Ando Kenkyusho : One of the Important Manufacturers Which Had Made Psychological Apparatuses in Japan before World War II.
No full textThere were four important manufactures which had made psychological apparatuses in Japan before World War Ⅱ. The author already investigated other three manufactures except Ando Kenkyusho and published the provided results. In the present research the author examines Ando Kenkyusho and its founder, Hitsujiro Ando, and shows newly obtained information. When H.Ando was an officer of the Japanese Navy (1905 -1924), he devoted himself to the development of an aptitude test and completed the test which was composed of 44 inspection items. He devised many kinds of apparatuses for the test and carried out the test to various kinds of workers of the Navy. He founded Ando Kenkyusho in November, 1924 when he was 40 years old and devoted himself to the improvement of the apparatuses used in the test until his early death in 1932. The author gave light on his work through the existing products of Ando Kenkyusho as well as through historical documents relating to him and his company

Who Uses Free Trade Agreements?
No full textIt is noted that utilization of ASEAN Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) is low by international standards. In order to clarify the reasons for such low utilization, this paper investigates what kinds of Japanese affiliates in ASEAN are more likely to use FTAs in their exporting, by employing unique affiliate-level data. Our findings are as follows. First, the larger the affiliate is, or the more diversified the origins of its procurements, the more likely it is to utilize an FTA scheme in its exporting. Second, affiliates that export actively to countries with higher general tariffs are more likely to use FTAs. Third, there are clear differences in FTA utilization depending affiliates, locations and sectors.

No full text化石燃料への過度な依存が地球環境面に深刻な影響を及ぼしており、国連では持続可能な開発目標であるSDGsが採択され、持続可能な社会の構築は直近の世界の課題となっている。そのため、近年、非可食性バイオマスの有効利用が着目され、研究が盛んである。なかでも、木質バイオマスは地球上最大の物質量を誇るため、未使用バイオマスをいかに利用していくかが今後の課題である。多量の物質量を誇っている木質バイオマスの主成分はセルロース、ヘミセルロースを主とした多糖類と芳香族高分子であるリグニンからなる。そのため、バイオマスは3種類の高分子のコンポジットであるといえる。その複雑さゆえ、化学構造に立脚した利用戦略はまだまだ展開の余地がある。その上で、成分間はどのようになっているのかを知ることは木材の性質の解明やバイオマスの利用において重要な知見となりうる。本総説では、木材細胞壁成分のなかでも複雑な成分であるリグニンに着目し、細胞壁中の他成分とどのような結合様式で結合しているのかに焦点をあて、近年、よく用いられているNMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance)法を用いた木材細胞壁成分の構造解析研究を紹介する。また、それに関して筆者が関わってきた研究についても紹介する

No full textLetter from the Japanese Government granting Taneo Akiyama's request to regain Japanese citizenship.The Akiyama’s owned the Florin Fish Store until it was burned down during their WWII incarceration. Their four sons went to Japan for further education as teenagers and one was conscripted into the Imperial military. After December 7, 1941 Mr. Akiyama was detained by the FBI in Crystal City, Texas. Mrs. Akiyama and her three sons were forcefully evacuated to Fresno Assembly Center, Jerome incarceration camp and then to Crystal City to join Mr. Akiyama. In December 1945 the family repatriated to Japan and were reunited in Sacramento after six years in Japan. Part of the Japanese American Archival Collection
