Fr. 'Bertie' O'Connell called in to him [at the Dublin Corporation Water Works Committee] regarding water supply to his church; commenting that his change 'from the Episcopal pasture to the dignity of ...common curate' was puzzling. Stern Flow Measurements on USS Macon with V/P/Y Hot-Wire Anemometer

    No full text
This report on the description of the V-P-Y Hot-Wire Anemometer and test results of stern flow measurements on the U.S.S. Macon was conducted by the Daniel Guggenheim Airship Institute in Akron, Ohio. The accurate determination of the resistance of the airship was a major problem in aerodynamic airship design and it was impossible to guarantee a correct application of resistance coefficients determined by the extrapolation of wind tunnel tests results to the full-size airship. The most reliable and easily executed method for measuring full-scale airship resistance was the hot-wire anemometer. Numerous methods have been developed for its use as a velocity and direction recorder. It was decided to develop a special hot-wire type of anemometer for use in measuring airflow on full-size airships. The instrument described in this paper is a result of this endeavor
