processes of globalization and resistance to it into the novel. Thus, the novel can be read as an example of global literature, which uses the discontinuous nature of allegory to critique the de-differentiating practices of globalization and the specter of difference that accompanies these practices. Desai uses the return of Coca-Cola to India to illustrate the effects of multinational companies on the social and ecological landscapes of the Global South

No full textRosa Luxemburg's critique of Marx's Schemes of Reproduction is the only genuinely immanent critique of Marxian dynamics. But it needs to be brought up to date. To this end, in this paper it is placed in the context of more modern discussions of dual instability, in order to gain a better understanding of the role of price - as against quantity - adjustment in tackling instability. This allows us to discuss the path of prices as well as of quantities which have been the sole subject of controversy hitherto. Our approach also allows us to tackle the money circuit of capital parallel to the value circuit as outlined in the first part of Capital Vol 2.Rosa Luxemburg; accumulation; dynamic instability; linear models.

Identifying the 3FHL Catalog. III. Results of the CTIO-COSMOS Optical Spectroscopy Campaign
No full textActive galactic nuclei (AGNs) with their relativistic jets pointed toward the observer form a subclass of luminous gamma-ray sources commonly known as blazars. The study of blazars is essential to improve our understanding of the AGNs emission mechanisms and evolution, as well as to map the extragalactic background light. To do so, however, one needs to classify and measure a redshift for a large sample of these sources correctly. The Third Fermi-LAT Catalog of High-Energy Sources (3FHL) contains approximate to 1160 blazars reported at energies greater than 10 GeV. However, similar to 25% of these sources are unclassified and similar to 50% lack redshift information. To increase the spectral completeness of the 3FHL catalog, we are working on an optical spectroscopic follow-up campaign using 4 m and 8 m telescopes. In this paper, we present the results of the second part of this campaign, where we observed 23 blazars using the 4 m telescope at Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory in Chile. We report that all the 23 sources are classified as BL Lacs, a confirmed redshift measurement for three sources, a redshift lower limit for two sources, and a tentative redshift measurement for three sources

growing economies, driven by rising prices for oil and gas.
Russian authorities are concerned about sustaining this

diversify and broaden the basis for growth beyond the
profitable natural resource sector and to build an economy
that will be able to compete in the twenty-first century.
This book presents the case that Russia’s neglected
manufacturing sector is in need of human capital andpolicy
reforms that will unleash its innovative potential. Can
Russia Compete? quantifies and benchmarks the relative
strengths and weaknesses of that sector, identifying
opportunities to increase Russian productivity and
competitiveness. Drawing on original survey data from
Russian firms of all sizes, the authors formulate proposals
that aim to enhance the innovative potential of Russian
firms,upgrade the skills of their workforces, and develop a
business-friendly climate with lower administrative costs
and greater policy certainty. The original research and
analysis of Raj Desai, Itzhak Goldberg, and their colleagues
will be of use to anyone interested in the problems of
building manufacturing competitiveness in a globally
integrated economy. It will also be of interest to
