Problemas do discurso de Deepak Chopra: uma análise metalinguística de “A cura quântica”
Full text linkIn this article, our objective is to make some contributions to the debate around the “quantum mysticism” phenomenon, exploring discursive aspects that permeate an utterance with this kind of theme. To this end, we bring forth an analysis of the book Quantum healing by Deepak Chopra, based on the philosophy of the Bakhtin Circle. We investigate not only the author's argumentative strategies, but we also connect the constituent elements of this utterance (theme, structure and style) with its context of publication, production and reception. We end our arguments recognizing the incoherence that Chopra demonstrates with his intertwining of mystical and alternative conceptions with a scientific worldview, while uttering inconsistent metaphors and serious contradictions, but we also highlight that the author was able to influence the way in which concepts related to Quantum Physics circulate outside the academia.Neste artigo, nosso objetivo é contribuir para o debate sobre o misticismo quântico, explorando aspectos discursivos que permeiam um enunciado com tal tema. Para tanto, realizamos uma análise metalinguística do livro A cura quântica de Deepak Chopra, com base na filosofia da linguagem do Círculo de Bakhtin. Investigamos não apenas as estratégias argumentativas do autor, mas também conectamos os elementos constitutivos desse enunciado (tema, estrutura e estilo) com seu contexto de produção e publicação. A partir da análise reconhecemos a incoerência de Chopra ao sintetizar visões de mundo místicas e alternativas e uma visão de mundo científica repleta de metáforas inconsistentes e graves contradições, mas destacando como o autor conseguiu influenciar o modo como conceitos relacionados à Física Quântica são mobilizados fora do contexto acadêmico

Full text linkThe purpose of this thesis is a comparative study of the biblical Christian worldview and the worldview of pop-culture guru Deepak Chopra. Both worldviews are compared using a standard four-question worldview rubric. Research was gathered from Chopra’s books and biblical Christian worldview books. Once a worldview rubric question is answered it is tested with the correspondence theory of truth to see how it reflects the reality and experience that humanity collectively perceives in the world. The biblical Christian worldview adequately answered all rubric questions in a coherent manner that corresponds with reality. The Christian worldview has cumulative strength as it did not contradict itself and each rubric question response built upon the other in a manner that corresponds with the reality of the world. Chopra’s worldview failed each of the rubric questions. His worldview does not correspond with reality, and the shared human experience. Chopra also frequently contradicts himself and his worldview is incoherent

Āyurveda and Mind-Body Healing:Legitimizing Strategies in the Autobiographical Writing of Deepak Chopra
Full text linkThis paper explores the early autobiographical work of the popular health and wellbeing guru, Deepak Chopra. The autobiography (entitled Return of the Rishi) is Chopra’s account of his early forays into meditation and Āyurveda, the Indian health tradition. It is the story of his “spiritual transformation” and his development into a proficient Āyurvedic healer. Following the lead of his one-time guru and mentor, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Chopra represents Āyurveda as “consciousness-based” medicine. This paper demonstrates how, by means of a series of narrative strategies deploying the motif of the semi-divine ṛṣi, or sage, and foregrounding personal experience as the ultimate source of spiritual legitimacy and authority, Chopra (a biomedical doctor with little or no formal training in Āyurveda) seeks to secure legitimacy as an authority on Āyurveda and an adept with extraordinary healing powers.</p

Full text linkThe study is purposed to show patience of prince Siddhartha, the main character in Buddha: A Story of Enlightenment to enlightenment. Object of the study of this research is the novel. This research analyses its structural elements and patience of prince Siddhartha that deals with inferiority feeling, striving for superiority, fictional finalism, style of life, social interest, creative power and conscious self using an individual psychological approach. This research is qualitative research. Type of data of the study is text taken from two data sources: primary and secondary. The primary data source is taken from the novel and the Notebook written by Deepak Chopra in 2007 while the secondary data sources are other sources related to the primary data. Data collecting method in this study is library research, and in analyzing the data the researcher employs descriptive analysis. The result of the study shows the following conclusion. The structural element of the novel is also offered in a good relation of work in building the story. Based on individual psychology analysis the novel tells that the major character, prince Siddhartha is affected by the psychological effect. Prince Siddhartha with his patience struggling to conquer the lust that control the body and mind to free himself and trying to reach enlightenment
