Seismic record section of 2016 Granada meteor
A meteor terminal explosion on December 11th 2016 in southern Spain was recorded along a dense transect of seismic broadband stations (Tropical Profile). This repository contains one hour of three-component data at the transect (SAC individual traces), station coordinates and instrument response in SAC poles and zeroes format

Projectivism psychologized: the philosophy and psychology of disgust
This dissertation explores issues in the philosophy of psychology and metaphysics through the lens of the emotion of disgust, and its corresponding property, disgustingness.
The first chapter organizes an extremely large body of data about disgust, imposes two constraints any theory must meet, and offers a cognitive model of the mechanisms underlying the emotion. The second chapter explores the evolution of disgust, and argues for the Entanglement thesis: this uniquely human emotion was formed when two formerly distinct mechanisms, one dedicated to monitoring food intake and protecting against poisons, the other dedicated to protecting against parasitic infection, where driven together until they became functionally integrated. The third chapter explores the sorts of acquisition mechanisms that could give rise to the patterns of individual and cultural level variation we find with disgust elicitors. It argues for the Empathic Acquisition thesis, which holds that one important route for the social acquisition and transmission of disgust elicitors is linked to empathic recognition of facial expressions of the emotion. The fourth chapter builds on the Entanglement thesis, and embeds the emotion of disgust in gene-culture coevolutionary theory and the tribal instincts hypothesis. The Co-opt thesis is defended, which maintains that disgust was co-opted to play an important role in our moral psychology, particularly in our cognition of social norms and ethnic boundary markers. In doing so, however, it brings to bear many features initially linked to poisons and parasites. This explains the puzzling and troublesome character of moral judgments linked to disgust.
After shifting gears from psychology to metaphysics, the fifth chapter recasts the Humean tradition of projectivism in the terminology of cognitive science. Using examples such as disgust, I argue that a psychologized projectivism is able to make sense of the idea that some properties are projected onto the world, rather than found there to begin with. The final chapter criticizes three other accounts of the property of disgustingness, two inspired by functionalism in the philosophy of color, one inspired by fittingness accounts in metaethics. I argue that none provide nearly as satisfactory account of the property as the psychologized projectivism articulated previously.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical references (p. 251-261)

Although most of the 300 species in North American are poorly characterized, estimates of population parameters and detection probabilities from existing studies can be used to design monitoring programs that balance effort and statistical rigor. We used existing estimates of survival and detection probabilities within a simulation framework to assess minimum monitoring design requirements (numbers of sites and individuals) for analyzing freshwater mussel populations using mark-recapture methods. The simulations indicated that both the number of individuals available, and number of sampling occasions had potential to affect accuracy and precision of resultant estimates. Accuracy of survival estimates generally increased with increasing number of individuals until about 300 individuals and likewise increased with increasing number of sampling occasions until error was minimized at about 30 occasions. Precision similarly increased until a minimum of 250 individuals or 50 occasions. Future simulations will incorporate additional complexities and help guide management and research efforts. This will include exploration of robust design approaches incorporating both primary and secondary (replicate) sampling events for better estimation within shorter time frames.VoRSUNY OneontaBiologyN/

The impoundments were formed in the early 1900s when dams were constructed on Stewart Brook and Stewart Creek by Earl Woodward. Soon after, the Northwoods Lake Association (NWLA) was founded to serve, protect and manage these resources. NWLA members serve as vested lake stewards who are invested in the care of these lakes. These impoundments are cherished by residents, visitors and the Northwoods Lake Association, who strive to both manage and protect the resources. The State of Lake Forest and Lake Allure, NY and Comprehensive Lake Management Plan for Lakes Forest and Allure was created to provide the above parties with the information, tools, resources and recommendations to help preserve and protect the lakes for future generations.Northwoods Lake Association, SUNY Oneonta Biological Field StationVoRSUNY OneontaBiologyM

Propagación de ondas sísmicas en un asteroide
During recent space missions targeting asteroids, artificial impacts have been planned and successfully performed. This allows to realistically discuss the ability to perform seismic experiments and obtain seismic records during future missions, which might very well be a reality during the next decade. A numerical simulation is performed using Axisem, an axisymmetric spectral elements code, to study the seismic response of a small asteroid. Two simple models are proposed in order to characterize the effects of a small regolith layer on wave propagation. Source and mesh parameters are scaled to achieve the required resolution and a realistic seismic response. Final data is extracted from both models in the form of wavefield snapshots and synthetic seismograms at a number of epicentral distances. The results show the regolith’s efficiency at guiding body waves and retaining seismic energy when no attenuation is considered. Regolith uplifting due to ground accelerations caused by Rayleigh waves is also shown to be possible by surpassing the asteroid’s microgravity. Obtaining seismic records from small active sources
should also be feasible if the instrument is well attached to the surface, allowing for seismic probing and providing a new tool to access an asteroids interior.Universidad de Granada. Máster en Geofísica y Meteorología (GEOMET). Curso 2019-202
Mother Nature versus the Walking Encyclopedia
In 1982, Feldman and Ballard published "Connectionist models and their properties" in Cognitive Science, helping to focus attention on a family of similarly inspired research strategies just then under way, by giving the family a name: "connectionism." Now, seven years later, the connectionist nation has swelled to include such subfamilies as "PDP" and "neural net models." Since the ideological foes of connectionism are keen to wipe it out in one fell swoop aimed at its "essence", it is worth noting the diversity of not only the models but also the aspirations of the modelers. There is no good reason to suppose that they all pledge allegiance to any one principle or set of principles that could be shown to be false or incoherent. Those who think they are making exciting progress on their chosen projects have no particular reason to declare their own brand orthodox, and other brands ("rival" brands) heretical. Let a thousand flowers bloom and soon enough the sickly plants will succumb, without need of ideological condemnation
