A characterization of the Schechter essential spectrum on Banach spaces and applications
AbstractIn a recent article by the author (C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris Sér. I 331 (2000) 525–530; Boll. Un. Mat. Ital. (2002), to appear) the Schechter spectrum of closed, densely defined linear operators has been characterized on spaces, which possess the Dunford–Pettis property or which are isomorphic to one of the spaces Lp(Ω), p>1. The purpose of the present work is to extend this analysis to the case of Banach spaces. Further we apply the obtained results to investigate the Schechter essential spectrum of one-dimensional transport equations with different boundary conditions
Maternal Post-traumatic Stress and Response to Toddler Distress : What is the Impact on Mutual Emotion Regulation and the Child's Social-Emotional Development?
Papers and preliminary findings from three different programs of research examining the effects of maternal violent traumatization on the early parent-child relationship and on child social-emotional development, directed by Dr. Schechter and spanning the period 1999 to the present, are reviewed and compiled. These three programs of research involved the following samples: 1) Clinical Sample of Referred Mothers and Toddlers during his NIH Research Fellowship (N=41) and the follow-up of the young children 2 years later (N=25), 2) Pediatrics Community Clinics Sample of Mothers and Toddlers during the NIH Research Career Award (N=104) that included the imaging study (N=20), and finally 3) the current study in Geneva with preliminary results thus far (N=13) have continued to characterize how interpersonal violence-related posttraumatic psychopathology impacts the child-parent relationship during formative development of emotion regulation in the child, with demonstrable repercussions for the child in preschool and early school-age years. Specifically, the overarching hypothesis that links these 3 different research programs tested and supported the hypothesis that mothers who have experienced interpersonal violence and who suffer from related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) tend to have particular difficulties in the regulation of their own emotion and arousal, particularly when faced with helpless states of mind in their young children or themselves. These difficulties, which can be viewed at the level of maternal mental representations and self-reported stress, behavior, physiology, and neural activity are associated with impairment in their parental function of assisting their young children with regulation of their emotion, arousal, and aggression

Public speaking for today's audiences
Public Speaking for Today's Audiences explains the process and craft of creating and delivering impactful speeches, both for in-person and digital audiences. This book was written for CMNS 1125: Public Speaking at Douglas College, but could also be a valuable textbook for many other undergraduate professional writing courses (and CMNS 1125 transfers as equivalent to many other post-secondary institutions, especially in British Columbia). It is ideal for students and professionals looking to build skill and confidence in their current and future professions.Published. This PDF is a representation of the book as at January, 2023. Statistical analyses of gravitational microlensing probability densities
Thesis: S.B., Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Physics, 2018.Cataloged from PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (pages 67-69).Gravitational microlensing is a powerful modelling tool, that is essential in accurately understanding the lensing behavior of astronomically strong lensed objects. Using Joachim Wambsganss micro-magnification maps, we discuss the creation of a Monte-Carlo tool that can determine the likelihood for microlensing to account for flux ratio anomalies between macro-models and observations. We apply this tool to the study of iPTF16geu, a recently discovered type IA lensed supernova, and determine that it is unlikely for microlensing alone to account for flux ratio anomalies. We apply the tool, and an extension of the tool that allows us to predict the source's intrinsic magnitude, to Huchra's Lens. We study the light curves of Huchra's lens over time, and predict that image B is stuck in an uninteresting place in its micro-magnification map, causing its microlensing to consistently corrupt the source light curve over the past twenty years. Using Charles Keeton's lens model, a macro-modelling tool, we investigate the quadruply lensed system, DES J0408-5354. We present a new macro-model for the system, which predicts that image C, a perturbed saddle point, is outside the second perturbing galaxy relative to the primary lensing galaxy. This represents a new macro-model for the system, supported by recent unpublished Hubble observations. Finally, we present a method for investigating the quasar continuum emitting region size, and a way to test the point-like assumption at varied wavelengths. We discuss the framework and describe the process for how future work can provide essential constraints on the quasar continuum emitting region.by Daniel Alexander Yahalomi.S.B
Interpesonal violence-related posttraumatic stress sisorder: effects of maternal trauma-related psychopathology on the offspring. An event related potential study
As part of the Geneva Early Childhood Stress Project, the present master's thesis considers mothers exposed to interpersonal violence-related posttraumatic stress disorder (IPV-PTSD) and their offspring (6-9 years old). Results obtained in Phase 1 of the project showed that traumatized mothers and their offspring (aged 12-42 months old) presented disturbances in emotion and arousal regulation as compared to healthy mothers and their offspring. Thus, the present study aims to find differences in emotional processing between children of IPV-PTSD (N=20) and children of control mothers (N=19) who are now school- aged. For that purpose, HD-EEG was recorded in children during the performance of an emotional face-matching task (EFMT). Their mothers (N=38; 21 IPV-PTSD, 17 controls) also completed the same task, although no brain imaging data was collected for them..
California Real Estate Finance, Fifth Edition
Roger Bernhardt, Stephen Dyer, and their new co authors, Daniel Bogart and Dan Schechter have fully updated their casebook on California Real Estate Finance in this revised fifth edition. California Real Estate Finance not only takes account of important changes in state and federal substantive and statutory law, but goes further and addresses the controversial and important real estate issues so widely discussed today, including predatory lending and the collapse of the subprime mortgage market.
California law governing real estate is comprehensive and complex, fiercely so in the area of finance. Many California students will practice in this area, and the California Bar Exam does include finance as a subject area. Conventional law school real estate transactions courses often devote only a small fraction of their time to the important peculiarities of California doctrines, such as the one action and antideficiency rules. This book fills a critical need for students attending California law schools who intend to practice here. In order to fully explain the field of finance, the book regularly juxtaposes the rules and results in California with those in other jurisdictions, preparing students to carry their knowledge and newly acquired skills to other jurisdictions as well.https://digitalcommons.law.ggu.edu/monographs/1022/thumbnail.jp
