The Authors emphasize the violation of children’s and adolescents’ rights as a result of the exploitation of child labour. Besides the legal aspect, they pointed out the medical features related to the delicate growing process of the child in the phases of development and adaptation of the main organs to hard work. Currently the problem is being supervised by those states that recognize the right for minors to be protected against any kind of physical, mental, spiritual and moral risk
The Authors explain the text of the Decree April 27 2004 related to the new list of work diseases to he reported as by law enacted, instead of the previous Decree April 18 1973. The Decree follows up the latest UE Recommendation 2003/670 in order to bring up to date the European list of work diseases.
The Authors examine several topical points of this decree, wishing for Italy a new up to date list for work diseases as from the last DPR April 13, 1994 n° 336
Selection effects in gamma-ray burst correlations: Consequences on the ratio between gamma-ray burst and star formation rates
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) visible up to very high redshift have become attractive targets as potential new distance indicators. It is still not clear whether the relations proposed so far originate from an unknown GRB physics or result from selection effects. We investigate this issue in the case of the LX - (hereafter LT) correlation between the X-ray luminosity LX (Ta ) at the end of the plateau phase, Ta , and the rest-frame time . We devise a general method to build mock data sets starting from a GRB world model and taking into account selection effects on both time and luminosity. This method shows how not knowing the efficiency function could influence the evaluation of the intrinsic slope of any correlation and the GRB density rate. We investigate biases (small offsets in slope or normalization) that would occur in the LT relation as a result of truncations, possibly present in the intrinsic distributions of LX and . We compare these results with the ones in Dainotti et al. showing that in both cases the intrinsic slope of the LT correlation is -1.0. This method is general and therefore relevant for investigating whether or not any other GRB correlation is generated by the biases themselves. Moreover, because the farthest GRBs and star-forming galaxies probe the reionization epoch, we evaluate the redshift-dependent ratio Ψ(z) = (1 + z)αof the GRB rate to the star formation rate. We found a modest evolution -0.2 ≤ α ≤ 0.5 consistent with a Swift GRB afterglow plateau in the redshift range 0.99 < z < 9.4
The museum of the department of public health and infectious diseases, Sapienza University of Rome
This paper illustrates in detail the birth of the Museum of Public Health of the Sapienza University of Rome, which has been one of the most successful achievements of Prof Carmine Melino in the last few years of his academic career. Backed by a very thin group of enthousiastic coworkers and colleagues, he recuperated all the instruments which had been used by the research groups active since 1880 at the former Institute of Hygiene, to which he added samples of the different pieces of laboratory furniture, ancient reagents, etc. The goal was not to simply collect, restore and maintain the documents of the Institute's past, but to rebuild a vintage laboratory, as it was inhabited by the hygienists of the past and to describe the kinds of research being performed during a period more than a century long. Beginning from the days when Hygiene became a scientific discipline, he tried to demonstrate that only the transformation of Hygiene into an experimental discipline made it possible the numberless achievements, including the improvements of the environmental conditions, the reduction of infectious diseases and the successful fight against the chronic, degenerative diseases of the present times
This work follows up the previous edited in the year 2004. and deals with the still serious and discussed problem of work risks even though the use of asbestos has been forbidden since 10 years, and the tobacco's smoke since one year. The Authors discuss die question related to the genetic point of view as a first and multiplying action caused at the some time by the tobacco's smoke and asbestos dust tn the working places. This work report an up-to-date list of law about environmental prevention
The provisional measures in the “Enrica Lexie Incident” case
The analysis of the comprehensive situation of the duties of the parties to
the dispute resulting from the two orders on provisional measures adopted by the
International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) and by the Annex VII arbitral
tribunal (Annex VII AT) discloses also the implicit confirmation by the latter tribunal
of the provisional measures adopted by ITLOS and moreover, as for marine Latorre,
not mentioned in the second order, the identical legal positions of Sergeant Girone.
The Annex VII AT Order discloses in the provisional phase the attitude, typical of
the international mediation, of seeking a solutions acceptable by both parties and the
reference to considerations of humanity as a proper legal criterion, put in evidence
in the operative provisions. As for the application of the international rules on functional
immunity invoked by Italy and contested by India in the two provisional proceedings,
in the light of the case law of recent arbitral decisions can be reasonably
expected that in its final decision the arbitral tribunal, in applying Art. 293 of the UN
1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea, will take into consideration those rules
