The Flute Pedagogy of Raymond Guiot
Raymond Guiot (b. 1930) is a representative of the Modern French Flute School, and a graduate of the class of legendary flutist Marcel Moyse (1889-1984) at the Paris Conservatoire in 1947. His prolific career, spanning from the early 1950s to the present day, includes not only his work as a highly respected classical performer and pedagogue, but also as a renowned popular musician, recording artist, and composer. Despite his long artistic and pedagogical career, his outstanding teaching work, developed in conservatories and institutions in France and Italy--and in workshops, masterclasses and summer academies around the world--and despite the large number of his students having developed successful artistic careers, Raymond Guiot is one of the least known premier French flute pedagogues at the international level. This research seeks to introduce this figure of the Modern French Flute School—the performer, the composer, and especially the pedagogue—to both the flute world and the larger music community. The author details, through her first-hand experience as a former student of Guiot and through a series of interviews with fellow former students and Guiot himself, the outstanding pedagogical principles of this musician. This study presents the influence of the ideas of Marcel Moyse and the Paris Conservatory traditions on his teaching, as well as the influence of his popular music experience, and also his own particular approach to interpretation and expression, general flute technique, and the development of an artistic personality. This document presents Guiot’s pedagogy and his contributions to the realm of the flute performance, including an account of his work as a performer and as a flute teacher, a genealogy of the Modern French Flute School, a catalogue of his compositions, and a list of his recordings
SUBJECTIVE AGE BIASES AMONG ADOLESCENT GIRLS
Until now, the concept of subjective age has only been used to segment the mature market. Research on consumer behavior has shown the effects of a youthful bias, the tendency to see oneself as younger. Using a conceptual framework based on self-concept, social comparison, and symbolic consumption, this research proposes to characterize the antecedents and the effects of an analogous but opposed tendency: an older bias among adolescent girls. An empirical study carried out in France showed the influence of this tendency on makeup color preferences. These can convey the symbols of an identity age. The results also highlight the role of some antecedents of the older bias: aspiration to aging, self-esteem and concern for physical appearance.Tendance d'âge subjectif – âge chronologique – âge cognitif – adolescents – symbolisme compensatoire – sonsommation de cosmétiques-
ANTECEDENTS OF SUBJECTIVE AGE BIASES AMONG SENIOR WOMEN
From a conceptual framework based on developmental psychology and mechanisms of social comparison, this research proposes testing an explanatory model of the trend to see oneself as younger which is characteristic of seniors. The identification of antecedent variables of this tendency suggests a new approach to segmenting the feminine over fifties market in France.subjective age-cognitive age-seniors-aged consumers-consumption

Between prevention and promotion : the impact of mortality salience on situational focus regulatory in consumption and on product preferences
Death is the unescapable event that most of individuals want to hide motivated by a fundamental will to stay alive. Because it can be source of mystery, fascination and anxiety, this topic has been of specific interest in psychology thanks to the Terror Management Theory (TMT). This theory enables to understand how fear of death is fundamentally anchored in the human nature and the defense mechanisms that are used in response to death reminders that are aroused by the mortality salience situation. This doctoral research aims at filling the gap in the litterature on TMT while studying specifically the impact of mortality salience on situational regulatory focus, i.e. the adoption of an approach versus avoidance strategy and the preferences for promotion versus prevention products. In this perspective, an experimentation has been conducted among 360 individuals from two distinct age classes (40-59 and 60-79). The results confirm the existence of two independent processes (approach vs. avoidance), so that the mortality salience manipulation leads to the adoption of a specific strategy and distinct product preferences. They also show the main moderator role of chronological age in this process, that can be mainly explained by the aging process
Intercultural inhibition : The case of the French young women from Maghreb
Consumption is not only utilitarian but symbolical indeed cultural, this dissertation explains in depth what French young women from Maghreb feels in their ethnic consumer experiences. This research highlights and defines the concept of intercultural inhibition arising at these young women and how it influences their consumption. This research proposes a typology of the inhibited immigrants consumer from the second generation based on a great social and personal changes brought by the advent of ethnic consumption: the question of inhibition, the identity strategies and new forms of sociability. The research is interpretative and involves different methods including life stories, netnography and projective collages. They are analysed by a structural analysis and comparative analysis. In addition, the dissertation engages multidisciplinary literature, mainly based on medicine, psychologies, sociology and marketing. Finally, recommendations are made for researchers and managers
Technology-based solutions to alleviate loneliness in professional caregivers and the elderly with loss of autonomy
This thesis comprises three essays that collectively advance our understanding of loneliness mitigation among the elderly with loss of autonomy and professional caregivers through technology-based interventions. The first essay identifies a literature gap in ICT interventions for elderly recipients of professional home caregiving. It highlights the need for further research and recognizes the pivotal role of professional caregivers in these interventions. The second essay explores the distinctive perspectives of professional caregivers and reveals their substantial contributions to alleviating elderly loneliness through emotional companionship and cognitive support. In the third essay, mHealth solutions, including music and instant messaging, are introduced to address workplace loneliness among professional caregivers, offering practical insights for organizations to enhance caregiver well-being and retention. Collectively, these essays enrich our theoretical and practical comprehension of technology's potential to mitigate loneliness in elderly populations and professional caregiving contexts, thereby providing valuable insights for enhancing the quality of care and overall well-being
