As a preliminary to a new critical edition, the author has drawn up for the first time an exhaustive list of nearly 160 copies, dating from the tenth to the nineteenth centuries, which have been conserved in the main libraries of Europe and the Near-East.Texte scolaire, les Sentences du Pseudo-Phocylide figurent dans un nombre considérable de manuscrits, médiévaux ou plus tardifs. The great number of manuscript copies listed here show the lasting credit this text was given. Nearly 200 manuscripts, dated from the 10 th to the 18 th cent, are described and alphabetically listed after the places where they are in custody.Les Vers d'or attribués à Pythagore ont connu un succès considérable dès l'époque de leur rédaction, au IIe siècle av. J.-C. L'abondance des copies manuscrites répertoriées ici témoigne du crédit durable accordé à ce texte. Classement sur Macintosh des manuscrits des Vers d'Or pythagoriciens
No full textA computerized method of genealogical classification has been applied to the manuscript tradition of the Pythagorean Golden Verses, characterized by a great number of copies and a strong contemination. The programm, which operates on Macintosh, includes three components : a data file of manuscripts, a data file of variants and a programm of analysis. The results habe been compared to the manuscript tradition of Hierocles' commentary to the Golden Verses. The advantage of this method resides in its logic, its rigour and in the ease of updating the data files and the results. Most of the errors in classification, due mainly to the phenomenon of contamination, also resist the traditional methods of philology.Une méthode informatique de classement généalogique a été mise au point et appliquée à la tradition manuscrite des Vers d'or pythagoriciens, caractérisée par un nombre élevé de témoins et une forte contamination. Le programme, qui fonctionne sur Macintosh, comprend trois éléments : un fichier des manuscrits, un fichier des variantes et un programme d'analyse. Les résultats ont été comparés à la tradition manuscrite du commentaire d'Hiéroclès aux Vers d'or. L'intérêt de cette méthode réside dans sa logique, sa rigueur et dans la facilité de mise à jour des fichiers et des résultats. La plupart des erreurs de classement, dues essentiellement au phénomène de la contamination, résistent également aux méthodes traditionnelles de la philologie.Derron Pascale. From Suspicion to Trust: The ‘Pact of Translation’ in Two Author-Translator Collaborations
No full textThere is a vast literature showing that author-translator relationships are often fraught with tensions which undermine trust between the two parties (Anokhina 2017; Hersant, 2017, 2020). These tensions are hardly detectable from the sole comparison of source and target texts but are likely to be revealed in archival material such as editorial correspondence or revised translator’s typescripts and galley proofs. The examination of archival material makes it possible to observe how trust between translator and author develops and deepens, but also how it can be jeopardized when other intermediaries come into play. This paper focuses on documents taken from the Lilly Library at the University of Indiana Bloomington. Both epitextual sources (such as correspondence with publishers and authors) and genetic sources (such as translators’ manuscripts and notebooks) pertaining to translators William Weaver (1923-2012) and Barbara Wright (1915-2009) are examined, with a view to better understand the complex interplay of trust and mistrust that takes place in translation collaborations
