We shall prove three main results: (i) Every compact-open is of the shape for suitable and . (ii) For each there is a compact-open such that in (i) we cannot take . (iii) For any compact-open set there exists a polynomial f\in\Q_p[X] such that .
We shall also discuss in more detail which sets can be represented as for a polynomial in a single variable

Ci soffermeremo solo su due aspetti, che sembra abbiano influenzato in grande misura la teoria dei numeri nel ventesimo secolo: la teoria dei corpi di classe e il teorema di irriducibilità. Infine daremo brevi cenni sui problemi riguardanti la teoria dei numeri nella famosa lista dei 23 problemi di Hilbert.<br /
