A Framework to Assess Manufacturers’ Circular Economy Readiness Level in Developing Countries: An Application Case in a Serbian Packaging Company

    No full text
Researchers highlighted the gap between the circular economy (CE) theory and real manufacturing practices. In developing countries, the background for CE development is quite different from developed countries, where there is an established waste management structure and a robust environmental policy. In addition, a shortage of best practices, guidelines, learning experiences, frameworks, and models capable of guiding manufacturers in measuring their circular level and track a roadmap towards an improvement of their circular readiness is raised in the literature. Therefore, this research develops and proposes a framework for assessing company’s CE readiness and is tailored for companies operating in developing countries. In detail, the framework investigates the two main perspectives (product and business model) that companies should consider adopting and implementing CE in their operations and business. The framework also supports companies to track an improvement roadmap through the definition of future actions and KPIs. To develop the framework, an application case with a company placed in Serbia and operating in the packaging industry has been conducted. The application of the framework unveiled that there is room for improvement in developing countries to foster CE adoption, especially in the policy context. Indeed, policy incentives and instruments of public authorities would considerably support the circular transition process in companies

Žilne opornice omogočajo neoviran krvni obtok. Pogosto se za material žilnih opornic uporablja zlitina niklja in titana, znana pod komercialnim imenom Nitinol. Ta spada v skupino materialov z oblikovnim spominom. Vascular stents allow unobstructed blood circulation. The material often used for vascular stents is an alloy of nickel and titanium, commercially known as Nitinol. It belongs to the group of shape memory materials. A particular feature of these materials is the phenomenon of superelasticity. This thesis investigates the influence of the use of a superelastic and a linear-elastic material model on the results of a compression simulation of a vascular stent ring, parametrically modelled in the Python programming language and using the PyAnsys project libraries (PyMAPDL). The results focus on stress and radial stiffness, where the reaction force is observed. The numerical simulation is based on the finite element method and is executed in Ansys. Alongside different material models, analysis also compares the effect of model discretization with one-dimensional and three-dimensional finite elements. The results of the thesis conclude that the material model has a significant influence on the correct description of the compression stress of the vascular stent ring and also on the values of the reaction force. It is observed that the discretization method does not affect reaction force, but it does cause differences in the stress between the two models

<p><strong>Analysis of the Cemetery Župna Cerkev in Kranj (Slovenia). Preliminary observations of the research project</strong><a href="#_ftn1">[1]</a></p> <p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p>The temporal identification of the graves of the Župna Cerkev cemetery is the goal of the first part of the research project. Older researches assume that out of almost 3000 graves more than one third is early medieval. In the current research phase, a stratigraphic dating method will be used to determine the number of early medieval graves without grave goods.</p> <p><strong>Keywords: </strong>Župna cerkev cemetery in Kranj (Slovenia); early medieval period; material culture; stratigraphy; skeletal graves</p> <p>The cemetery of Župna Cerkev in Kranj (Slovenia) is the largest early medieval cemetery in the territory of the southeastern Alps, as well as in the greater part of Central Europe. Between the 8th and 18th centuries there was an uninterrupted burial continuity of 1,000 years. Excavations between 1953 and 2013 documented 2,943 graves (ZBIVA<a href="#_ftn2">[2]</a>, OIAS 35, 37, 38).</p> <p>The cemetery does not show the usual horizontal growth in time and space (i.e. horizontal stratigraphy / topographic chronology), but a vertical growth (stratigraphy) caused by the continuous burial on a small, relatively limited space next to an (early) medieval church. The continuation of burial in a limited space created a series of stratigraphic relationships between graves (Rihter 2023, 275-277).</p> <p>Recently, the stratigraphy of the graves and a typochronology of the head circlets and rings was made (Rihter 2020). This shows that early medieval graves may occur in up to 9 stratigraphic sequences ('layers'), which may be followed by younger graves. The stratigraphic sequences clearly show the beginning and end of the occurrence of early medieval artifacts in the graves (ca. mid-8th to mid-11th century), as well as the reappearance of artifacts in the graves of the High Middle Ages. The last graves with early medieval jewelry are the first (in some areas), followed by »pilgrim graves« with scallop shells (<em>Pecten</em> sp). The stratigraphic situation shows that there is a period without artifacts in graves in between (Rihter 2022). As the examination of the stratigraphically lowest graves shows, the burial began with graves without grave goods, probably at the beginning of the 8th century (Rihter 2023). A large part of the remaining graves without grave goods remain undated.</p> <p>The presentation includes the results and practical examples of dating early medieval graves without grave goods in stratigraphic sequences (see below in Files: Power Point presentation "<strong>Rihter_Maribor_20_10_2023.pptx</strong>").</p> <p><strong>Literatura / Literature </strong></p> <p>OIAS 35 = A.
