    ETAO Keyboard: Text Input Technique on Smartwatches

    AbstractIn the present day context of wearable computing, smartwatches augment our mobile experience even further by providing in- formation at our wrists. What they fail to do is to provide a comprehensive text entry solution for interacting with the various app notifications they display. In this paper we present ETAO keyboard, a full-fledged keyboard for smartwatches, where a user can input the most frequent English alphabets with a single tap. Other keys which include numbers and symbols are entered by a double tap. We conducted a user study that involved sitting and walking scenarios for our experiments and after a very short training session, we achieved an average words per minute (WPM) of 12.46 and 9.36 respectively. We expect that our proposed keyboard will be a viable option for text entry on smartwatches

    Proteogenomic analysis of bradyrhizobium japonicum USDA110 using genosuite, an automated multi-algorithmic pipeline

    We present GenoSuite, an integrated proteogenomic pipeline to validate, refine and discover protein coding genes using high-throughput mass spectrometry (MS) data from prokaryotes. To demonstrate the effectiveness of GenoSuite, we analyzed proteomics data of Bradyrhizobium japonicum (USDA110), a model organism to study agriculturally important rhizobium-legume symbiosis. Our analysis confirmed 31% of known genes, refined 49 gene models for their translation initiation site (TIS) and discovered 59 novel protein coding genes. Notably, a novel protein which redefined the boundary of a crucial cytochrome P450 system related operon was discovered, known to be highly expressed in the anaerobic symbiotic bacteroids. A focused analysis on N-terminally acetylated peptides indicated downstream TIS for gene blr0594. Finally, ortho-proteogenomic analysis revealed three novel genes in recently sequenced B. japonicum USDA6T genome. The discovery of large number of missing genes and correction of gene models have expanded the proteomic landscape of B. japonicum and presents an unparalleled utility of proteogenomic analyses and versatility of GenoSuite for annotating prokaryotic genomes including pathogens

With effect from July 1st, 2010, all banks are supposed to lend at base rate or minimum level of interest rate to customers. The net impact of this for retail customer will not be much as cost of funds for banks are not going to change much and cost of funds determine base rate. Big corporates will be biggest losers as they had advantage of getting loans at sub-base rates. Biggest gainers will be small and medium firms who were getting raw deal earlier from banks. Banks may lose market share in short term but there is going to be greater transparency and trickling down of policies made by RBI across banks due to base-rate system. Game theory has been applied to explain the base rate transition scenario in the paper

In order to sustain the growth in the microfinance industry, it is necessary to shifting the loan financing for MFIs from traditional lenders to capital markets. This can primarily be achieved through securitization and CDOs. Both have different advantages to offer which can be tapped separately and also customized on a case‐by‐case basis. Apart from the domestic commercial investors, foreign market debt can also be tapped for the funding needs of the MFIs but for that to function properly, the FXR has to be managed which can be effectively done through the creation of a “global local currency fund” which basically works on the principle of diversification

    AbstractThe use of ultra-small smart devices, such as smartwatches, has become increasingly popular, particularly at the consumer level, in recent years. Smartwatch is a kind of interactive device that offers the ability to read text messages, email and notifications, once it is synchronized with a smartphone. But, performing efficient text input task on smartwatch is really difficult due to its small touch screen display. In this paper, we present hall effect sensors based text entry mechanism that effectively uses the 3D space around the smartwatch for entering alphanumeric characters. Our proposed text input technique (a) does not consume any screen space; (b) does not need any visual search to find a character and (c) does not suffer from fat finger problem

    Structural characterization of spray-dried microgranules by spin-echo small-angle neutron scattering

    Spray-drying is a widely used industrial technique and has shown an immense potential in the fields of nanoscience and technology. This is due to its ability to synthesize microgranules consisting of correlated nanostructures using evaporation induced assembly through bottom-up approach. Although the nature of correlation among the constituent nanoparticles and their size distribution could earlier be obtained by conventional Small-angle Scattering (SAS) technique, a statistically averaged quantitative measure of the shell thickness and hollowness of the formed granules remained a challenge. In this work, we have used Spin-echo Small-angle Neutron Scattering (SESANS) technique to characterize spray-dried nanostructured microgranules having different hollowness.
