Benessere organizzativo in sanità: una review della letteratura

    No full text
Organizational well-being has been widely studied in the academic debate, while little attention has been paid to the specific health sector. Aiming at filling this gap, this study systematizes the aspects affecting employee well-being in the healthcare context and provides an updated state-of-the-art on the literature debating on this issue. In doing so, it provides both academic and practical implications for managerial action in the healthcare context. Also, the study represents a useful starting point for practical interventions to improve workers' motivation and well-being. The study employs a systematic literature review to detect those factors affecting the well-being of healthcare professionals. The results will be interpreted through organizational behavior studies on motivation, particularly the approach providedby Herzberg in the "Two-factors"' theory. The results reveal that only recently the attention increased on the healthcare context, and that a particular attention is devoted to nurses. In addition, some determinants for the well-being of healthcare workers are detected, identifying some specific factors in addition to those already identified in other sectors

Using the job demands-resources approach to assess employee well-being in healthcare

    No full text
Purpose: The aim of this study is to advance a model to assess the overall level of well-being within healthcare organizations. Design/methodology/approach: The paper employs a job demands-resources approach by considering the multilevel model of employee well-being as theoretical framework, integrated with personal resources and health indicators. A specific case is built in the Italian context, with empirical data gathered from three Italian paediatric hospitals belonging to the same healthcare organizations. Findings: Results show that the job demand-resource model may well explain differences in the work environment, and that personality enables coping with negative effects of work environment settings. Originality/value. The paper contributes to extending the literature on well-being and the management of healthcare organizations, by providing interesting insights on the multilevel model of employee well-being. It also has interesting academic and practical implications, since it tries to put forward a model to assess employee well-being and provides an empirical application of a well-known theoretical model

Resistance to gender education: a case study of a kindergarten in Italy

Purpose – Despite repeated attempts to implement gender education in schools, numerous forms of resistance still persist, maintaining the current gender order, especially in Italy. Thus, in this paper, the authors focus on the practices of resistance opposed to gender education in kindergarten. Design/methodology/approach – This study takes a qualitative approach, and data collection was conducted using ethnographic observations, a focus group and an in-depth interview. The authors used critical discourse analysis (cf: Fairclough’s three-dimensional model). Findings – As per our findings, teachers’ resistance is attributed to “hegemonic masculinity” and “essentialism”. In the case of “hegemonic masculinity”, the discourses emphasise that male feminisation is a threat and female masculinisation is harmless. On the “essentialist” side, teachers’ discourses focus on the segregation of genders that justify naturalised gender differences. Practical implications – This study emphasises the need for specific training for figures as important and authoritative as teachers. In addition to the training of teachers who currently work in kindergarten, it is also necessary to address the issue at the institutional level, adding to the university courses the teaching of specific subjects related to gender. Social implications – This paper offers causes for reflection on a profession that has profound implications in our society and about the power of resistance to implementing gender education. The implications are discussed. Originality/value – Different data sources are used simultaneously to disclose discursive practices of resistance to gender education in Italy
