Opitz // [large red label] HOLOTYPE ♂ Thisiomorphus curticornis Pollock ”, in FSCA. Derivation of specific epithet. From a combination of the Latin “ curtus ” (short) and “ cornu ” (horn), in reference to the distinctly short antennae of the holotype. Diagnosis. The single specimen of this new species possesses very short antennae, not extending past half length of pronotum; this is unique in the genus. Description. Measurements (mm, N = 1): HL = 0.88; PL = 0.88; EL = 3.16; GHW = 1.16; GPW = 1.24; GEW = 1.92; TL = 4.92. Ratios: EL/GEW = 1.65; GPW/PL = 1.41; TL/GEW = 2.56; GPW/GHW = 1.07. With characters of Thisiomorphus, and the following: Body narrowly oval (TL / GEW 2.56), lateral elytral margins slightly arcuate. Color. Antennae rufotestaceous; maxillary palpi uniformly rufous; head, pronotum and scutellum concolorous, dark brown; elytra dark brown, slightly lighter in color than forebody; femora and tibiae brown, femora slightly lighter distally; tarsi dark rufous; venter uniformly brown. Antennae very short; antennomeres 3–7 subfiliform; antennomeres 8–10 short, nearly moniliform, only slightly widened distally. Pronotum moderately wider than long (GPW / PL 1.41), subequal in width to head (GPW / GHW 1.07); lateral margins subparallel basally, arcuate in anterior half, maximum width near midlength; dorsal surface evenly convex, without depressions. Male genitalia. Parameres distinctly shorter than lateral margin of basale, inner margins very slightly sinuate basally; basale with anterior margin slightly curved, lateral margins straight for their entire lengths. Distribution. The only known specimen is from northeastern ECUADOR (Sucumbíos).Published as part of Pollock, Darren A., 2016, Revision of Thisiomorphus Pic (Coleoptera: Mycteridae: Eurypinae) with descriptions of eleven new species from Central and South America and a key to genera of Neotropical Eurypinae, pp. 301-322 in Zootaxa 4093 (3) on page 315, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4093.3.1, http://zenodo.org/record/26410

From the word “convergent”, pertaining to the lateral pronotal margins, which are distinctly convergent anteriorly. Diagnosis. The single specimen exhibits the following distinctive features: dorsum of body with distinct bluish metallic lustre; pronotum distinctly wider than long, with lateral margins almost straight, and distinctly convergent anteriorly. Description. Measurements (mm, N = 1): HL = 0.80; PL = 0.80; EL = 3.24; GHW = 1.04; GPW = 1.32; GEW = 2.04; TL = 4.84. Ratios: EL/GEW = 1.59; GPW/PL = 1.65; TL/GEW = 2.37; GPW/GHW = 1.27. With characters of Thisiomorphus, and the following: Body moderately broadly ovate (TL / GEW 2.37), lateral elytral margins distinctly arcuate. Color. Antennae uniformly rufopiceous; maxillary palpi rufous with darker distal palpomere; head and pronotum dark piceous, with distinct blue metallic lustre; scutellum and elytra slightly lighter than forebody, with similar metallic lustre; femora and tibiae piceous, tarsi lighter, rufous; venter piceous, abdominal ventrites slightly lighter than thorax (specimen could be slightly teneral). Antennae relatively short; antennomeres 3–7 subfiliform; antennomeres 8–10 short, indistinctly widened distally. Pronotum distinctly wider than long (GPW / PL 1.65), distinctly wider than head (GPW / GHW 1.27); lateral margins only very slightly arcuate, convergent anteriorly, maximum width at hind angles; hind angles not protruding; dorsal surface evenly convex, without depressions.
